KitKat is Here for the Verizon Galaxy S3

So far, so good. Both mine and my wife's phone took the update without having to reset.
Fingers are crossed.

No problems here. I just don't like the new locations that replaced the gps toggle. Now need to go into settings to switch between network location and gps. Turning off location doesn't allow apps to get a fix on the your location, so that's not a solution. I also don't like using gps, unless I'm using navigation. Oh well.

You can edit the pull down menu to put Location in the bar.

No factory reset required. That's just not true what ColbyJvonBrown said.

A factory reset may not required for KitKat to run on the GS3 on the Verizon Wireless network but in my honest opinion it's not a bad idea to do so just to get any kinks out that may pop up on the phone after upgrading the OS. I learned this lesson on the 4.3 OS update back in December. I had updated it and not run the factory reset. There were all sorts of little bugs I was finding that weren't there before. After I ran the factory reset, the phone ran just like a champ.

I did a factory reset after taking the KitKat update because the battery life just wasn't quite what I thought it should have been on my way to my aunt's visitation yesterday. It seemed to drain faster than normal. (May have just been me on this.) When I got home from the visitation, I performed a factory reset on the phone and now the battery life is just as good if not better than before.

Just my two cents here. Hope it helps someone out.

True. But it appears you cannot turn GPS itself on and off anymore, its tied to Location. Not liking that, but it looks like it's not active unless an app is going that uses/needs it. Maps for instance.

So we can keep on the location with GPS enabled and you're telling me that when an app needs it ie maps it will use it, But it won't use it unless an app you are going to use needs it?

Why would they design this to have to do a factory reset? Doesn't make sense. I have work programs on my phone such as Touchdown for company emails and Remote Access software so I can't just do a reset just because Verizon pushes out an update. If I do that I have to get with my IT people for new access codes to reinstall these apps. The announcement doesn't say anything about having to do a reset. Guess I will be postponing this update then.

Ok, I couldn't resist and did the update. All works perfectly, including WiFi and all my work applications. Factory Reset is NOT required. Even my FoxFi with unlimited data works the same as before without a lockscreen PIN. I read elsewhere that FoxFi would not work with KitKat without adding a PIN, but mine still works great. Possibly if you already have the application working when you update you don't need the PIN. Another reason not to do a reset.

Anyone experiencing issues with WIFI not turning on? I have a buddy with an SGS3 on Verizon (I have ATT) he said his WIFI will not turn on. when trying to turn on it seems to lock up the phone, then wifi turns off again.

Ok. I have been reading about Google and it's handling of SD card files after KitKat was released and I have heard a ton of people complain that the way it handles the info on SD cards can be bothersome (i.e. missing files, broken 3rd party apps). And I am wondering, have any of you experienced any issues with your SD card storage or your ability to write/move files from the internal storage to the External storage (SD card) without any issues?
Here's a link to a question I raised on the subject:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-s-iii/390150-what-does-kitkat-do-your-sd-card.html

And here is another link with an explanation of the issues with KitKat's SD card issues (although this is for the GS4, it may still be something related to this since it is apparently a KitKat issue):
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...kitkat-issue-cant-write-external-sd-card.html

If no one is having these issues, and it's seems that everyone that has downloaded KK on their GS3s in this thread haven't experienced this, I may download the update. But I would love more input from you guys that have the update and have used it. Just let me know in this thread and hopefully it won't happen to crop up in our phones. Have at it!

The s3 has gotten some serious update love, especially being on verizon. For a phone that has been out for 2 years, this is almost unheard of in terms of updates and not being a nexus. This will be a solid update to keep users happy the remainder of their contracts.

You can actually hold the location toggle to jump directly into the location settings.

Not really a fan of the all white icons in notification bar now. I haven't had any wifi issues since the update as some are speculating calls for a reset of phone to clear up.

Have noticed some SMS issues since update, a couple of messages just sort of hung there saying they were sending. One came back that it didn't go but as I was about to resend it, the recipient replied to the message so I know he got it. Has been a few since then to various people that seemed to take longer than normal to send (averaging about 20-30 seconds) before I get the timestamp indicating to me it was sent. This has only been a couple messages, several hundred other messages have been fine, I just have not had texting issues with this phone like this before.

Also, could just be the phone/app but I have HORRIBLE lag with SwiftKey. I think it has been getting worse and could just be in my head that it got even worse after update this morning. I was trying to tap suggestions while typing and the lag was so bad that a simple tap of a suggestion would result in it thinking I had pressed it several times and was asking me if I wanted to not suggest XX word again. Typing a simple sentence took minutes with flow and touch typing.

You were supposed to do a factory reset after installation!!

I mentioned this in the other KitKat thread, and was told that I was "wrong", but it happened to me as well. Had to do a Factory Reset, just as I said yesterday.

Thank you for the suggestion everyone. I figured my friend would need to do a Factory Reset, was hoping there was a quick fix.

So far I'm noticing that the phone seems faster, graphics look better and of course there is emoji.

I'm having a terrible problem since the update I'm hoping not to have to factory reset.
My phone will not keep a data signal.
It will grab a 4G signal and then lose it, grab it and lose it and so on.
I've wiped the cache more than once.
I'm not rooted.
Any suggestions?

Apparently Kitkat doesn’t play nice with Onovo Extend.
