Lag in the Phone App when typing in contact names?

I'm not sure when it started but I'm getting a horrible lag when typing in a name in my phone app. When I type in the name it sits there for up to 5 seconds blank and then finally brings up matches. Is anyone else experiencing that?

I'm unrooted (thanks for the upgrade Verizon).
I don't do much that is special. I get my contacts via gmail contacts.

Suggestions? Should I do a factory reset and re-install?

Have you tried clearing the cache/data of dialer? You can do this by going to settings> apps> all apps> dialer> clear data.
