LG G3: AT&T

Re: LG G3 is Here

Phone looks amazing. Now the debate to buy or not to buy.

I went and played with one in an att store today. It felt good in hand, not to large, but there was definitely some lag when scrolling between screens and the app drawer, similar to the lag on samsung devices. Hopefully an update can address that, but the phone didn't really WOW me. The screen is nice, but not that much of a clear difference between the 1080p screens on other flagships. Hopefully the x+1 can wow me.

Not liking the LCD display compared to the amoled on my note 3. Also I prefer touchwiz??????

App compatibility is better on my note 3.

There are more accessories available for the Note 3.

None of this is a surprise, the phone is barely released. For the record I still think my Tab 3 7.0 has a shockingly nice screen on compared to Galaxy flagship phones, even at its low rez the brightness and colors are great. To each their own.

Anyone figure out how to do slow motion video? I click the option and see it says slow motion on the top right as I record, but playback is at normal speed.

Try tapping the menu key while in video player, my G Flex has a playback speed option. There are some other goodies like built in looping in the stock player too.

Didn't know if we had a first impressions thread.

Received the phone today from AT&T. A day early than Retail launch.

Here's my hands-on video, should be live shortly: LG G3 hands-on - YouTube

To sum up:

Phone is much lighter than I thought it'd be. Not sure if it's just the expectations of a bigger phone being heavier or the look of brushed aluminum and thinking it's not light plastic. But phone is light.

Screen is really good. The text sharpening everyone talks about is definitely there. It's different than any other phone I've had. Not sure why LG did it. I can live with it, it's not horrible. But you definitely notice it at first.

This is my first LG phone outside the Nexus phones and boy do they offer tons of customizations. You can customize the Nav bar color to black or white, did not expect that.

Seems pretty cool. Can't wait to try out the camera!

Can it do this? Some of the other LG phones let you add a fourth button, SWAP the layout (Display menu, the exact submenu should be Button Combination). And the other feature seen here is under Gestures, you can slide the menu keys to either side of center at any time.

I use it all the time. The extra button seen pulls down the notification panel, which is sometimes useful especially one handed in portrait mode with my 6" screen.

Yep you can do that

Oh nice, yours is more like the G2 and Flex had a baby. Being able to manually add, remove and place buttons PLUS group them to either side? Best of both phones thanks for checking.

Re: LG G3 First impressions

I got the SD card installed and recognized (a new one). But I don't know how to direct the camera to save pictures and videos to the SD card. This may be simple incompetence on my part as I came from a Nexus 5 and don't know LG. Any help is appreciated.

The first time I opened the camera app it asked me if I wanted to save the photos etc to the installed sd card.

Just hit the three dots to bring up the menu in the camera app Then the settings (little cog) abd the first setting is a little icon of an as card. If you have it saved to sd card it says ad if you hit it, it switches to IN which is internal storage I assume.

Went back tot he AT&T store at lunch to compare the signal strength against my S3. The G3 had pretty much the same exact dBm's as my S3. However, at one point the G3 jumped up about 20 dBm's and where it had been sitting around 83-86 it jumped up to 100. It stayed there for less than a minute and then it went back to 83 dBm.

I placed the sd card in but the phone isn't recognizing it when I go to settings. Any way to trigger it recognizing or formatting?

As long as the card is not fake or DoA...

Plug the card into a PC. If it recognizes, format the card to something like FAT32. Plug it into the phone, and if it recognizes use the SD tools to reformat again. If it does not recognize go back to the store, your phone may have a bad socket.

I have been playing with my G3 constantly since Wednesday and there's no lag at all with anything I do. I went through and disabled all the bloatware and I restricted background data too. This phone is a BEAST!

I did the same thing and went to an ATT store in San Diego and the phone had some lag. I wonder if it's because it's a display unit? I noticed some jitter and stutter and delays here and there. Also, while clicking on recent apps, it would delay a bit before loading the app. Does anyone with an actual ATT phone confirm whether this is the case or not? Also the 4G LTE wasn't working for some reason. Perhaps it's just a faulty display model or something?

I do like the stock wallpaper and some of the icons and one of the stock sample videos that displayed the 2k resolution was very nice!

Being a display unit I did not put too much stock into the performance but it was kind of alarming to see the lag especially being pretty much brand new in store, and really didn't seem to have all the crap people like to come in and download on it.

I love it but disappointed at some simple things excluded from g2. First home screen won't go to landscape mode, that sucks in my car. Second there's not as much customization as far as app icons, I liked making certain ones large like alarm and poweramp. Finally why no stock flashlight widget????

I have not seen any lag in my AT&T G3. The LTE is working great for me and the battery life is getting better. Once I get through the weekend I will give an in depth review. No headphones in this version either and with the multitude of flashlight apps in the store I think I will be ok in that respect. :-)

I'm ok with it but it was a nice touch, one of many that made me love the g2.
I yet to have a full charge battery test but so far seems good with heavy use.
I really don't know why they would omit the brightness slider on att. It was very convenient plus not having no portrait mode for home screens sucks in my car and on my tv.

G2 also was whiter and brighter g3 seems to have a yellow tint

I am coming from a Lumia 1520 so no landscape mode for the home screen is nothing new for me. I also am not noticing the yellow tint.
