Leaked ics

I flashed the leaked RUU and Scotts ICS 4.0 Rom last night. Its by far the best Rom Ive had installed since I rooted this Phone.
You have to re lock your bootloader and Flash the leaked baseband first and then unlock again then re load the ROM so you'll lose everything that isnt backed up.But the external SD card will be alright.Although I backed mine up anyway to be safe. I was having Sim card issues and since force closes up until i flashed this newest update and now I get no errors and it is much snapper than it was. Check it out. Its a little bit of a nerve racking experience but that the thrill of it after all isnt it.
I hope its OK to post a link to his site if not just delete it.

Wow, didn't know my opinion was in such high demand. Anyway I haven't had a chance to even peek at the leak yet but as specified pretty much everywhere this is an RC, not the production release. Only major change I've read about thus far is that the data arrows work again and really that wasn't a big deal for me before, and it's not now.

I hear ya. No leaked release candidates for me. I have been burned on other phones by installing non official releases.

for those that installed the leak without root, are you able to debloat?

You can disable some of the bloat, but, not all of it. i.e. you can disable Blockbuster, Hot Pursuit, Let's Golf 2, V Cast Music, and, Verizon Video, but, you cannot disable NFL Mobile.

i saw on the release notes that vla is gone, is that true? i guess this isn't as good as full debloat, but at least it is partial, for those of use who don't want to root yet.

vla is gone.

There does seem to be some things that need to be cleaned, like long application names wrap weird (result of font change?), and, the spin cycle clock on the lock screen doesn't display the 2nd digit of the day - i.e. March 20 is shown as Mar 2

Battery life might be an issue, but, it might be a result of playing with the phone after the update.

I have noticed that the battery life is short. I have made adjustment to the email syncing and removed unwanted apps. I don't get why the battery drops so fast with little to no use. I sent 4 text messages and two 2 minute calls to find after 5 hours my battery was at 30%. I have two standard batteries that I go through everyday since I did the upgrade. Prior, I could be on the phone, texting or even playing games in an 8 hour period with 40% left.

How do we flash back?

Really? So I guess the hope that version would keep their grimy hands of of the disable feature was too much to hope for. I want to be able to disable ANYHING that is not the os/rom etc.

NFL mobile was one the top of the list next to slacker radio to disable too. Please for the love of God tell me you can disable it. The ed thing runs constantly.

I guess this is more reason to root later...

I was able to disable everything that was on the Verizon tab when you being up the app drawer. NFL mobile included, and even My Verizon. In fact, the only app I couldnt disable that I wanted to was Google Books.

Edit: sorry, didn't see the "unrooted" comment... That might be the difference.

I was able to disable NFL Mobile after I uninstalled updates.
I also am able to disable slacker radio.

It appears, if the app was updated, that you cannot disable it. You must uninstall the update, and, then it appears that you can disable the app.

root is not required to do this. I am not rooted.

thanks, that is great news. I hope that they keep it the same for the ota.

Is there any way to back up my phone before I do this ?
I am not rooted , just do not want to lose every thing.
Thanks

If you are not rooted, then you will lose every thing. There are apps like astro that let you backup apps but not app data. I am not rooted and I will just wait for the ota since I am in the same boat as you.

About you can do is backup your contacts and apps. Everything else gets wiped in the update. That's why it's tagline is caveat emptor. You can't go back once you set sail unless you root, even then it could be problematic to go back to GB.

my pictures and music on my sdcard were left intact. My contacts were backed up via Google. but, all of my apps got zapped. I was figuring on the Play Store remembering my app's, but, it missed a few. The Amazon App store was zapped, too, and, I haven't gotten it back, yet.

In the Market(Play Store) you can view your history to see what you had. For the Amazon App Store it remembers every "purchase"

what is the diffrence between the OTA and this up date? Are you telling me when it comes out from Verizon we will not have to back up it will keep all our setting ?

Difference is this recent one isn't officially meant to be an OTA update, it's a leaked build. Although, this new leak is purported to be the stock ICS/Sense build that is expected to be handed off to Verizon. It doesn't mean this build is exactly what will comprise the final build but it's essentially viewed as "unofficially" finalized til we hear or see otherwise. Verizon still needs to test and sign off on it before they push it out to the masses. So there may be changes before then, there usually are minor ones. As far as settings goes the OTA will do the same thing to your phone as has occurred with every OS upgrade in the past. There's nothing different that will happen when going from GB>ICS, as going from Froyo>GB.

If you wait and get the OTA, then most likely it would not require a data wipe and as such your settings would be kept. If you were to install the full ruu from the leaked ics, then you would have to do a data wipe, so you will have to redo all of your settings.

Also, if this leaked version is not the same as the OTA, then most likely, you will have to do a manual install through the official ruu similar to the leaked one here if you wished to get the OTA or future OTAs, and that would require another data wipe and loss of settings. Of course, if the leaked ics is the same as the OTA, then the next OTA should come automatically.
