That is quite the edit job. Nice.

Yesterday's bike ride to a favorite location - Golden Gardens Park. The tide was definitely OUT.

Yesterday's walk at Discovery Park with the tide really out. And the fixings for Gin, Rhubarb Syrup and soda

Dunno if it's because I'm on the beta program, and I know this thread is usually about celebrating the pictures taken on a P6, but damn these are turrble. The focus is all out of wack, despite me being outside.

The top one looks good to me -- doesn't seem blurry, even if I zoom in. The bottom one doesn't look too bad -- but was it a Top Shot/live picture? I find that those sometimes yield suboptimal pics. Maybe try turning Top Shot off.

It's not picture itself in the first one, but rather the ability to separate the subject from the background in portrait mode. The borders are sloppy at best.

As for the second picture, the subject is not in focus, and instead, the camera focused on the bush to the left. You can see the bush has more detail and is sharperz while the subject is fuzzier with less sharp details. It wasn't a top shot either. It was just a regular shot, which is normally a piece of cake for any Pixel.

Oh, I see what you mean. Hair, especially when it's mussy or blowing around, can still be tricky for the AI.

For the bottom one, did you open the camera and shoot, or did you tap her face first to focus there? I've found that the camera can still have some issues with a quick open and shoot, especially if the subject is in motion.

Yeah, I always tap and shoot, but for whatever reason, the camera just wasn't pulling it's weight today. I generally have zero problems with any Pixel camera, and actually carry around a Pixel 4 as my camera, partially because I don't want to drain my daily driver's battery with camera activity, and partially because of the unlimited photo storage. I know the Pixel 6 should have a better camera, which is why I think being on the beta at least messed with this particular set of photos. Here are a few more from that same group of photos where the camera decided to act like a good a decent Pixel. Here, the wind is blowing her hair around, and yet there's zero blur or distortion. Similarly, features are sharp and detailed. unfortunately, portrait mode decided to include the right bush with the subject and only blur the bush on the left.

Portrait mode period is hit and miss on the Pixel 6 series from my experience. I always try to use the telephoto for portrait shots otherwise sometimes you get some really great portrait shots(I usually dial down the blur in post) or the depth estimation is all over the place.

That's the double edged sword with tech. Yeah, it's new, but it hasn't grown into it's capabilities yet. Its funny how only near the end of it's lifecycle does the Pixel 4 really feel like a complete and perfect pixel, just like the Pixel 3 last year. Maybe by Android 14, the P6 will be what it was supposed to be on release.
