LG G4: Are you getting one?

I can't wait to order the G4. My g3 has been close to perfection. I actually love the lg skin, rear buttons, removable SD... Things Sammy doesn't have. The camera and faster 64 bit CPU, and shipping with 5.1...all good! Lg is on the right path.

Ditto^^^

Not the industry, or well Samsung in general, just the high performance models.
Having sd slots on low end 4 - 16 gb devices make people think they are really buying a bargain 8 + 32gb device, until they quickly run out of app and games space.

I agree with LeoRex, though I probably have far less knowledge to base an opinion on, but this is just my opinion.

Sd cards are, or will become more of, a bottleneck. I noticed a difference when I took mine out of a Note 3, so never put one back. Could be because of the app storage as said ^^, and now that I understand more how apps have to work with cards.

I don't believe in cloud services for the major part either.
I will keep a little there, documents, pdf's, some photos, important notes only I can decipher.
I'm old enough not to want to rely on ota data retrieval from someone's servers. I'm sure many are like me.

So I'm thinking now also the Note 5 will not have an sd slot. They have 6 months longer than the S6 to tool up and make 128gb phones more reasonably priced. There are probably other factors for sure, materials maybe, and even newer chip technology.

I don't think the majority wants to spend much more than $700 on a large volume flagship phone anymore, I could be wrong. Having a removable battery will give people confidence in it's longevity.

They could charge a premium for extra spec, finishes and a new Edge of course. So a Note 5 64gb as tier one, then a 128gb, and maybe a larger one?

It's transition time folks, cards are dying out on premium phones and 128 gb phones are increasing, but at a price just now.

I know this is a G4 forum, but I don't think many on the Samsung Note forums can face this yet.

If the G4 holds up well in practice over the next few months, LG should probably continue to take over the removables mantle in the near future.

I think samsung is just reaching for higher margins. I am sure they looked at apple and saw making people pay $100 for each bump in storage and figured they could play that game too. Makes a lot of sense, for them. For consumers, not so much.

If the industry is moving away from SD cards, then why does Samsung (of all companies) still make them?
For now they're still used in cameras, where there's a lessened or absent formatting incompatibility - and other types of devices.

I think I might be the only lucky guy to have never had card failures since 2010. Prior to that year, I used to buy Kingston, PNY, etc. from Newegg and many of those cards ended up with read/write issues and failures. I learned my lesson and bought Sandisk and didn't see any more problems on that front. Only problems I've ever had with SD cards since then is when I've dropped my phone HARD and the card dismounted as a result. Nothing a quick readjust didn't fix. I think the problems many users have had with ANY cards have been because they've used their cards to store apps/app data to it. I've never done that which could be indicative of why I've never had problems since my Samsung Epic 4G. If they do move away from SD Cards....I won't purchase another device until they come with AT LEAST 128gb minimum internal storage at a fair price.

ditto, my kingstons (2, 8 and 16gb) and PNYs (2x 32gb) failed on me once each but never an issue with Sandisk.

I have no understanding why in this day and age we can't get a 4000mah battery, micro SD card, QuickCharge and wireless charging.

If you need to ask...

It's business why put all your eggs in one basket. Apple is amazing at it.

Why would anyone then upgrade?

First of all, my hat's off to LG for retaining Micro SD support AND a user-replaceable battery. Apparently those feature's aren't as "niche" as some would suggest or else a company like LG wouldn't provide them on their latest flagship.

If Samsung neuters the Note 5 by removing both Micro SD support and a user-replaceable battery then I'm deff going to grab a G4. The true value of those two features are almost intangible.

it'll be very interesting to see what direction they go with the Note 5. I always anticipate the Nexus release, but this year I'm more excited to see what Samsung does. I don't care much about SD, but really hope the keep the removable battery. I can care less about aesthetics (other than carrier branding on the front), but I wouldn't be shocked if it's similar to the S6 since they're selling extremely well. I'd only be satisfied if it's 3500+ should they seal it.

People will still buy new phones just look at Apple as they keep building the same phone and people keep upgrading. If somebody would make the best phone they would sell the most phones. That has to be good business.

But since most want some kind of upgrade with the next phone, putting everything in one phone wouldn't allow much to change in the next iteration except battery size and processor speed.

It's why upgrades are slowly released. For more long term sales and room to grow more and more.

I want to get one. Hopefully it won't be too much longer. I don't want to have to wait another 2 months. I wonder why LG doesn't release within a month after announcement like Samsung or HTC usually do. Last year there was close to a month and a half between the G3 announcement and release (at least in the US).

US always gets phones last. LG released it in Korea the day they announced it.

Samsung and HTC both announced their phones on 2015-03-01 and released them on 2015-04-10. That's 40 days.
LG announced the G4 on 2015-04-28 and will release it late May, early June. If the 2015-05-25 rumors are to believed, that's only 27 days. Hell, even if the "early June" becomes 2015-06-07, that would match the 40 days that Samsung and HTC did.

After reading Android Centrals review, I'll definitely be getting one. Was a really positive review and the phone doesn't seem to have any real weaknesses. From the screen to battery to camera to performance, it looks as good, or better than the competition and to have all those great aspects into one phone, I can't wait to get it.

Same here, their review just reinforced my desire to get my hands on one of these.

I had a PNY microsd card many years ago in my Galaxy S2 and it never failed. I popped the card in a new phone recently and it's still got my data on it. It's clearly a money issue. Even the jump from 16gb to 64gb is huge and they are making crazy margins

AC's review has really swayed me:
I think the red leather looks awesome - and it's replaceable
the battery has a good life - and it's replacable. batteries degrade after 12-18 months significantly so swapping it is a MAJOR bonus
sd card slot is handy to have - the fact they have 32gb as standard is awesome. All your OS and apps will easily fit on that, then can use SD card for photos, videos, offline maps etc. This means plentiful storage without forking out £150/$200+ extra
lag free UI is key feature. This is what annoys me on all Samsung devices. Dropped frames and lags ruin the experience. They remind you that the device was cookie cut together, rather than a smooth integrated one-machine

My only concern is the size of the device. I think the S6 is big enough so the G4 has to be ergonomically friendly. Can't wait to test it out in hand. The rear facing single speaker is gonna be mediocre next to the likes of the M9, so I guess if i get this it'll be time to invest in a bluetooth speaker.

Not that you shouldn't try out the in hand feel for yourself but honestly it has a .3 inch bigger screen in less than 2mm bigger footprint. LG has always done a great job of pack a big screen in a little device.
