My N7 is unlocked and rooted both otherwise stock rom and stuff. The last update downloads but won't install. I get the Android dude with a red triangle. When I reboot it loads up and runs fine but the update didn't install. Any ideas? I have never had issue installing updates including 4.3 but this last little update just won't install.

It won't take the OTA because you're rooted. Either find a 4.3 based rom or unroot, flash and reroot.

I was rooted when I upgraded from 4.2 to 4.3. I also had it rooted when I went from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 with no problems.

Hi, xzb6np...

The reason why you never had problems before, is because the way root works under Jellybean 4.3 has changed since root under Jellybean 4.2.x. The problem, essentially, revolves around a file called /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and it's use in launching the daemonsu that provides root, and it's 'permissions'.

Read my post here for an explanation, and a work-around.

There are several different ways of fixing this problem, but the easiest, as Scott Kenyon suggests, is unroot, take the OTA (or flash it, if you have the .zip), and re-root again afterwards.

I have the exact same issue and so does my friend. I un-rooted mine and returned to stock and the update still fails along with his; we have 2012 versions. We have suffered through this with the previous updates since 4.2, and as stated many times in this thread; returning to stock always works, but not so for us this time. Sigh!

Ok I fixed it. Loaded up Wugs Nexus 7 toolkit. In the advanced section I did a restore stock kernal and rom. Then the ota update worked fine. Then I rerooted with the toolkit. Everything is great and I didn't lose anything.
