Leaving the Nexus behind

If I had the issues you guys were having, I'd be leaving as well. I haven't (fingers crossed), and this phone has been everything I wanted and more. If you like the phone's overall design and hardware, I'd suggest possibly rooting it and flashing a custom ROM? I prefer Redemption ROM, simply because of the dev's focus on stability, speed, and battery life.

However, even when I was running mine stock (which I did for a while), I was getting through a day, easily. Is it possible that you guys have an app that was poorly coded and is sucking battery life? Maybe try uninstalling some, selectively, to isolate the issue. If that doesn't work, you could always try wiping the system and setting everything up, but only getting the apps you absolutely need. I had to do that back on my Droid Incredible to get battery life to be better than 5 hours, so perhaps that's happening here? Seems unlikely due to the large scale, but still, it might be worth a shot.

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy whatever phone you're looking at next.

I've decided to get a One X. Just can't deal with this thing anymore, and will not force myself back into an iPhone to wait for the fighter.

So you're going to switch carriers for the One X? Interesting.

99% sure. The nexus is just not reliable enough for me. Att's network in my area is far better.

That's the first time I ever heard that ;).

Good luck to you regardless. I love the One X, but breaking a contract just isn't my cup of tea right now. That and there seems to be some...issues...with the One X.

I may wait a bit, but I'm leaning there. I don't root, so the One X lock down isn't a factor.

Understandable. It's not just that (although it'd be big for me), but there's a lot of threads about "Returning One X for XYZ" etc. Kinda shocking, b/c I'm absolutely in love with that phone lol

I think expectations got away from some people. I know it won't be perfect, but I know it will get frequent updates and work where I need it most.

Just because it's overkill. I had a nexus with major issues and just getting a replacement has made the phone usable and even though I'm a noob as far as rooting, the Gnex is the easiest phone on the market to root.

Well, Verizon decided to swap me into a RAZR Maxx. I've been having a ton of network issues since I got the phone, and I was able to give them specific enough details of the issues that they concluded that it had to be the phone and not the network. They didn't even try to get me another nexus, they just offered the Max right away.

They didn't try to shove a replacement down your throat? That's kinda hard to believe. Not calling you a liar. Just seems like they are giving out RAZR maxxs at an astounding rate lately

I wish I knew how you did it because I tried several times to get them to swap me for a Razr Maxx and they wouldn't do it I just gave up and went and added a new line and got the Razr Maxx. I am glad I did I am getting a way better signal then I ever did on the nexus

I just told them about my poor reception and call quality and battery life.

An OTA was placed on Google's servers on May 23. We have a thread for it and the one that came before in early May.

Until it rolls out from VZW to my phone, it doesn't mean diddly to me.

My phone reboots almost every time I use the camera. It reboots 2-3 times a day when listening to an audio book or Google Music. I lose all data connection EVERYTIME I hand off to 3G coverage and have to toggle airplane mode to get data back, sometimes reboot. I can't watch Hulu Plus on this phone. Every single issue I just listed has happened since day one and VZW thinks it's acceptable.

What exactly is stopping you from flashing 4.0.4 to your phone?

This is the sixth time I've contacted them about the issues, so they okayed it.

That's unacceptable. I'd keep hounding Vzn CS and demand a different replacement phone than the Nexus. And if they refused I'd just quit paying Verizon. A friend of mine did that and there isn't anything they can really do to you. If they file a credit ding you can get it fixed by claiming they didn't hold up their end of the contract. Credit beuros side with you.
