If I do a manual check for update, I'm still told I'm up-to-date at 4.3.

That's because you haven't gotten the update yet

Let me know when the bugs are dead and I will possibly think about installing. Until then I will continue to love my N7 as is.
Right. But shouldn't checking for updates manually tell me there is an update available?

Will this be automatically updated on to my N7 2013 or do I have to download it and install it myself?
And what's the point of it, just fancy new colors, or will it actually something, improve the sometimes balky touchscreen, and the only occasionally functioning GPS?
Nexus 7 (2012, 2013) and Nexus 10 Android 4.4 KitKat updates roll out starting today, Nexus 4 and cellular Nexus 7 “soon”
If you read this, google hinted that the tablets wouldn't get the transparent bars as seen in the picture in this article.

Hi can you explain what is meant by this? I've seen this before and they always show the same picture. Are they talking about the google search bar at the top? because on my 2013 nexus 7 running 4.3, that bar is most certainly transparent. I can't tell from that picture what else they could posibly be talking about.
thanks!
