Keeper or Not

I love my 2XL. No issues with the screen. The updates have improved it somewhat and 8.1 is a lovely incremental update. It is the best phone I ever owned and so much fun. The camera is phenomenal and I love taking photos on it.

This is a very interesting thread. My friend who has the 2XL says his only complaint is the lack of headphone jack - otherwise, he's satisfied. It seems like the lack of headphone jack is going to be a trend among smartphones; but I'd love to keep it on my next phone. If not, well - there's a dongle for that. :P

there is no way I give up the pixel 2 xl it's to good of a phone to give up. the supposed flaws are just that everyone has a opinion they are entitled to it. until you truly use the phone for a while you don't know what you are missing

I have the Note 8 and have been testing out a Pixel XL 2 at work to see which one is best for our field sales team. First up, the Sceeen on the Note 8 just rocks. But that doesn't mean the Pixel XL 2 screen is terrible at all.

I am not one of those "pure Android only" people but I do like that I don't have to dance around the Samsung Apps and Bixby. Just keeps it cleaner and that works better for me.

The Pixel XL 2's camera honestly is better.

I did go use my Gear 360 camera and yeah, doesn't work with the Pixel XL 2. I could live without it perhaps and sell it to get a different brand.

As it stands, looking to stay on the Pixel XL 2 and perhaps sell my wife's Note to get her one.

Keeper here. Phone is amazing, excellent battery life, amazing camera, just all around great phone. During my day to day use, the blue shift doesn't impact my use. I can easily see myself using this phone for the next 2-3 years...or until something else new and shiny grabs my attention 😁

Based on my experience,

I'm going to keep it. Insanely good Camera and excellent battery life. My Nexus 6 is pretty much done, and I need something. After playing the display lottery, I finally got an 2XL with a display that has a hue tuned to the way I like it and no black dots in the display.

After holding and using at least 6 2XL's, 3 of which I bought and returned, I have some opinions. lol

The first 3 phones I held or purchased had blue to very blue Hue's separate from the blue shift. I didn’t return the first two phones because of that. The first two phones had little black dots on the OLED side of the glass. I'm of the opinion that when they were painting the display's glass, or whatever process they use to blackout the edges around the screen, it was splattering. It was getting onto the display portion of the glass. 3 of the 4 I ordered had very amounts of this “splatter” in the display. I’m convinced there are more out there. I’ve decided that there is this dust spot you keep trying to wipe away, but you haven’t noticed it’s not dust just yet.

The first two phones I purchased, the display I played with in the Verizon store, and my friends phone, had varying degrees of a blue hue. I feel for some reason LG or Google calibrated the display this way which didn't go over well at all when paired with the blue shift. I was amazed and almost shocked when my 3rd unit arrived, and its display was Neutral, it almost looked warm. It startled me when I turned the phone on, it was obvious from the get go. It was so different you could have convinced me that Google had switched the display over to a Samsung display (I don’t actually think they did.) The 4th Unit was also this way. I immediately switched the color profile to vivid to see what it looked like. I liked the vivid profile on the blue displays, but it was way to punchy on these last two units. This may be coincidence but the phones with the blue Hue had shipped from CA and the phones with the neutral hues shipped from IL. I didn’t have my California units available, so I compared my Illinois, I’ll call them that, to my friends California unit and the hue’s were different. Mine was nice and neutral and his was cool. I’m speculating but I think Google/LG quietly responded to the complaints of the display and the 2XL’s OLED panel are being calibrated differently now, or something. I wondered if it had something to do with different company opinion on display calibration, those companies being HTC and LG, and Google didn’t bother to standardize this between the two… HMM oh well. It’s here not there but I finally have one that I can keep. My 2XL that hailed from Illinois works and looks just the way I like.

Keeping mine the XL2. No issues at all, people rather jump to the problem instead because they read it and can't unsee it and it's not really a problem. Topping and using it is so much more fun than my iPhone X. the build quality of the X though sh!t$ on the pixel. come on Google... xL3 better be the greatest hands down. Do better R&S

I exchanged my Stormtrooper version for the Darth Vader (black) version instead. The back is grippier on the black one and I didn't like the white Pixel imprint sensor on the Stormtrooper.

Were you worried about the sensor getting dirty?

I had the Essential and got the Pixel 2 XL because with the recent Target deal of instant $250 combined with the Verizon $300 off deal, it was actually cheaper. I really liked the Essential, and think the PH-2 could be killer, but the Pixel XL2 is a better phone. I do like the Essential design and materials better.

I am keeping it.

On the blue shift: Mine has almost none. It has a little but when I had the Essential phone and the XL2 side by side sitting on the desk the contrast change on the Essential was actually much greater and the tiny bit of blue tint was easily traded off by the superior brightness and clarity of the Pixel XL 2. They were very close to the same brightness head on/

In comparison to the in store Pixel 2 demo is what dramatic. The blue shift on the demo fun was super pronounced but not too bad on mine.

Definitely seems an issue they have largely addressed. Also, the display is great I have found no need to use the cartoony vivid mode.

This is a keeper for sure. Pixel 3 would have to be amazing for me to upgrade right away.

I've been switching off and on the last few weeks with the Note 8 and Pixel 2 XL, and I think the Pixel is going on Swappa. If I wasn't using them side by side I'd probably keep the Pixel for the camera, fast finger print scanner a d speakers. But I prefer the Note 8 display, slightly bigger screen size, and just the over all feel.

I am loving the Pixel 2 XL. Only way I could like it better is if they injected some helium to make it a little lighter :)

I too am loving my Pixel 2 XL 128.
I added the Sony Wireless Noise Cancelling Headset WH-1000XM2 and with my Google Play Music subscription I'm in heaven!

I am still testing out the XL. So far I'm loving it. However, I'm thinking of returning it for the 128 model. Should I risk it?

Do you want to keep it or not? Only you can answer that.

I don't get what your asking. What would you be risking. If you need more storage then go for it.

I like the XL that I have (64gb model). Everything appears to be okay. I would like the 128 model but don't want to risk getting a dud.

They aren't that common. Many get duds with other phones but still go for them.

I think you let the toxic-ness of the internet articles get to you :P.
