Let's be honest here , who's trading in their X for s3?

Well tell that to the majority of the people here who feels the Samsung phones are flimsy because its too light. They are your people, not mine.

I preordered an S3, so I'm of both tribes. And I can't speak for previous phones, but anyone who claims they feel the One X is heavier is lying or has a precision scale built into their wrist. I think people are talking more about the flimsyness of the build, rather than the weight.

Your making no sense, the HTC ONE X is 3g lighter than the SGS3.

The SGS3 is regarded as cheap, because it has a cheap shiny plastic back cover (which looks awful, worse than the SGS1, although very similar in design) - it just doesn't have the premium feel that the HTC ONE X has when in the hand.

The comments I've seen have mentioned nothing about weight.

I didn't read this entire thread but I have to make a comment about the build quality of the S3. Some people here are saying the One X is better because it is made of polycarbonate plastic and Samsung is using "cheap" plastic. Samsung has come out and said the S3 is made of polycarbonate as well, it's just glossy instead of matte (Samsung's marketing term is "hyperglaze"). So please stop using the polycarb thing as an argument.

Confirmed: the Samsung Galaxy S III is polycarbonate, not plain plastic

I guess people could still say they prefer the matte finish instead? No?

Absolutely, I prefer matte as well, but so many people still think the One X is using some higher quality plastic than the S3, which it's not. Also, you've got the issue with colors rubbing off/bleeding onto the matte white One X where the S3 doesn't have that problem. Neither is perfect.

Actually there is a big difference in quality,

Not only does the HOX have the premium look & feel, but the back is one-piece, meaning if scratched, it will be the same colour underneath, making the scratch almost impossible to see.

Regarding keeping it clean, there is a video of the ONE X being written on with a pen, only to be easily wiped free.

The design and quality is constant throughout the phone, from the micro drilled speaker holes (which are waterproof and you can't feel them when touched), to the curved screen design which offers a 3d effect.

Put both phones together and you see a big difference in quality between the devices, HTC have lived up to their name and produced a seriously sexy device.

Except HTC is also known for power buttons failing over time, and random things just stopped working over time. To me, if the phone just doesn't last through its useful life cycle without something failing, than you can't talk all about solid feel etc, in the end it doesn't really mean anything.

I have this POS thunderbolt sitting on my desk right now, and like typical HTC fashion, the rubber coated plastic is flaking off, the power button does not work. Sure it feels nice and sturdy in my hand compared to my wife's Samsung Droid Charge, but guess what? Everything on her phone works.

More people seem to have defective phones when new vs the samsung phones as well. Just looking at this subforum looks like any typical new phone where they have issues with consistent build quality. We will have to wait till july to see how the Samsung holds up on it's initial release. But if its anything like the Galaxy S2, there will be very very little complaint of stuff not working or getting phones with crooked screens like you do with HTC phones. Samsung also have a larger sample size since they do sell more phones than HTC does.

So, per Samsung, it's not actually made of cheap plastic, it's really polycarbonate that just happens to feel exactly like cheap plastic?

Who are you trying to convince?

Samsung's build isn't perfect, I've seen some comments already of SGS3 getting screen burn in.

.... Not to mention that my own SGS2 needed to be sent back to Samsung (scotland) for repair after less than 5 months due to a broken USB slot that not only stopped my phone from charging, but made sure I couldn't turn it off too (they also sent it back locked and with a worse screen, that had a much lower brightness setting)

... So,to act like Samsung doesn't have many faults too is ridiculous, I was in the Samsung forums for 3 years, I've seen hundreds of threads for device faults, DOA, screen burn, home button, volume rocker, power button failures etc.

It's quite easily to walk into a forum and see nothing but faults, as that's what people log in to post, not many people cone on to create New threads about how awesome their phone is, regulars like myself log on for news and to try to help others who are posting problems or asking the questions.

If your definition of cheap plastic is glossy then I guess so. Have you held it in you hand?

No, this is based on the reports from those that have: What's in a touch? The Samsung Galaxy S III polycarbonate debate

Earlier we told you all that the Samsung Galaxy S III has a case and battery cover that is made of polycarbonate, not just regular plastic, which means the case is much stronger, more durable, and more scratch resistant, even though the case may still look and feel like normal plastic.

It may be polycarbonate, but it's apparent Samsung designed it to have the same look and feel as their previous phones, which were decidedly pasticy in a negative way. Many of the complaints regarding the Galaxy series construction (at least the ones I know of) were not from the plasticy structure itself but the plasticy FEEL of the structure. Which may be why some reviewers are less than impressed when they're told it's polycarbonate, because A: it doesn't feel like polycarbonate and B: If it's polycarbonate, why doesn't it feel like polycarbonate? not to mention C: Damnation, guys, why did you make this nice polycarbonate material feel exactly like cheap plastic???

Personally, I think if they used poly, congrats. I still say that something with a cover designed to be removable simply cannot be designed to be as solid as something cast as a single piece of hard polycarbonate that isn't designed to come apart. That's simple physics. For some, having a removable battery is worth that. For me, it isn't anymore (especially now that I've experienced how battery-efficient Snapdragons are). and I never did like peeling the back of a phone off. Lost a couple of fingernails to that, and one Motorola ATRIX battery cover (cracked while it was being peeled off).

Permanent burn in takes months to occur, not days. What you are seeing is image retention, which is normal for OLED and plasma displays. There's nothing you can do about it. It's inherent to the tech.

Yes, I've heard people claim that but its not what we see here on xda.

Look at the galaxy nexus which is practically the same screen, many reported screen burns quite early.

Not to mention that users are advised to dull their screen to not only save battery but to give less chance of burn. (Basically told to lower their enjoyment of the screen)

The HOX has full RGB, no screen burn and can operate at a much higher brightness without damage or worry.

Are you friggen serious?! So when I get my S3 I need to keep it dim to avoid risking burning the screen! What kinda crap is that? That legit pisses me off!

You're getting image retention confused with burn in. The only thing I could see burning in on the Galaxy Nexus is the on screen menu buttons at the bottom because they are static and never go away unless you play a game or watch a video full screen.

I looked this up on xda and this is real! What kind of crap is Samsung trying to peddle? This is not the 1980s I shouldn't have to worry about burning images into my screen!

Now using HTC Evo4GLTE took it back two years ago. The screen was having shadow image of white areas from center to right side.
