Leaving Samsung?

I've had Samsung phones for the last 4 years. But I'm making the jump into pixel. I most likely would have been on the note 7 this year but we all know what happened. I thought about the S7E but the curves seemed to be more pronounced than the note 7 and never like the idea of the edges. I'm wondering if anyone else left Samsung for pixel and wonder what they miss and what they are glad they gained by making the switch. I'm personally going to miss the s pen and notification light but greatful for the speedy updates.

Is the fingerprint sensor on the back awkward to use than the conventional sensor on the front. Do people typically place the phone face down on a table to easily activate the phone when picking it up? Also are the gestures on the sensors useful?

While the Pixels don't have a variant of the S-pen, you do have the notification light (which can be customized a great deal with the Light Flow app). Hope you love your Pixel!

There are many Note 7 refugees here. Since I was forced to switch, I wanted to try something completely new. This phone is ok and will do until the 8 comes out. It's been interesting being on the XL and now I can say I have tried something other than Samsung.

Pixel is ok despite connectivity issues and having to load up on apps to replicate things I missed about the Note (the sideswipe screen shot, a couple different note apps, AOD). Miss the stock launcher from the Note, and their keyboard which I really liked. Had to get something, this was it. Not a bad phone, overpriced. Faster than the Note but I have never thought speed was everything. Will probably have to hold on to this one for a while, but planning on going back to Samsung. Have also had LG phones, and one HTC briefly, but liked Samsung better.

You don't seem impressed with the Pixel. I get how you feel though. Samsung packed so many great features it their phones. The biggest issue with Samsung for me was the update process. Waiting 4 months for an update that breaks a feature then waiting another 4 months for the patch is ridiculous.

I was all about Samsung until the Note 7 fiasco. Had the S4, Note 4, and Note 7. Then, returned the Note 7 and used a friend's 5x and 6p until I got my Pixel XL last week. After using the 5x, 6p, and XL, I find myself not preferring Samsung at all anymore. I loved my Note 4 for the big display, but I honestly never used the S Pen much. I also don't care for curved, "edge" display, which the Note 7 had. I dislike the bloatware on Samsung phones, so it is refreshing to not have all that preloaded crap on the XL. I prefer a 5.7" screen personally, so the XL is just a tad smaller than what would be ideal for me. But I like the XL very much and will just adapt to having a slightly smaller screen. I rely heavily on the Light Flow app light notifications, and the XL works great with that.

And I used most of those features so I miss that and will go back to it. The updates didn't bother me. This phone isn't bad, it just isn't what I need.

Well let's see, a few years ago I owned a Google Nexus 5, then a Samsung Galaxy S6 that I still have and now a Pixel XL. The good of the Pixel is the upgrades of Android Platform, you don't have to wait months and months before Samsung and then your carrier, in my case AT&T, bring the OTA to your phone. The not so good are those things related to a pure Android phone, that's is the lack of features. For example no matter what kind of combination I made with two paid versions of lead light notifications, there are not lead at my Pixel XL. On or off the internal notification of SMS paid apps or e-mails paid apps no lead comes at my Pixel, no sound either. I'm including two screenshots of this lead paid apps, so you can see that I not trolling here. In my opinion, more or less ten years with Android and many Flagships phones, the Pixel is not so user friendly regarding third party paid apps. Not all my paid launcher's work at the Pixel, you be good with Nova Prime or Action 3 paid version. Two paid e-mails apps received new mail but no way a lead or a sound. So for the first time I'm using the Gmail app no sound no lead and Google Messenger sound and little lead. Remember the Pixel just got a little lead light. And when you go to the FAST factor the Pixel is fast but I never see continuous lag or loading loading loading at my Galaxy S6, this phone is and was fast always. The battery is not a big one at the S6 but one charger at home and another at the office and you are good. Pixel battery is bigger and you get more battery life.

Short of exploding connection issues are the worst. I'm surprised anybody puts up with it

I did know about Pixel fires
Oh this is serious, I charge my Pixel with the official Google charger that came in the box with the phone and order another one, just the same, from Google. But is this exploding is regarding battery or other internal component on the Pixel we are in trouble here. Bad news, very bad news.

I meant to say I did NOT know about any pixel fires. It was a typo. Sorry

There is a comma missing there: Short of exploding issues, connection issues are the worst. I took that to mean: It doesn't explode, but it doesn't stay connected either.

I had the Note 7. That was my favorite phone. After the fiasco and terrible customer service, I opted for the Pixel XL. I couldn't be happier. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a Samsung phone, but what it does have is a damn fine user experience and lightning fast performance. Plus, software updates from Google. You'll enjoy it!

Samsung really shot themselves in the foot. I too am moving from a Note 7 to the Pixel. I don't like the Edge and the regular S7 doesn't grab my attention.
