KitKat is Here for the Verizon Galaxy S3

Ooo. Gonna keep an eye on that one as well, I've got Extend (and Count) on right now. Will update if there appears to be an issue!

I've also noticed now that it no longer charges with a wall charger and only charges in my computer. Which sucks because my computer is not always with me.

Not sure why, but mine charges fine for all sources, wall, computer, car, and no X. I only use the stock cable that came with my phone.

A lot of people seem to be having battery issues, and many people are suggesting factory restores, which aren't a bad idea, but you may want to try simply clearing the cache first. Often helps that sort of thing.

Ok, so I ran into a problem that a lot of Verizon s3 users who installed 4.4.2 have run into. Whenever I try to plug my phone into a wall adapter I always get a red X on the battery icon. Has anyone got this fixed yet?

Other than that 4.4.2 is running pretty smoothly for my s3. Battery life is SO much better on here than 4.3

I have the same issues. Doesn't matter what cable or charger I use the red X shows up.

Okay, so one day with 4.4.2. My phone charges plugged into the wall and into my car. Not tried anything else. But I do have Onovo and while earlier today it was dropping my 4G (basically all data) over and over. I rebooted and cleared the cache, and - interestingly - that solved the problem so far. I do wish ART was available but even without it the phone seems a little faster.

Is anyone else getting this security update for android system after the 4.4 update? It pops up in the pull down every now and then.

I got that too. I'm not sure what it really is (don't feel like reading it lol), so I just decline it.

I believe it is for Anti-Malware. It's Samsungs Antivirus. I got it on my note 2 and looked it up and that is what I found out plus my wife has a gs3 and received that also.

Has anyone had trouble with their email synching after the update? It seems like my email is trying to sync but nothing is happening except for draining all the life out of my battery.

Does anyone know what the icon just to the left of my wifi icon is for? I never saw it before until the update pushed through to my phone yesterday. It kind of looks like a capital letter "N" or up-and-down zig-zag type logo or symbol.

When I first turn on my screen from being dark and get the lock-screen, it is not there.
After I input my info to unlock the phone and arrive at the unlocked main screen, it is there constantly.
If I drag down the notification bar there is nothing there that I can see lending any info as to what it might be for.
Anyone else have this happen since the update?

Thanks!

Its the icon for NFC... Have you enabled it recently?

Not intentionally, no I didn't. I just shut it off and the icon is no longer showing. Wonder if it just got kicked on in the process of updating for some reason.
Shortly after the update I was using google maps and navigation on the phone for turn by turn directions so I was turning google settings and location services on and off throughout the day. I don't think that would be related to NFC at all though. Plus, I think I saw the icon even prior to doing this. Oh well, at least now I know.

Thanks for the quick response.

I had multiple issues on my Verizon GS3 when Jelly Bean updated, including wifi issues, battery life issues, sound setting issues. Did anyone else here have similar issues and have you done the Kitkat upgrade? Are any of the Jelly Bean issues corrected? Are any worsened?

I have horrible reception issues since the update. Two bars if I'm lucky.. No 3G whatsoever.. Disappointed and pissed!!!

I can't send text messages or receive them since I installed the update. Any suggestions? I don't know how to do a factory reset either. What will it do to all the stuff I have on my phone? Sorry, I'm kind of inexperienced when it comes to all of this.

I personally have not had this issue with receiving or sending text messages since I updated to KitKat.

Here are the directions to do a factory reset on your phone.
1. Go to the apps and select the Settings icon.
2. If your settings are in the tabbed view, it's the last option in the Accounts tab.
3. If your settings are in the list view, it's the option right before Accounts in the list.
4. Once you select that, select Factory Data Reset on that page.
5. Follow the directions that the phone givea you during the reset. Your phone will reboot during this process.

Now, when you do this reset, it will return your phone to the factory default settings and you will need to reinstall any programs that were on the phone before.

Hope that this helps you out.
