LG G Pad 8.3 Hands-On

Here's a recent review from digital trends. Let me know what you all think about their negatives once you get the tablet in- hand.

LG G Pad 8.3 review | Digital Trends Reviews

Pretty unbiased review and realistic. I compare this tab to the $269 Nexus 7 32gb, only because i have a spare unopened 16gb micro sd card lol. IMO, for $80 more i get the screen size i want, newer processor and an IR blaster. My giant iPad3 can get passed to my wife and kids :)

FYI: BB site has store pick up available on October 27!!!

Standard shipping shows 10/29-11/1 !!!

Just got it!

Boy that screen is nice. I can't see what they're saying with the quiet speakers. If you're left handed and not cupping one of the speakers, it's still loud. I've got it at half volume and it's plenty loud.

I have no idea what they meant with the plastic. This thing has zero give and feels very, very nice. I'm used to Samsung's flimsy plastic and this is so refreshing.

It's very quick, but LG's skin is abhorrent. It looks awful. Within the first 5 minutes I put Nova back on it. I'm excited to see development start for this so we can get CM on it. This thing will absolutely sail on CM.

Overall, I'm very pleased with it. I'll be even more pleased once we can get rid of LG's awful skin.

As you can see, you lose a little bit of the site due to the on screen buttons compared to the Galaxy Note 8. The devices are roughly the same size though, but the G Pad is a lot nicer to hold and more comfortable.

definitely slimmer than the Note 8. looks slick!

let me know how the RAM takes on multi tasking please? i'd be in between gaming, email, pdfs and quickoffice editing xcel sheets mostly.

also, do apps/games reload when you get back to them after say, 5 mins? They reload on my LG OG.

Have you paired it with your G2 yet? Still waiting on my delivery today.

Feel free to ask any more questions!

Thanks for the update! I'm dying to confirm if it has slimport through the micro USB?

It is on the G2. HDMI connectivity is a must for me and not through miracast which should be in all Android 4.2 or higher devices.

Also, does LGs version of Android 4.2 support multi-user? Samsung killed it on the Note 10.1 (2014) grrrr.

Well I've had it on for a few hours and the apps that I had open when I first started using it didn't reload when I brought them back up. Having a full list of apps open, I still have nearly 800 MB of free RAM left.

I don't use slimport, so I can't comment on that. It supports Miracast, though.

And there is multi-user support here.

Sweet news about multi-user support. You may be able to find information about slimport support in the G Pad documentation somewhere or via the display settings. It's definitely on the LG G2 and Nexus 4, both LG products. So far this is the tablet for me. But I might hesitate if it doesn't have slimport.

Thanks for the pictures looks like a solid unit. As for the review seems overall positive, the only thing I did not really understand was the price being a negative?

The price is $349 correct? What other tablets in its size are cheaper that have even close to comparable specs?

I checked already in all the settings for slimport. The only thing I see for wireless display is Miracast and the WiFi display.

The only negative for me is LG's skin. The price isn't bad at all given what you're getting. The closest competition are the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HDX, both of which are different. The N7 has a slower SoC and smaller screen size, and the Kindle Fire HDX has a smaller screen size and is locked to Amazon's app store with their Fire OS. You could compare it to the original iPad Mini, but even after paying the extra $50-20 dollars, it's a huge improvement over the Mini in terms of a tablet, without factoring in how you feel about Android VS iOS. You've got the Note 8 as well, but it's more expensive, slower, and has a worse display. Plus, those things don't really matter if you need the Note 8's biggest feature: the S-Pen.

Its new competition is the new iPad Mini Retina at $400. At that point, it all comes down to your preference of OS. The new iPad Mini sure is a nice tablet, though.

Good points all. I too was a little confused by the price negativity. Albeit, it would have been nice if LG made it 32 GB standard instead of 16 GB at that price point. For an extra $50 - $60 you can then slap a 64 GB micro sd card in it and store a ton of apps, movies and music. In spite of LG's skin it appears they are at least keeping some of the major features of Android unlike Samsung which is a little too heavy handed in Touchwiz.

I can also confirm that the G Pad appears to support slimport based on these two sites:

Slimportconnect.com
SlimPort

and GSM Arena:
LG G Pad 8.3 - Full phone specifications

P.S.
Just thought of one more question. In your manage app settings do you have the option to move apps to the external (sd) card?
