just got my xl

I received my new unlocked Just Black Pixel 2XL 128GB yesterday (3-9-2018) and the production date was October 27th, 2017. Is Google shipping out old stock now? The screen has moderate blue tint but otherwise is good. Still have my Note 8 around just in case I return the Pixel within the next 15 days.

So far, it's fast and fluid but I'm missing the wireless charging, SD card (yes I put tons of movies on the card), the Samsung utilities that some people may refer to as bloat (music/video player and file manager are superior than Google equivalents) and the biometric features that the Note 8 has. Don't miss the S-Pen so may end up returning and getting a S9 Plus again.

Keep us updated on your situation! Sounds like you are invested in the Samsung OS. :)

Enter your phone's IMEI number in here to see what the build date is: LG IMEI checker - search details related to your LG smartphone by IMEI

Lua us know what the build date is - you might have gotten an older-stock phone?

I used that link to find out that it was an October 27, 2017 build date immediately after Google sent the shipping receipt (they include the IMEI in the email). So at least in my case, they shipped old stock. Just wondering if anybody received has experienced the same thing (at least for Just Black unlocked 128GB Pixel 2xls).

An older build date doesn't mean you'll have a problem or that there are any changes in actual hardware from a newer build date. There is some speculation that they tightened up QC after the first batches but for the most part there are plenty of first run phones out there without issues.

Thank you for explaining this!

Well, piffle! My Just Black Pixel 2 XL 128 GB phone has a manufacture date of September 29, 2017. It was shipped from the factory on October 3, 2017. I pre-ordered it on launch day, and received it on October 18, 2017.

My phone is great! I couldn't possibly be happier with it. I have had zero problems, and as for the blue tint, if I tilt the screen enough I can get a slightly shaded effect, it's not even blue.

If you prefer Samsung phones, by all means return your Pixel 2 XL and get a Samsung, but don't make that decision based on a manufacture date of October 27, 2017.

There are plenty of good video player apps and file managers out there. VLC, MX player for video are my two favorites. For file explorers I've always hated Samsung and LG's I've used root explorer forever, a lot of people really like ES file, solid explorer is good as well.

Good luck, I hope you find what you need!

So glad you're enjoying your 2 XL and that it is working well!

Also, I love the word "piffle."

Found out mine was manufactured on 30th October 2017 and was shipped 31st October 2017. Bit I have an excellent screen, very little blue shift, no black smear or wonky pixels. My phone has been perfect.

Sold my U11 Plus and thinking of buying a Pixel 2 XL tomorrow. I missed my Nexus 6P, but I've had a U11 for a while, very briefly a Huawei Mate Pro 10 and lastly the U11 Plus for all of 2 months. Hopefully I'll get a good XL 2 😟

Aside from checking for it right out of the box because I was curious, I haven't ever seen it again as I don't use my phones at an angle. Even my S8 has it a little.

Not sure I understand all of the mass hysteria associated with this topic. I'm more concerned that a $1,000 USD phone has touch sensitivity and scrolling issues. Rolling back to 8.0 sorted the scrolling issues, but the touch sensitivity issue was there pre 8.1.

You might not notice it because it's not any more severe than on other AMOLED devices, including the S8, Note 8, iPhone X, S9, etc, etc. Sometimes the color of the shift varies a little, but it's almost always there if you're looking for it.

just an update. I went ahead and ordered another Just Black unlocked 128gb Pixel 2xl, received the shipping notice with the IMEI, and they're sending me a phone manufactured on October 17, 2017, which is a week earlier than my current one lol. it really appears they're shipping older stock. have they shut down production of new XLs?

I received mine today. Had a software patch from September 2017, so was concerned that mine was old stock as well. Plugged in the IMEI number. Fortunately, mine is from December 17.

Was it a Just Black unlocked 128gb XL?

As luck would have it, my charging port is loose. So, while I have a phone built in December, it is still defective! They are sending me a replacement
I do like the phone, so I am hoping that the replacement is without any issues!

Exciting! As other users have said, I wouldn't worry too much about the build date being older. That doesn't necessarily mean it will have an issue. Correlation does not equal causation! :) Please keep us posted!
