I know this is a very basic question and I feel embarrassed asking it, but the cwm_froyo.tar file is a .tar file. When I download it, do I need to extract it or what? I can't get it to show up like the standard DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 file in Odin when I choose pda. It's not in the .md5 format like everything else I've flashed - could someone help out? Sorry for such a dumb question again.

It's not a stupid question, but are you sure you're looking for it in the folder you downloaded it to? I would download it to your desktop to make it easier. And no, you do not extract it.

For the rest of you who posted problems above, let me know if the new post helps, and if it doesn't, please quote your post above and post it again.

And yes Nandroid backups are stores in the Clockworld folder on your SD card. These are FULL backups of your entire phone, which can save your bacon later.

He needs to flash cwm_froyo,,,not DJ05 DL09 version

Sorry download and install 7zip then try again

winzip and winrar do not recognize .tar format so it doesnt show up in odin,,,7zip does

Followed to the letter....Works Great....You are amazing with the details....I can hang on to my Fascinate now....I'm ready for an upgrade but can make it until the dual cores come out...Thanks a million

Corey, I flashed froyo with the old red, is it really that important to flash it with the new one, if so ill stock up and then flash again, if not I would rather just stay how I am. Suggestions?

*update*
big dummy here did not put update.zip on the sd card.....
put sd card in another phone and transfered it now.

Got to here
19.) Select apply "sdcard:update.zip"

and it is stuck on the exclamation point in a triangle. :'(

Sorry to ask. I keep reading but I'm still confused.
I did the "DL09" a few weeks ago thru Odin that Droidxcon posted here. http://forum.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/53549-how-flash-full-package-dl09-stock-di01-via-odin.html
I'm rooted to.
Whats the way for me to go DL30? Do I use odin again or which step should I start at?

If, after completing the upgrade, you are in a force close loop:

1) Boot into recovery and do a clear cache to fix FC issues. --> Thanks to the member with the cool username:killahamsammich.
2) If that doesn't work try a Wipe Data/Factory Reset in recovery mode.
3) Still not working: Try using ODIN to flash a fresh DL09.tar.md5 and then go through all the steps in the first post again. And make sure you do not have Voodoo installed!

About ClockworkRed:

  • The original version of my procedure (written on 2/1) installed/used an outdated ClockworkMod Red during the upgrade to Froyo process. I updated the procedure on the evening of 2/4 to reflect the newer version.
  • For a technical explanation of why the original red is bad, please read this and this. My own observation is that the old one also prevented me from being able to do Nandroid Backups.
  • If you have the outdated ClockworkMod Red, and would like the new one, this is how to upgrade:

    1. Download cwm_froyo.tar to your desktop.
    2. Download update.zip and move it to your SD card.
    3. Use ODIN to flash cwm_froyo.tar.
    4. You should now be able to boot into the new ClockworkMod Red.
  • Use the following steps to boot into ClockWorkMod Red moving forward (start with phone powered off):

  1. Press & hold the volume up and down buttons at the same time. Do not let go. Now press and hold the power button. You will see the Samsung logo display, disappear, and then reappear. Now let go of all buttons.
  2. You will now see a blue menu. Use the volume buttons to select & the home button as an enter button in this screen.
  3. Select apply "sdcard:update.zip"
  4. You should now boot into ClockworkRed. From here you can do things like flash zips on your SD card, and do full system backups using Nandroid. Use the volume buttons to select & the power button as an enter button in CWR Red screen.

  • You will also notice the following errors when booting into the new ClockworkMod Red:

E:Missing bitmap progress_empty (code -1)
E:Missing bitmap progress_fill (code -1)
CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v2.5.1.x

It's my understanding they are related to this ClockworkMod not being compatible with Voodoo, and are nothing to be concerned over.

If my phone is currently working, should I update to this? I didn't see in Cory's post what the benefits would be. Also, would this make me have to reinstall all apps and get the settings back to how I want them?

Based on what jt and adrynalyne said over at xda, I'd go ahead and update it. The only thing you're doing is changing the recovery so your apps, settings, etc should be fine.

Yeah I read it wrong..7zip should fix the problem..sorry
Maybe I read his question wrong, but I think his point was that ODIN is not able to find the cwm_froyo file like his prior experience when it was able to find the DJ05/DL09 file.

You can do the ClockworkMod without loss of apps or settings.

Assuming you used my procedure before last night, you don't have to unless you want the latest ClockworkMod. See this post for easy steps on how to update. No loss of settings or apps.
