LG G2 - Best way to back up before messing with the phone?

I think its junk because it doesn't do anything. Unless im missing something, it didn't work for me. My G2 was turning in and off all the time. Had to do a factory reset in the phone. It worked, but the restore didn't. I lost everything. It stored on the phone, so when it reset everything back to day one, the backup went too.

I don't think you are being fair.
You stored your backup on the phone and then factory restored it. Why would you store the backup on the phone? The first thing I did was to transfer the backup image to my desktop.

Hmmm i was wondering about that too.

I think it's always a good idea to make a periodic backup of the contents of the storage. Every 1 or 2 months I backup(to my PC HD) apps, whatsapp chats, pics, and app settings. If people just back up and update the stuff that's changed and get rid of large files such as stored maps and game data(the data that games use and which is often downloaded after first running the game) etc which aren't important or personal/unique, then each backup is less than about 200MB.

Would only seem natural that you should have gotten the data off the phone before resetting. That is hardly the apps fault.

Hi guys,

Just came across this thread.. I hope it posts in the right spot!

With regard to the 'LG backup' app that appears on the LG G2 phone.. one thing that scares me a little, and I just need confirmation..

Once I go through the process and tick boxes of what I want backup up.. then the next screen where 'Internal Storage' is selected, and I also check the 'Use the lock' function.. the next screen 'Attention' gives me the warning that it will do a factory reset (in first paragraph). Am I misreading something here? Why on Earth would I want it to do that? .. I just want to create the backup.. export it.. and that's it. I don't want it to touch anything, or delete anything on my phone.

Has this been the case with anyone here?

Your help would be most greatly appreciated! :)

John

Maybe the app is intended solely for the situation for when where you're about to upgrade your phone or are selling your phone. In that case, backing up and then doing a factory reset (for privacy and security reasons) would be the logical path

No, I used LG Backup and was able to back up everything and was not asked to wipe anything or do a factory reset.
What's Use the lock function? Don't use it? See what happens?
Which model/software of G2 do you have?

I tried plugging in my USB OTG device and then went through the backup process. It gave me the option to save the backup on the USB, which I chose. It worked like a charm, and I don't have to worry about it being lost if I factory wipe my phone. I thought this was a great option if uploading to cloud storage isn't an option.

*Edit* I did discover one catch. I cannot schedule backups onto the USB OTG, only manual backups. Still, a nice option I thought.

Where on the LG G2 is the backup file stored? I did a backup prior to a factory reset (to correct some issues with the phone). I saw a warning to store the file to PC but it did not indicate where on the phone the file was stored. Secondly, when backing up via LG PC Suite, there is no option to backup media files - did I miss something?

It's called something like "LGBackup" and the actual backup file is one huge binary file around 1GB. You also have the option in thr LG backup app to back it up on Google servers.
There's an option on LG backup app for the backup media, so you can then plug in your phone to your pc and then copy that file to your pc.

Every time I attempt to run the backup utility it fails. Any ideas?

Edit: Apparently all I needed to do was post this for it to fix itself. Oddly, it changed my keyboard from Swiftkey to Swype.

Sent from The LG-G2.

I like to backup using LG PC Suite, as it seems to do a complete image of the phone, excluding media (which is fine, as there's not much point in backing that up as well, when you can restore it directly from your PC anyway.)

BUT... much of the time, the backups fail, usually about 85% of the way through after half an hour, with the popup "An error occurred during backup. The device will restart automatically. Do not disconnect the device."

Is anyone else getting this, and have you found the cause?

Don't use LG PC Suite anymore, Lollipop is not compatible with it. Use LG Backup instead from the mobile phone itself, this is the most realiable and secure way, and you can simply copy the result file to your computer in case you want more security.

Regards
