[KERNEL - AOSP][HC3.1][UPDATE 6/2]Tiamat Xoom 1.4.4 "Full Throttle Baby @1.7Ghz"

Hmm, ok now I am confused. LOL I was under the impression that Tiamat did overclock to 1500. Is this not the case? When I look in the system info, it shows max as 1504. Do I need to install setcpu in order for the overclocking to work?

No setcpu just gives you more control and profiles to help save battery. Don't need to run 1.5 all the time.

IIRC, the kernel will boot up the Xoom at a safe speed (1GHz I guess) and leave it up to the user to adjust the clock speed with a tool like SetCPU.

The governor you choose is also important. For benchmarking you can use the Performance governor to lock the clock speed to max, otherwise, you should use Interactive to let it scale quickly when necessary :)

Oh, ok thanks. What are your settings/profile in setcpu? I am not sure what safe settings are for this, that will also give good quadrant scores.

Best profile is set to minimum when screen is off. Another I like to set is a lower max when the battery is lower than a set % left.

Anyone use CPU Tuner? Just to give it a try (for free) I decided to use that one. I am still playing with the profiles/triggers. But I am getting better scores now than without it! I was actually able to hit 3337! Check it out!!!

CPU Tuner looks like a good alternative to SetCPU. I personally don't use any profiles to underclock my Xoom, it seems to get along fine without intervention.

I know this isn't the Quadrant thread, but I'll just leave this here anyway ;)

 Holy cow, TDR!!!!! And you are using Tiamat 1.3.2 w/ setcpu??? That is awesome. This is definitely a great kernel. I will have to give setcpu a try. Maybe it is a little easier to set up than CPU tuner (this has soooo many options it's confusing!).

Hm, should we start a new thread on governers or is there already one? I would like to discuss what everyone's settings are and the results they get with them.

Actually I've started patching and reconfiguring the Tiamat 1.3.2 source code for my own purposes, so it isn't really a valid comparison :)

I'm not sure if there's much to be said about governors, but it is interesting to see that overclocking the Xoom seems to be a no-brainer. I haven't read any posts about people not hitting the maximum 1.504GHz. I wonder if all Tegra 2 tablets are like that.

I have installed 1.4.0 and "out of the box" linpack wont go over 42 in 5 tests and quadrant has hit 2100 out of 5 tests. wondering how they are getting 65 and 3000 out of the box.

Oooo, not good Mkiller! I might just hang on to 1.3.2 a bit longer as I am getting awesome quadrant scores! Anyone else try 1.4.0 yet?? I will have to try to find the changelog and see what's new..

Oops, think I misunderstood, as you said "out of the box". So you are saying you got those scores without running setcpu or cpu tuner, etc.?

After a couple reboots, I have yet to see a linpack score under 64 and my quadrant scores are around 3000+. All good on my end now. Very happy with the new kernel. This thing is speedy!

I am not seeing sdcard. I don't have an external folder. I am showing 1.4 in about screen and cwr sees the card. I enabled mass storage when hooked to computer and it sees the card. Astro and Rootexplorer and gallery doesn't see the card.

Any help would be appreciated. Did you create a folder "external" or did it show up after flash?

Thanks. I'm still a bit nervous. I'm going to try soon. I haven't had a chance between testing and grading papers. As soon as I get a break, I'll probably give it a go but stick nearby if I need you!:-[

I had to create /data/media/external myself and sit around while the media scanner re-indexed all my media files, but all seems to be well on my end :) Haven't had a need for mass storage mode yet, MTP does me just fine.

Out of curiosity, could someone please tell me the "BogoMIPS" score that SetCPU (in Info) or Quadrant (in System information) reports with Tiamat 1.4.0 on their Xoom?

With all the issues I am seeing posted over on xda regarding 1.4.0, now I am certain I will be sticking with 1.3.2. I really like it. It's fast, SD card works, and no reboots or problems at all.

After further testing and feedback, I am removing Mass Storage from the Tiamat Xoom Kernal. it's a bugfest. Read more xda-developers - View Single Post - [KERNEL][AOSP] Tiamat Xoom 1.4.0 "I got your Moto Update right here!" (Update: 4/24)

The post says (if you don't feel like leaving AC to read a single post),

After a short period of debate and further testing, I have decided to eliminate Mass Storage from the Tiamat Xoom Kernel. First, it seems to contribute to a more unstable experience. Second, it is not really necessary since you can plug your Xoom into almost any computer and access both internal and external storage though MTP. Third, if you were really in a bind, you could use your OTG cable and a USB stick to transfer files. At this point, I think it is fair to say that we have full SD card functionality. Therefore, I will no longer be making any kind of file structure changes or path changes in the kernels. Also, I think I found why we all were getting that stupid "Status 0 Error" when flashing in CWM. I will release another kernel shortly reverting Mass Storage and adding support for an insane amount of file systems.

On a personal note, XDA users want to be on the cutting edge of development. That means we all take the good with the bad. We try new things. And if they work, awesome. If not, then we try something else. Remember, development of the Tegra platform is just barely getting started. This is not the same as a mature .37 Evo kernel. There have been speed bumps along the way, and I assure you, there will be more. If I release a bunk kernel, just flash to the last good one. Then kindly let me know what your experience was. If i release a smoking fast kernel, let me know as well. Now that the whole sdcard thing has passed, I can now focus on speed and stability. Thank you for understanding.

BTW, custom roms are just around the corner ;)
