Reflash cwm_froyo with odin..this time don't let the phone boot regular go directly to recovery after flashing

I will try it again, but I believe that's what I did last time. After flashing in Odin, the phone powered down. From there, I pressed and held vol-up, vol-down, and power to get into CWM.

I've been able to reboot and wipe cash from CWM with no problem, it's just that update that's hanging.

But, let me try flashing Odin again...

Are you leaving the battery out wwhile flashing

Yessir. Reflashing didn't work, so I'm going to try on a different PC.

1) Re download the update.zip in step 2.
2) Remove all traces of update.zip off of your SD card
3) Copy/move the update.zip you downloaded in step 2 to your SD.
4) Power down phone
5) Go to post 1, and start at step 15 again.

If it still doesn't work go back to step 4. Maybe cwm_froyo didn't actually get flashed correctly. Check for errors in the left window as it goes through the process.

Nope. Tried and still not working. I:
1.) Re-downloaded update.zip, cwm_froyo, and attach.zip
2.) Loaded update and DL-30 leak to a third SD card (totally new to the process)
3.) Reflashed cwm_froyo from an entirely different computer. No errors
4.) Put battery back in, got into system recovery.
5.) Pressed apply sdcard: update.zip
6.) Got the same message as before:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

So, I tried flashing an older file, CWMRecovery_DJ05_DJ09_RED.tar.md5. That also flashed with no problem, but it hung from the red menu.

So, I flashed back to cwm_froyo. Still no luck.

I saved DL30_super_clean_1.0 to my computer. Can I save it to my sd card and download using rom manager, or do I need to go back to before I rooted and start from there? Either way I don't know how to start.

Can I ask why you are trying to go back to stock DI01 in order to get to DL30? You actually need to be on DJ05, DL09, or EA28 in order for it to work properly

When you put your battery back in did you also unplug the USB cable from the phone?

Yes.

I think something is going wrong with the SD cards, either on my phone or on the computer. I can't get my desktop to even read them now.

The phone is able to read the cards, but it's not running quite right. When the phone first boots, it scans the card, but if I go into the file manager, it can't see a card.

Then, a minute or two later, it sees the card and all is well. This is happening with two different cards, so I have a feeling it's consistent.

I'm new here I just flashed to DL30 coming from DL09 with no problems I heard some suggest to flash to stock DI01 > DJ05 > DL30, am I okay for now? As far as the battery issue everyones been talking about I'm in the process of charging to full, reboot to recovery and advanced > wipe battery stats and clear dalvik cache, reboot > full discharge and recharge cycle hope this works.

First. If your using a laptop, you can get a bunch of sd card, usb problems.
Second. Since you can flash via odin and do everything right but cant get update.zip to install, why dont u just flash the old red, and then just install dl30.zip instead of flashing then updating to red. The old red has mini problems but still works if all else fails.

Some posts I've seen indicated troubles with 5 & 9, and I'm noob. But thanks for reply. Afraid I'm screwed, still have found no way to repair. Wondering if I can mount card, put an update.zip on it to run from recovery mode?

What color was your screen right here?

I said that once, but starting out with DJ05 is sufficient.

Can you format it via settings > privacy?

Also, I'm assuming you guys know this, but do not ever just pull the card out unless it is totally powered off, or you have unmounted it if you are booted up. This will eventually turn into a one way ticket to a broken card. I've learned that lesson the hard way. On top of that, when you power down the Fascinate, you should wait at least 30 seconds before you do a battery pull. The phone looks like it's powered off initially, but if you look at the screen at an angle, you will realize it isn't.

My screen was blue when it first came up, I think. After I tried to apply the update, it hung with a triangle with an exclamation point in the center. I hit the menu key to back out, and the dialogue saying it had failed was red.

I'm going to try to format my backup card after I finish restoring my backup from my main SD card. I'll post back about how it works.

(BTW, I didn't know either the power off or unmount tricks. Back in my old WinMob phones, you could hotswap SD cards without any problem.)

Used "Cory's" method (Mac OS X Terminal) to root but trying to get back to stock factory DI01 to move to DL30. No luck now due to USB won't show phone in download mode.

Unplug your phone, and uninstall/reinstall the Samsung drivers in my post. Before you reinstall, you might want to look in your PC's device manager for remnants of Samsung drivers.

Tried all sorts of crap in Mac and Windows. Odin can't see phone.

Make sure you close ODIN, and start a new instance each and every time you use it, and make sure you follow the step

So did cache & data wipe, factory reset from recovery mode (don't know how I even got there). Now Fascinate boots to totally different screen so def. got rid of a lot of stuff. But it gets FC on android.process.media... and TwLauncher over and over, unusable. CAN mount phone from USB in regular mode and can see the root pieces still there: su, busybox, rage, TwLauncher...
Can I try deleting those pieces from there? Or other suggestions?

Based on where you're at and the systems you are describing, I would do post #4 in the sticky and then do everything listed in post #1 from the beginning vs. troubleshooting where you're at now. And before you use ODIN, make sure you do steps 5-11 first. This is very important.

Instead of wasting more of your time troubleshooting, I would re-flash DL09 again (this will override any recovery stuff you've done), and then start from the beginning in post 1.

At step 13. Odin3 is at "<ID:01003>recovery.bin".
Phone is still at "Downloading..... Do not turn off targert".
Has been at this state for about 10mins. now. Am I becoming impatient, or is something wrong?
