Is there anything I should do out of the box?? Is encryption as much of a slow down as it was on the Nexus 6? Should I disable it??

Also I do not root my phones or do any roms as I'm not used to doing it on Mac which is all I have now, but is there still a benefit to unlocking and rooting it ?

Thanks for any feedback.

I'm not any help for your questions but wanted to chime in that I ordered my gold N6P as well! Pretty excited about it.

Turn it on, set it up, download latest patch, then put your sim card in.

Encryption isn't slow and there really isn't a need to root.

32 or 64GB?

Just enjoy it. Unlocked your bootloader if you plan to root. But this is my first Nexus and I haven't found the need to root at all. Very smooth without any ROMs.

All you have to do is use it. It works so well it's almost hard to believe. In the past with other phones I have always found myself juggling applications and settings and tweaking all sorts of stuff to keep the phones smooth and responsive and not killing the battery.

However so far with the 6P none of that has been necessary. I leave just about everything turned on all the time (wifi, Bluetooth, location, NFC, etc...) and I have installed all kinds of apps that I would normally leave off my phones in the past because they tend to be memory hogs. Even with all that, the phone continues to run just as smooth as the day I got it, with seemingly no real hit to the battery life.

Ahhhhhh and me to this list as well. The 64 gb gold version is on its way. Coming from a note 4 I'm ready to see what all the hype is about. Looks sweet

I was wanting the white but I thought shoot why not go for gold. Something different coming from a white note 4.

I don't think smoothness is the issue when it comes to using a rom. I get features that Google can't even imagine at this point. Once you get used to having these great features it's very difficult to go back to stock. Plus it still looks 100% stock. But there's nothing wrong with staying stock either.

Awesome, OP! Welcome to the Nexus family. We're a small club, but we get a lot of tech attention.

It's honestly an excellent device stock, so I haven't done a ton to mine.

Gave in and ordered a replacement. Went with Aluminum since Gold isn't offered in 128GB. Would rather have too much and not need it than be pressed for space.

The benefits of unlocking and rooting the phone are being able to install custom ROMS (which you said you don't mess with), and installing apps that require superuser permissions. That's about it. If you don't want to mess with that, then leave it as is. You'll still get plenty of use out of it.

Ordered 32gb gold same day announced. Will get this saturday.
