Re: [KERNEL][ACS]*Matr1x* [ALL VERSIONS including ICS]

I installed yesterday, and last night had a bout of my phone locking up. Had to remove battery 3 times, and finally got it booted up, and backed off from 1300 back to 1000.

I'm running with Pete's Jan 11th nightly. I guess I'll leave it at 1000/200 to see how well it works.

I would never run at a high oc for extended periods of time. Its just asking for problems like overheating, over working the processor for no real reason.. If your gaming or something processor intensive then sure bump it up until your done then return to a normal setting.

That was the weird thing. It happened when the phone was idle, and definitely not warm. And it has gotten warm with playing some games earlier, and didn't have a problem. I'll wait another day or so and make sure it is stable at this speed...

Left it off the charger all night. Now at over 18 hours with 43% battery remaining
Still rock solid after being OC'd to 1300 all day. Guess the new kernel works ;) Going to back the clock speed off to 1200 like I normally do and enjoy my phone being awesome.

14.5 is still running great. Getting about 12-13 hours with about 60%~ left before I put it on the charger.

Settings:
noop/lulzactive
100/1000
inc load 90%
pump up 4
pump down 1
screen off 5
up sample 10,000
down sample 40,000

deep idle off.

Working great...

Is there a users manual or something for this. I'd love to know what all the settings do...

Google should be your friend.

There is also a wiki page that provides information on many of these.

I've googled it several times. All I ever find are settings people are using, not an explanation of what the settings do.

Android devs do great work, but they really suck when it comes to writing documentation.

If someone has a link to a wiki or something, I'd love to see it.

Ouch.

That's pretty harsh.

I'm not a developer, but I think developers do things with phones because of a genuine desire to push the envelope of the existing programming. I'm sure their outcomes are improved phones, not improved user education.

I suggest that you spend a little more time reading on your own. I've had the same questions you have, and I found the answers through reading. I'm sure if you asked for clarification of a question (proving you had done some reading) people would be willing to help you out or "break it down" for you.

Saying that developers "suck" when it comes to education isn't going to get you very far.

Re: [KERNEL][ACS]*Matr1x* [ALL VERSIONS including ICS]

I agree with the above post and thanked him for beating me to it.

Android central is the best place I have found to learn, ask questions and follow up on those. Everyone is new when they come here, but it's how much you want to experiment and learn yourself. That is why I suggested google.

I am also a member of xda as are many here. If you made that statement, you would be run off.

Most of them are above me, so the only way I can learn is google. Then i experiment and use what I have a comfort level with.

This forum is not as technical and therefore can be more helpful, that is why many share what they know.

So I suggest google, then ask, type in search above, they work on different phones to see the pros and cons for your own usage

I think you must've read my post wrong. I didn't say anything about education.

And you guys say you are helpful, but I've asked the question twice, and gotten nothing but "google it" and "read and you'll learn".

Well, I've looked around quite a bit, and haven't found the answers. That's why I asked in the first place.

And of all the kernels and ROMs posted here, and for other phones, there's little to no directions given. I don't know if that is on purpose, or just because devs don't have the free time to put together some simple guidelines for what they have in.

If you don't want to be helpful, that's fine. There seems to be a whole "knowledge is power" thing going on here that I'm just now realizing. Clearly, I'm the one lacking the power! :p

I made this suggestion to you trying to be helpful, not contolling power.

Every phone is setup different, from stock to ICS, to various roms. Every user has different uses and needs, ie I don't game or play music, so I might be looking for a different performance level than you. Every phone then reacts different to the kernel and governor selected. The developers pick what they think works best, even these vary. But the ultimate choice is yours, select the one that drives your phone the best for your own personal results.

Therefore some of us telling you what to do might create bad results for you. I set mine slower and more conservative for prolonged battery life, the next poster is trying to maximize speed and doesn't care about battery. Listening to one might get worse results for you, then you aren't happy with setup.

For this reason, I suggested reading and learning, I don't even know what some of the new ones do. Android is open, developers do this for fun and a challenge and assume the users know possibly more than we do. So I'm not controlling power, I'm making suggestions to help you make the best decision for yourself if you are going to flash different roms and kernels.

If you ask for help, you shouldn't try to offend those who help you just because you don't like the answer.

@curtl

I will see if I can locate and put together a little guide explaining governor settings and some of the most common terms/features of kernels. I will post it when I have the information.

I will comment and say i'm not as familiar with many if the newer versions of governors which are basically bits and pieces of the goods of older governors wrapped into one package. I have usually ran on demand which always seems to work well for most kernels and devices. Honestly so much of kernels and settings are a lot of trial and error per device.

Re: [KERNEL][ACS]*Matr1x* [ALL VERSIONS including ICS]

hmm...I'm currently running v 14.0 and I've tried to flash 14.5, but it has not seemed to take, i.e. I don't see Lulzactivev2 governor as an option in SetCPU. Any ideas on why this flash isn't taking on my phone?

I didn't see this governor listed as a supported governor on the SetCpu website. I use NSTOOLS, and it required an update before I had full customization functionality for it.

Re: [KERNEL][ACS]*Matr1x* [ALL VERSIONS including ICS]

ah...maybe that's it. My kernel version says:
3.0.14-ck1-bfs-gcaa7e4c-dirty
shankar@Matr1x#38

Is this still v14 or v14.5? I'm not exactly familiar with the naming schemes above
