LG G2: How bad is the UI really?

Re: How bad is the UI really?

2 years ago, wao I'am late on this Google Motorola thing. So maybe we can expect the next Nexus 6 is going to be a LG as Nexus 5. Thanks for the information. I got the LG G2 and this year I'am thinking to go with the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the LG G3. Let's see when this two arrives at AT&T. Thanks again.

I think it's anyones guess who'll be making the next Nexus, LG has made the last 2, Samsung made the 2 before that and HTC made the first. Don't get me wrong tho I think Motorola could make an awesome Nexus. I thought the Moto x was a great phone with some innovative new features. I just think if Motorola makes a Nexus phone you are going to see the same thing from partner manufacturers that you saw when Microsoft announced they were going to be making tablets, only uglier heh.

I'm also looking forward to what the S5 and G3 will bring to the table this year.

Having come from a Razr Maxx HD, I can say that not only have I gotten used to the US, but it's actually grown on me. LG put some nifty little tricks into it that I kind of like. To each their own.

After I bought my daughter the G2 I can't help but be excited for the G3 to be released

You're right Moto X is a good one. I never got a Nexus device cause I just bought my Android phones at AT&T official store. I really like my G2 so a few more months is going to be the G3 or the S5. Ha ha who knows what comes to the front line and I just jump for it. One thing is certain, no more HTC, already own three.

The g2 doesn't feel bloated. I mean it is very similar to touchwiz but it manages to stay all smooth. I have a few gripes about the ui but they're all just to do with aesthetics, I think it looks a little cartoonish, and it's inconsistent with so many different themes and animations going on. I'll try to change it up once I've rooted. In terms of functionality and convenience, it just about beats everything imo. And the battery life is brilliant. I'd recommend this phone

I'd also like to add that the notification bar is bad with all the clutter (as far as I know, there is no way to disable the power controls from the notification) and the fact there is no easy way to link contacts with Facebook and Twitter accounts. Basically just clear up redundant links the way you can in Sense. The g2 also lacks some of the more useful widgets that you kind of take for granted in Sense, like a 4x4 scrolling contacts widget and FriendStream.

It's not so much the look of the LG UI or Touchwiz homescreen that bothers me, that can be addressed by a launcher. It's all the older Gingerbread elements that are present inside the core apps and settings menus that a launcher can't change. Samsung seems to be addressing this soon with a Touchwiz overhaul, hopefully LG follows suit

I am using an HTC One and have been thinking about the G2 for a little bigger screen, however most of the reviews and my own brief time playing with the UI seem to suggest that it is "bloated" and full of junk. Anyone have an opinion or is anyone using a third party launcher to solve the cluttered UI issue? If so, does it slow down your experience?

I love my G2. Its performance is a step above what I had with my SGS4 (which was no slouch in its own right). What I like about the G2 is the size is literally the same as the S4, but screen is bigger, I think the camera is better and while this is a small thing, I like how the USB and 3.5mm ports are on the same side (in this case, bottom) of the phone. The UI is arguably heavier than TouchWiz on a Samsung, but I like all the features LG built into the thing. It simply runs better.

Bang for the buck, the G2 is the best Android deal going I think. AT&T has retail listed at $465. That's a great deal for a device with this spec.

As awesome as this forum is, so many are overly critical of every single UI there is. So keep that in mind and take everything with a grain of salt. There's so many complaints, because everyone feels they could do better. Which is why we have Nova, Apex, Go, and other launchers.

Seriously. So many people are always like, "Oh, just slap on a launcher and it's fine" but they fail to spell out the problem that the launcher can only change some cosmetic issues. A launcher will not change the fact that a lot of the garbage is coded into the system and is often unchangeable, which is why I do not consider a launcher to be any sort of solution for the terrible OEM skins/UIs.

I made the exact switch and the UI is my biggest pet peeve about this phone. The app drawer is awful. There's really no way to auto organize your app drawer. I can't find any of my apps right now. It's like webOS used to be, but not tabbed, so you have no idea how it's organized. Also, I've noticed the unlock screen lags and that the One takes a little more accurate pics (though having the extra pixels is helpful in other applications).

Another thing I've noticed, at least on Sprint, is that the HTC One has better cell service than the LG G2.

Also, I don't know if you used a case with your One - my silver One didn't need a case because it was durable. I made the mistake of not casing my LG and it's already getting scratched up.

I am loving the battery life, placement of buttons, and screen size of the phone. It's really up to you - just thought I'd weigh in since I literally just did this two days ago. I'll probably head back to the One when the Kit Kat update comes out.

A weird thing - I had to adjust how I used the phone. I used to use Swype, but the screen is just wide enough now that it stresses my thumb too much. Haha, that could just be me being a baby too.

Update: Soooo... I just figured out how to set the app drawer to alphabetical. No more concern there!

I think the UI in the G2 is better than any phone I've had recently, although I haven't used or owned the one (I won't own another HTC device EVER). That said I think part of the problem is is that the UI is very customizable but it's not always very apparent. Case in point, you can order the app drawer in a number of different ways. You can also skin the keyboard, split it into two separate keyboards so you can use both thumbs or even shrink it for one handed use if you need to. Many other areas of the UI have some very in-depth customization available as well, including the ability to reskin the entire UI to something more your style. I personally am using and love the "Biz" skin from LG.

I've had the G2 about a month now and I'm really impressed with the UI. It's fairly customizable and has some neat features that I like.

Yeah, to each their own on the UI - but if OP is worried about it, chances are it's because he's attached to HTC Sense, and as someone who shares the affinity, it's a pretty annoying adjustment.

Also, where do you get skins from LG? All I have are basic and marshmallow. Maybe those would help!

Download the LG app by going to lgworld.com in the browser on the phone. A lot of the skins there are not my thing, but the Biz skin is nice.

Its all up to personal taste. I can't say I like it as much as aosp or sense 5.5, but its not nearly as bloated as touchwiz and offers more customization out of the box than any other phone. Bottom line is if you want to newest hardware I think this is the best total package and you can always swap out for a different launcher if you want.

G2 UI is customizeable. On of nice feature that even Samsung dont have it yet. Just explore theme collection on LG Smartworld. U can change UI whenever you want it.

The UI wouldn't be so bad if you could actually disable a few things and LG actually streamlined it and added some features. I don't think it's too much to ask to be able to disable the power controls from the Notification bar, or being able to keep lockscreen widets on 1 screen.

I also find it odd that I can't get a brief message on the lock screen to display content of new emails and texts like HTC does with Sense's productivity setting, or the fact that there is no easy way to clean up redundant contacts or an easy way to link them to their facebook, twitter profile etc.
