just got the note 3

I get 12 hours easy with heavy use.

I get at least that and I have my screen turned up to 100% all the time with WiFi and BT turned on as well. Can't really complain about that. I used to have an S3 and an S4 (briefly) and definitely think this is the better phone, even better than the S5. The S5 may have a few better specs but the Note has far more functionality in my opinion. Of course, that's assuming that you are someone who will make good use out of the S Pen. If you plan to ignore it, then you might as well get the S5. Running KK with no problems.

My note 3 seems to be running decent on 4.4.2. I think I could do better if I factory reset and clear cashe. But I really like my note 3. If only the bootloader was unlocked lol

I agree on the reset but I'm not up for that just now. It's not to bad but it's a bit of a pain putting everything back the way it was, especially given that I now have a Galaxy Gear attached to it. Still, just like it's a good idea to rebuild your computer from time to time, the same is true of smart phones I think.

Yeah that's why I have not reset it yet because I don't want to have to reload everything back into my phone. I can live with my battery life for now I get around 4 hours of on screen time with heavy use

Day 2 test is good. 77% at 1:52 pm.. so I think I'm good to go on the update. Some people must have apps that are generally battery drainers as it is.

Yes and I also suspect that some people might be a bit unrealistic. I will NEVER get a full day (24 hrs) but I realize that having my display at 100% brightness is a sure battery hog but it is how I choose to have it. I also turn on a lot of things which some people may not but hey, this is a smart phone. Why have it if you aren't going to utilize it as much as possible? If I didn't have access to a charger during the day, I might do more to improve things but more than likely I would just get a spare battery so I can have my phone configured exactly the way I want it regardless of how battery intensive it might be.

Oh I use mine for texting, facebook, checking the bank, and games and a lot of online reading and Kindle. . So mostly it's all screen time.. not many apps that kill it.. it's 3:30 and at 66%

Excellent but I suspect it's my screen brightness setting that hurts me. I'll live with it although it really could be worse. I do alright thank you very much. :D

UPDATE: As it turned out, I needed to do a factory reset anyway because all of a sudden my Google Play video started coughing up a furball. Every time I tried to play a video (Google content), the screen would either go black or it would just go crazy on me. Nothing I tried would fix the problem. I finally ended up doing a reset and that fixed it right up. I have now noticed (I don't think I'm crazy here) that my battery seems to be running much more efficiently with more or less the same settings so perhaps it will turn out to be a good thing after all.

There is one problem in 4.4.2 (that's supposedly been fixed in 4.4.3), and that's Skype or any other app that initializes the camera. Then you watch you battery fall faster than a lead balloon - even if you don't use the camera. Probably a few other little 'gotchas' like that too. Which is why I'm sticking with 4.3.

I had the Note 3 and returned it thinking it was too big and wanted the S5 but only if a 32GB comes out. Now I did some comparisons of the Note 3 vs S5 and in images they look like David and Goliath but when you actually compared the mm or convert to inches they really are not far apart in terms of size. Plus the Note 4 will likely be even larger and that doesn't bode well for me.

Just having to weigh the options, but it will be AT&T regardless I am done with Verizon and just won't get sucked down that hole no matter how good their Edge program is compared to Next on AT&T.
