Keep old UDP or switch to new UDP?

I don't understand why people are thinking there's an additional line fee.

With your plan, I wouldn't switch.

The new single line Unlimited Plan is $65 for the account access fee and $20 for the line. You save $5 if you do paperless billing and autopay with debit or checking.

Because he is on contract, there will be an additional $20 fee until the contract expires. So it will be $65 +$20 line access+$20 contract premium - $5 auto pay

Good catch. Missed that point.

So after chatting online with a Verizon rep, it sounds like if my wife's line gets changed to the current 4gb plan it changes the billing structure of the GUDP, but the thing I'm still not clear about is when each of the two lines goes 'out of contract' in fall 2018... The line access fee for my wife's line will go down from $40 to $20, but will my GUDP receive the same $20 reduction by the time its 'upgrade eligibility' time comes around?

A while ago the Data on the GUDP went from 29.99 to 49.99 and I was under the impression that that was a permanent thing... but with all this UDP stuff coming back, I'm just not sure.

Try to change your wife's data plan online. Afaik, the price increase for off contract remains in affect.verizon still wants people of the old unlimited

I've had to do the same thing. A year ago, my wife was getting by on 2GB. Then I had to bump it to 5GB. Then 7GB. Now she's on 10GB. For our account, it just doesn't make sense to stay on our old plan.

My wife's usage increased 100x since 2011. Of course she is on unlimited.

Wait, wha? Contract premium? That's only if I switch from GUDP to NEW UPD. Right?

Can you break down your current plan as I have above?

Current plan:
Line 1 UDP
Nationwide 450 Min - 39.99
Unlimited data - 49.99
18% discount

Line 2
Unlimited talk text & 1gb of data - $50

Taxes ~10-12$ total

Now, I've been told, if we move my wife to the new 4gb plan, we will have the following:

$50 account charge
$40 line access for line 1 (still old UDP)
$40 line access for line 2 (new 4gb plan)
18% discount only applied to the $50 account charge.

Taxes~$10-12 total

But one question is, next fall when both phones are "eligible for upgrade" what happens to my billing for each line? Line 2's line access charge will go from $40 to $20. Will the same thing happen for line 1? Meaning come next fall, my bill will be $40 less? And does the line access charge change next fall at all if I move to the new UDP now?

Now, see this is where I think I've been told wrong, or misunderstood. I think the $50 is the 4gb plan, and both my wife and I would share only 4gb between our two lines, which is NOT 4gb for her and GUDP for me, even though both agents claimed that GUDP wouldn't be touched. That's the only scenario that makes sense to me.

Just an FYI, the Verizon rep clarified that when you reach 22GB your speed isn't throttled. It's your access to connect to the tower that is prioritized. So your speed isn't affected at all, it's your ability to connect and get internet service that could be affected if you are pinging off a tower that is getting heavy traffic. But, he said that it would realistically only affect those in the most populated cities in America, like NYC.

Hope that helps.

Call 2 more reps, bet you get 2 more different answers

Don't know if this was asked or if I got an answer for it in another thread but has anyone got one or two of these new udp plans and put them on a subaccount to keep them separate from their grandfathered udp lines? Thanks

It will. We had to keep 1 line on Verizon (due to husbands work requirement). We switched back on Friday and he switched his plan to the unlimited. So his portion went down.

So, I'm seeing other out there saying not to switch to the new UDP if you have the old Grandfathered in UDP, which I have 3 lines of. Putting the price aside, are there any other reasons not to switch over to the new UDP? Like, are there any catches to be aware of?

No employee discount
Network Deprioritization
Tethering capped to 10gb after that it'll go down to ~869 MB (?)
Autopay for a $5 discount on bill

I switched from the grandfathered unlimited to the new plans. If you use over 22 gigs and live in a high populated area you might want to stay where your at. IMO Verizon will eventually kill the grandfathered unlimited data plans, and with the new unlimited plans out that day could come sooner then later. You could wait till that happens, but you risk different plan or pricing. Verizon in the past has been good about leaving your plan your on alone. It's a crap shoot. I saved $110 a month off right away switching, and 3 lines under contract that will bring another $60 monthly savings. For me, the 22 gigs work and the savings is great.

This. I am in a populated city but it's very spread out (land mass wise) so far I haven't really seen bad speeds. Been able to stream like I want.
