Question keyboard malfunction/not going back to alphabet screen after typing a symbol.

My note8 is not flipping back to the keyboard with the letters after typing a symbol one time.I'm pretty sure it always did.

How do I fix this?

Which keyboard are you using? I see that behavior in Gboard on my Pixel 7 Pro. I too seem tor recall that it would revert back to the letters after typing a symbol. I don't see a way to change this, so you'd have to send feedback to dev via the keyboard app's settings, and try out some 3rd party keyboards if this is really important to you.

I'm using the Samsung default keyboard. My friend who gave me the phone just told me that it never flopped back on its own. i've been using it four years and that's not what i recall. Could a setting have come unset? too odd.

In the Samsung keyboard try resetting it in its settings

Which email app and keyboard app are you using? On my Pixel 7 Pro, while composing an email using the Gmail app and Gboard, I can bring up the formatting options by long-pressing any part of the Compose field and then tapping Format. The options then show up at the bottom of the screen.

I'm using the Samsung default keyboard and I use AOL ( I know) email. so do i press in the email field as I'm writing?

That's what I do, but since you're using a pretty old device, it's possible those options aren't available. I don't have experience with Samsung devices of that era. Let me see if @mustang7757 or @Laura Knotek know anything about this.

Are you using the AOL app or another email app? I've never used AOL on any phone, and I haven't used AOL on a computer for over 25 years, so I don't have any suggestions if your issue is related to AOL rather than the Samsung keyboard.
