My 2day in review........
Ok so i have been debating whether to wait or to be incremental in my approach as some good folks here have provided a nice balanced review of the G4.
However I'm confident probably down to my many devices owned and partly because of the few important upgrades on the G4 over the G3.
I'm trying to stick to The G3 to the G4 and doing this by memory as i have since sold the former.
So at this time i will cover the important things and state as such this is early for review when mentioning battery for example.
So lets start with what i think of the build....ok so i will be honest i was about to throw in the premium builds of say the M9 & S6 vs the G4 but I'm choosing not to. The reason being it throws up debates and its all personal preference. The build of the G4 is different over the G3 in terms of they have addressed the quality and i hear of metal infused so this may play its part in the solid construction this time round over the G3.
The corners are not as round and this some may find uncomfortable, me personally find it ok but its not that of the G3. The curve adds that comfort and helps with the overall feel & use. There is the leather backs but i cant comment on that as i have the diamond back on mine. I am happy with the build but bear in mind the design is very similar to that of the the G3, is that a negative you decide.
The Screen.....This is one where Lg is selling the quantum ips display and its succeeded in improving elements over the G3, like colour reproduction and brightness levels and i am going by memory but it is a step up over the washed out colours and dimness of the G3. But by no means saying the G3's is sub par now because of this new screen, I'm just pointing out the differences.
Performance....The 808 is solid and in my two days heavy use it hasn't missed a beat and ram management is great so far. The G3's 801 is still a performer so this one is if your a tech enthusiast that likes the latest and greatest. Otherwise the G3 is just as solid. Perhaps there is that extra oomph to the G4 over the G3 when extensively used for games etc but i would still the G3 is great with the 801.
Battery ok this is where i state early review but im averaging over the two days well past the 5hr screen on time, its very much like the G3 maybe slightly better but this one has so many variables tbh and throws up alot of debates. However the future is looking good, and its removable and we all know batteries do deteriorate. So non removable batteries wont diminish in two years or even three, but as yku approach 4 i would imagine the hold in charge will have drastically dropped. But who keeps a device that long lol anyway its handy for that swap out to full charge again. I have been using my Samsung adaptive fast charge and it works well, haven't timed but it was relatively quick from 8% to full in guesstimate 1 and a half hours maybe less hmm around that mark.
The UX4.0 has added in some handy features and like the smart controls, and i have always enjoyed the look and feel, I'm not a stock Android guy but don't like heavy bloat either and this has a nice look. However there are area's where you can see lack of thought like the tab view settings, cant remember the second tab but its scrolling where the others are neat. So a bit rushed and lacking in areas.
The Camera well this one is good and if you like to just pull your phone out your pocket and snap on Auto then feel confident as this will produce believe me. There is also a ton of features like raw support, pro mode, simple mode and has a nice ui.
The rear speaker oh how i loath lol spoilt by the M9 and boomsound lol but it is loud and rich in low end but its preference for me for speakers to be on the front.
Overal i very happy with the G4 and its a great device, but if you have the G3 then the G4 is not a huge jump, if that screen accuracy is important or camera then by all means upgrade.
Hope this helps, but as its stands right now i need some coffeeee
