LBS Test Mode/GPS Fix (post-OTA patch)

So I applied the fix that AT&T pushed today. Went on in a snap and no trouble. After reading about the "addressing of GPS issues" I decided to go for a walk and test it out.

Clear skys.
Full battery.
Good reception bars.
1 sattelite fixed.

I tried a number of programs to make sure that wasn't the issue but none of them were able to get a fix on more than one.

Next thought was to go into LBS Test mode and see if things worked in there. So I brought up SGS Tools and hit the link for the test mode. I got the phone dialer and a blank space above it. Tried entering the code manually. Same result. Tried just bringing up a dialer and entering the code. Same result.

So it would appear that not only did this "fix" not fix the GPS, but it looks like AT&T are also done with people going in and mucking about with system settings.

Any one else able to get to LBS after this update? Any other GPS Fails?

Suggestion (can't test) If you use launcher pro, add a shortcut to the desktop, link it to an activity, and select the lbstest tool.

AoN

I use launcher pro but must not be savvy enough to figure out the shortcut link. When I try to select the tool, I get a prompt for execuatable command. I tried entering the *#*#1472365#*#* code but it didn't work.

I find it interesting that some phones are seeing success with this while others aren't. Different release batch? Better geographic location?

Shortcuts > Activities > LbsTestMode > com.sec.android.app.lbstestmode.LbsTestMode

I just tried this and I can add a link to LBSTestMode
but I haven't installed the update so I don't know if it's still there
after the update

If you dont have launcherpro download and install it form the market
press and hold on any screen (to add)
select shortcust.. activity
select LBSTestMode from the list (if it's still there after the update)
a link will appear on your desktop

You can also use the market app anycut to make a shortcut to the LBS test mode apk without needing to use Launcher Pro..

Just a heads up.. :)

Figured it out. Thanks Joey Bear. I was trying to launch it from within the SGS Tools, which wasn't working. Didn't realize you can get right to it with launcher pro. Excellent tip!

The GPS is also resolved. I updated my wifes Galaxy and hers picked up 8 sattelites in seconds. I figured it must have been the various "fixes" I had tried in the last few weeks to get it going. Some searching around on xda yielded the default settings for LBS Test Mode and after a reboot it was up and running. Yay!

For anyone who might be in the same scenario:

Application Settings:

Session Type: Tracking
Test Mode: S/W Test
Operation Mode: Standalone
Start Mode: Hot Start
GPS Plus: On
Dynamic Accuracy: On
Accuracy: 50
Use Skyhook: Off
Use PC Tool: Off

SUPL/CP Settings:

Server FQDN Type: Custom Config
Server: supl.google.com
Server Port: 7276
Supl Secure Socket: Off
AGPS Mode: SUPL

YMMV

Thanks everyone.

Thank you to JoeyBear and The Bronze.

I did that, went outside and within 2 minutes, I picked up 7 satellites got a lock that held. That's pretty impressive since the phone before couldn't get a lock and would only see two satellites.

Awesome! I did this on mine and it worked, 8 satellites, quick lock.... until I moved and it lost them, but still far, far superior to 1 or 2 satellites and no lock.

Thank you to JoeyBear and The Bronze!

Ironic that I have to rely on my fellow users to Fix a "fix". My GPS appears to be working after the "tweaks" listed above. (The GPS originally worked worse after the update)

Before I did this on my phone i had 0 in view, and 0 in use, anywhere i went.
Now that i have done this, i have 7 in view, and 4 in use, Indoors.

I hope this holds up. I was about to pack this back up and head to the ATT store.

I've used those settings but I got better results with these
Another option to try if you're interested

Operation mode : ms based
Accuracy: 100
Skyhook: on

FQDN Type : Auto

Thanks I had nothing now it is accurate at least to a few yards. I'm also hoping it holds.

CRAP! I was getting a decent lock after the update, but thought I would do this (above) and now nothing. I don't remember what settings I had before as I had tried some combinations.

holy crap! this finally worked!!!! i have a torch that my rep sent me, it will probably be going back! :D

I also tried this. Now it does seem to lock faster, but it seems to lose lock a lot too...

i've come to realize that the gps on this captivate is nothing but a joke. i do get "locks" now. when i am sitting still. if i am driving in the car it seems like it skips or is lagging. i love my captivate other than the fact that this gps is trash.

I just backed out the old fixes, rebooted and immediately things work

Thanks so much! Did the update a few days ago, no help. Read this post.
Downloaded "lbstestmode" for free from the market, and made the changes back to stock as suggested below. Compass still seems off some, but I got immediate lock on satellites.
