K9 mail problem?

I recently switched to K9 mail in order to be able ot use the email popup notification. However, I'm not happy with it at all right now. It seems that the program is not pushing my emails upon arrival. I have to manually go into the program and say "refresh". Obviously, this defeats the whole purpose of having the email pop up. Just a side note, I receive my emails instantly with the stock email app, so as of now, I'm going to stick with that. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about this?

Have you confirmed that you have set the program for automatic polling of your account? You select your account. When you are in your inbox, select "Account Settings" and then
Folder poll check frequency."

I use K9 with IMAP and POP accounts. It retrieves mail fine.

I am not getting notifications either, whether it is in my task bar or by ring tone.. Also, when I go into the mail, it stops showing the number of unread mails on task bar. It used to work fine up until the last couple of weeks. Please help?
