Last software update broke pauses in the dialer and contacts

I routinely have to dial into conference calls. This means I need to dial a number, wait until the call connects, wait for the voice prompts to start then dial a conference number to get connected.

And I routinely need to call people at work, whose office has a PBX. You know the drill: call the main number, wait for the voice prompts, dial their extension.

The stock "trick" for this is to put in the phone number, multiple commas, then the conference number. Or the main number, a few commas, then the extension. I've been using that trick for at least the last 3 phones.

Another trick is to put in a "w" or a semicolon; this will give you a pop-up so you can tell it when to dial the rest of the sequence.

With the latest software update to my Verizon LG G3, this is broken. I'm talking about Android version 6.0, Software version VS98548A. Yes, I'm on Verizon :(

With a contact that's already created, it still works. I can dial into conference calls using contacts setup before the software updated, call people at their extensions, and it works.

If I create/edit a contact and try to do that, it lets me input multiple commas but when I display the number (not editing), it only shows 1 comma, regardless of how many I entered. And when I actually dial it, it only pauses for 2 seconds (1 comma) and then it dials the next sequence; that's usually not long enough for the call to connect and for the other system to be ready to receive the extension, conference number, etc.

The input for the contacts no longer gives me semicolon, "w" or anything else as options. And there's no mechanism to change to a qwerty keyboard where I can access those.

Anybody know a work-around on this?

All I can figure is this "update" was made by people who never have to actually use their phone for business.

Edit: when editing a previously-created contact, "W" shows up as an option for input. That puts a semi-colon into the input stream. And "P" shows up as an option for input, putting a comma into the input stream. But the actual dialing will only send a single comma, regardless of how many you put into the input.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you entering the new contacts directly onto the phone? Try entering it as a Google Contact on your computer browser first, then let it sync with your phone, and see if the multiple commas carry through that way.
