Later today I'm back from the rotten Apple.

Just couldn't stand apple anymore. All of the bugs and features apple leaves to rot. It's been about a year and a half since my last android. I've basically just worked around all the apple issues, compromises and downfalls but I've certainly never thrived with the phone. Almost every time I pick it up something isn't working. I realize Android has its issues too but I'm more an android person for sure. I've had 90% android phones and watches (many many samsung, a few google , a few motorola, and oneplus) and two short stints with apple. Apple is the worst. Has anyone here tried their implementation of home screen customization? My god, they should be sued for that worthless atrocity. Along with their AI. I don't care much about AI, but since all their updates are all about AI, there is just nothing left. Their AI is a literal joke.

Anyway, on the way home from work today I stop to pick up my 512GB blue s25+ and green watch 7. Excited but daunted by the transition and set up. I'm a phone geek though so I change phones a few times a year. THIS time though, I will stick with these for a loooong time.......I hope. I try anyway. lol

So how's it going? Been a day.

Thanks!

It has been a day. And the day is ongoing. I can't believe how much you need to relearn after a year and a half away. I mean, I have things set up for the most part. Getting Nova the way I like it. It'll be a few days before I get logged in to everything and all the glitches worked out. Right now trying to figure out why I'm not getting gmail notifications even though it seems to be enabled everywhere. Fun times!

Just remember that, unfortunately, Nova is pretty much dead now :( (last update to the BETA was in June of last year, and everyone in the team but the main creator got laid off, so...) OneUI 7 with some of the GoodLock modules can get you some of the stuff that Nova has, but yeah, not the same. Nova is also known to be a little buggy on OneUI 7, so thread with care if you choose to continue using it.

Thanks!

Oh, and the GMail notification bug seems to be a very common one. Just log out of your Google Account and re-login. Not sure why, but A LOT of users have this issue when setting up a new phone (especially if you use Smart Switch or Android's switching tools).

Thanks for the advice and help!!! I did get gmail working simply by toggling allow notifications off and back on. I'll see if it keeps working. I will follow your advice as it seems that is exactly what has happened. I did use smart switch from my iphone.

Yeah I have nova up and running ok. Sucks because it is one of the few apps I saw the value in purchasing. But I notice now that I've downloaded the Prime app, it says I am on Prime, but none of the prime features are available. SO, no gestures and therefore no double tap to lock etc.

Do you have any suggestions for a current competent replacement that is a one time purchase/free for me to check out? Or better off with one ui and good lock?

I'm not sure that Nova is going away. I just wouldn't expect any updates soon (if at all) since the original dev is the only one working on it and we don't even know if he's actually getting to work on it. To the best of my knowledge, there's been no announcement regarding the abandonment of Nova Launcher. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

I was a long time user of Nova, but I'm using OneUI with Good Lock now. I'm able to use icon packs, which I really like.

Thabks again for the replies! Right now my biggest issue, and reason I may return this phone is all of the worthless notifications I'm getting constantly. And each one requires a deep dive and google searches to figure out how to turn them off. Most are from apps that are already turned off or have no option under notifications.

Just as I think I've got things all sorted and just want to browse my phone I literally got 3 unwanted system notifications all within 5 mins, none of which i could find any way to turn off. One that looked exactly like the Google photos, one was so.ethi g from digital we'll being and something else. None appear in the most recent notifications. Fucking frustrated enough that I may be back to my trusty apple soon just because of this spamming notification riddled nightmare! They make it impossible to turn them off too. Not happy with Android right now.

Install Good Lock and the 'Nice catch' plugin. That will have an expanded history of notifications and things that are turning system items on/off (like WiFi or BT). And since this phone is AI-centric, you may be getting those because of that. Check what you want on your Health and AI Brief settings.

If it's an app notification, there shouldn't be any 'deep dive' needed: just tap and hold the notification and it'll show the notification's settings option (little bell with a gear icon). That takes you directly to the settings of the app generating it (it even auto-highlights which section you have to tap on to see it). However, if you have any WEB notifications enabled, you may be getting those from sites, not apps.
