I think we will get it on Halloween. I remember Jerry saying that he has talked to folks and Motorola really wants to beat Google to the punch with the update.

What's your guess?

Sorry to say, but No!!!

Motorola will not release Lollipop for the Moto X before Motorola releases Lollipop on the Nexus 6... I don't think they will be far behind, at least on the Pure Edition Moto X (2014). If the Nexus 6 comes out in November, then maybe the Pure Edition will get it in December.

Within four weeks of the first official Nexus image.

Yeah, I'm thinking mid-November. I think we'll be shocked (like last year) by how quickly the get it to us.

Jerry keeps hinting that it's going to be a very fast turnaround.

Motorola wants to get lollipop on the moto x before the Nexus 5 not the 6. It's not possible to get it before the nexus 6.

Within days of whenever the Nexus 6 becomes available. Lollipop will have been cleared through carriers for the 6 to be on sale. Should make it ready for push to the Moto X.

Motorola will update a model of the second generation Moto X to Lollipop faster than...

  • Samsung updates a model of the Galaxy S5 to Lollipop
  • Samsung updates a model of the Galaxy Note 4 to Lollipop
  • HTC updates a model of the One M8 to Lollipop
  • LG updates a model of the G3 to Lollipop
  • Sony updates a model of the Z3 to Lollipop

At best, the Moto X will be updated on par with the Nexus (OTA).

I'm actually kind of expecting the new Moto X to beat OTAs for the Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 4 and all of the current GPe models.

The Sony one will still be close enough to be negligible if the last year is any indication. The last update was only a week or two behind Moto in most regions. In India Sony was first.

Going beyond the Moto X second gen, I still expect Motorola to update older phones like the first gen Moto X/Moto G, the Moto E, and even the DROID MINI, ULTRA, and MAXX to L long before Sony updates the Z2 and older phones.

Moto will still be the number one non-Nexus OEM on JR Raphael's Android Update report card.

My guess is end of next week.

Plus or minus three weeks.

:-)

I'm thinking I might be real close in my guess. No reason for this belief at all. None. 😊

We're going to get in probably a week. Probably beating Nexus 5 meaning close to November 12
