leaked MR2 vs. official MR2

I tried searching for the answer to this question. I found the question asked several times, but could not find a straight answer to it. Please forgive me if I missed it.

If I update to the MR2 radio that was leaked, will I still get the OTA for the next official MR2 when it finally comes from Verizon?

I can not lock into 3G because I get reboots when I do that. I don't get them in 4G, but the battery life has gotten worse and worse recently. I was hoping with the leaked MR2 that I could lock into 3G without the reboots.

As far as I know it's a total guess at this point since MR2 is not official... and it might actually be the MR2.5 that is leaked.

They both were leaked, and from what I read, the 2.5 was worse than the 2. I don't want to get stuck having to root and then return to stock in order to get the official update when it comes. That's just more than I want to get into.

I was told by some folks on here that since the leaked MR2 was digitally signed by verizon that we should be fine to get any additional updates that come out. Not sure how official that answer was but I was willing to take the risk. Whatever the next update that comes out, someone will have it available for us to install if we can't get it OTA, so I was willing to take the risk.

Thank you, that eases my mind some. So how is it?

I've loved MR2. The day after I installed it I took a 2 week road trip from Texas to New York to South Carolina. Used navigation the entire way and Pandora most of the time....not a single reboot. Handed off between 1x, 3G and 4G perfectly. My GPS locks on inside buildings now (if i'm someone close to a window). No complaints from me.

Just because it's signed doesn't mean they have to support it since it isn't official firmware. Call tech support and tell them you're running the leaked MR2. I'm betting they'll likely tell you to revert back to MR1.

And you were having reboots before? I only get them if I lock into 3G with LTE ON/Off app.

How's battery?

I would get a random reboot every once in awhile when I used my google nav driving around town. I didnt have a serious reboot problem like some people do. Battery seems about the same.

I appreciate all your feedback. Looks like I might have an evening project...

It's very easy to do. The MR2 update fixed GPS and reboots for me. Battery is the same, so it's still problematic. I'm a bit worried about the next official update though... Pretty sure we have a few months before we have to worry about that anyway.

I really dont think there is much they can do for the battery. They just put in way too small of a battery to handle that huge screen and the processing power. The phone is much better with the extended battery. It will last all day with very heavy use and will last a couple days with light to moderate use.

Same here. I took the leaked MR2 and the phone is working beautifully. Reboots are gone. I also had VZWRocks confirm for me, the same thing that was mentioned in this thread already.....because the MR2 RUU has signed release keys, we will get the next OTA.

I am on MR2 as well and no issues. Being able to shut off 4g is a huge battery saver when you don't need it. As far as getting an ota I guess we will know when we know. This build does have all the bloat etc so I am not sure that VZW will block it from OTA.

Shutting off 4G is what I want to do, but I get reboots if I do that. Looks like I'm headed for MR2 in the hopes that I can once again shut off 4G when I don't need it and get some better life out of the battery.

Yeah in MR2 in the network settings you can set it to cdma or LTE/cdma. I haven't seen any restarts and I can get a full day out of stock battery with medium usage and some bump charging. And of course its very easy to spin up the LTE modem when I want to do some heavy browsing or watch videos on YouTube etc.

I have used the LTE on/off from the market. It works fine in both directions, but I have issues in the CDMA Auto PRL mode. So I'm going to suck it up and flash the MR2 RUU and cross my fingers.

And it is done!!! I feel like I should be in a Staples commercial..."That was Easy!"

So far so good.

Wish more people having problems would just take the leap and try it out. Might cut down on a lot of the complaints on here. Let us know how it works out for you.
