Ladiez and Gentlemen : WE HAVE ROOT!

Question fellas, once we've rooted our phone, does that mean we've also made it vulnerable somehow. Say for instance we install the beta version of froyo, can our phones be possibly ruined if faulty? What are the pros and cons of being able to root? Sorry if I sound like such a noob

once you root it will technically void the warranty but you can always go back to the stock ROM if you have a problem. The other option is to get the insurance and tell them you lost the phone if you brick your Incredible by over-clocking the CPU too much or anything like that...

The thing I can't wait for is free WIFI tethering!!!

oh so this means android 2.2 is coming sooner than later?

No. It means that advanced users and those willing to accept some risk can change things in the OS that cannot be changed through settings. The average user who is using the device for phone calls, email, texting etc. can usually find apps that will provide the utility they want. Advanced users with technical understanding can do all kinds of things that will change the inherent characteristics of the phone and push it towards its limits with access to the ROOT. There are risks. Phones can be bricked, warranties voided with some activities.

after reading thru the thread over on android forums there seems to be some questions on how real this is. supposedly we will see within a couple days though it its real or not

Jake has a solid track record among the Moto Droid community so I'm hoping this is legit! Can't wait to see the instructions:)

Great info guys and just what I thought it would, but will root be achieved through the comp or done through the phone?

Looking like it isn't real folks. This is a bad bad day in the Android community. People going to these lengths. It really has made a lot of people look really bad and a lot have lost credibility over this. Not looking good. Sad,very sad.

yeah pretty much someone has been quit the clown. i was just reading that jake is so disgusted with this that he has given up on android ( dont know if it's true or not ) but that's what has been said on XDA.

Pdanet gives you free tethering now, you don't need root for that. The other stuff is just not ethical at all, doing things like that is what causes phone insurance prices to end up being higher and higher. I remember when insurance only cost $1.99 a month......grr.

I understand it gets trying at times when people bash on you and bash on you and bash on you. But honestly quitting development on a system you enjoy working with because of it is stupid. The idiots raging on the devs are the loud mouthed minority of the community. I appreciate what each and every dev does for this community, but over on XDA I'm part of the silent majority because I don't have an account or post there.

But if he posts he has root and then says he quit because of the bashing it would really make him look like he lied. I hope he didn't. Come on root! Come on people!

im ready for a root as soon as i get my incredible rooted and can make it a hot spot iPad HERE I COMMMMMEEEEEEE

Well I was so happy when I read the news today.....but knowing now this is fake doesn't hurt my feelings too bad, I just resign back to the waiting room. Blah, freakin idiots.

It is really unbelievable what's going on at xda (which I am a proud member of). I just cannot relate to these..... jackals that get so rabidly angry when they don't get what they want. Blows me away. It's like they feel ENTITLED to a developer's intellectual property simply because they want it. Patience and respect has gone out the window with these people.

They are called the 'Entitled Generation' for this precise reason. Everyone owes them everything and they are bitter when they don't get it because they are entitled to everything.

I'm amazed by some of the comments over on xda and the "Entitled Gen" explains a lot of it. my oldest son is starting to sound like that (give me everything and don't ask for anything in return) and its driving me and my wife crazy.
