LG G4 First Impressions & Pending Review

Nice follow up Duncan and is much appreciated.

I'm using a m8... and am wondering how it stacks up in all things. I do love the speakers on it, and it gets OK battery life and all but I have never been 100% ecstatic with it for 1 reason or another.

I've never owned a LG before and am pretty excited to get mine home.

The M8 is fantastic and has great developer support...

Viper Rom

Leedroid

With this the battery life supersedes the M9 until development on that progresses.

I happen to appreciate htc and what they produce. The build and boomsound speakers wow.

Yea in some area's they fall short but they have character that's for sure lol

Right now i think their heads are in a spin what with the M9+ E9+ & One Me, haha i can only find my reaction to be that of many chuckles (laughs).

But if the vibe is not there then I'm sure you'll find it with the G4.

Agree with you completely about the screen. Don't get me wrong, it's a great screen, but the brightness is definitely lacking just like it was on the G3. The situation is improved with the G4, and it's certainly not a deal breaker, but it is definitely much dinner than my S6. Great write-up Duncan, looking forward to your final thoughts.

100% agreed. The screen is improved from the G3 but it still is too dim for my liking. It is a very nice screen but having a Note 4 and S6 to compare it to, there just isn't a comparison. I like the bigger screen though and loving the leather back. Knock code is great and prefer the back buttons of the G4.

Like you I have the S6E to compare it to and whilst the G4's is great and I love the 5.5" display.

The screen on the S6 & Edge (being the same) minus the curve is the best I have seen to date.

Final Thoughts

Disclaimer...

We all have different models and things tweaked/removed by carrier, take into account also some may be effected by manufacturing defects or issues. This is my final thoughts on the device i have in front of me.

I can't rate this camera high enough and whilst the pro mode is aimed at the more advanced, the real time changes make it a breeze to use. Also automatic will have you covered in most conditions.

The battery for me has been consistent and hovering around the 4+ hours of screen on time.

The Ui isnt the best skin out there but way better than some, for me personally who is still stock, then that says I'm content with what i see.

I'm keeping this relatively short as you have no doubt done plenty of reading already.

But i just want to say that like the G3, the G4 has done alot right (improving the camera, processor, Screen) everything has been effortless and i refer the G4 as a cool breeze on a hot and sunny day.

So my G4 rating will be 8.5 just a mark and a bit off for personal dislikes.

Thanks for all of your input. So the big question.....if could only keep one, which would it be? S6E or G4?

Thanks and glad you all appreciate....erm erm Wow is that a tough question to answer..

S6E no wait the G4 erm no its the S6E or maybe its the G4 dam this is hard 😜

Glad i don't have to but honestly i would keep the G4...

Why well its a keeper and i mean if you want to hold onto a device for lets say 3 years then the G4 has you covered in many area's. The S6E may fall short due to not having removable battery (how well is the longevity of the battery only time will tell) but the G4 has that covered, we all like for whatever reasons Sd card Storage despite a 128gb s6 and Edge its preference for some.

But both are very very good devices, i just feel that the G4 has that longevity aspect is those areas mentioned.

Thanks for your honest review buddy!

I like Sammy.... I really do! They make a nice, solid device. But right now.... I can't ignore what LG has and is doing with its device(s). Their device has what I like, want and need! One day, I'll go back to Samsung but until then.... LG has my attention. :)

I think that's the way I'm leaning as well. The only things that might bring me back to the S6 are the display (in a class of its own), camera (still slightly better IMO), I love the build, and the speaker being on bottom. Also, I really do not like LG's UI compared to the version of Touchwiz implemented on the S6. Sammy really toned Touchwiz down and LG could stand to do the same. That said, I much prefer the in hand feel of the G4, bigger screen size, on screen buttons, volume buttons on back, leather, and of course, removable battery and microSD. Don't think I could choose one of these devices and not miss the other if I were to get rid of it. Guess I may be unlocking my AT&T S6 and use it on TMO alongside my S6 and 6 Plus.

The times they are a changin

So the G4 is lookin to be a high roller & heavy hitter.

Things rapidly shift though and many manufacturers are left with what to do next.

Competition is rising what with China OEM's flexing their muscle.

The result is the big guns LG, Samsung, HTC (I'm leaving out apple, as that's iOS and me likes Android lol) have to produce.

They know its becoming a challenge and the result is the G4, S6 & Edge and the M9, are all heavy hitters.

The latter having the weakest Camera & Htc knows now they have to up their game for the M10.

Lg has succeeded in producing a very fine device whilst keeping the plastic build. The G4 has that warm vibe like the M9 in a sense of having character (we all warm to that).

OK mobiles are material items but I'm referring to the humans that build and design and how that then reflects.

For me the G4 was a welcome gift, would I have purchased anyway?, probably and what draws me into the G series is time spent on details that matter. Camera, performance, battery endurance, ergonomics.

So what drew you to the G4?

I may be in the minority but I really like the LG software compared to Samsung. I've used the note 4 a while now and it always has hiccups. I still enjoy it but lollipop is a mess on the note. It's great on the g4. Great camera and also love the rear buttons. Battery could be better but not bad either.
