LG G4 H815 Android Marshmallow update rollout and initial impressions

Well, still nothing on my EUR H815.

Anyway, question to those who already have it: how are the permissions working for you?
Quite honestly it's the only thing that's making me anxious to update to Marshmallow as there're a couple of apps which I like but ask for too many unnecessary permissions.

That depends on the app.

Like what Dave Burke said, the new permissions work on apps compiled with the Android M SDK. Legacy apps compiled using an older SDK will behave as they did in Lollipop and earlier.

As such, the apps compiled with the new SDK won't experience any adverse effects when permissions are disabled. Older apps may not work well when some permissions are disabled, however.

Can you explain what Allow Peeking does a little more? Does that just mean that it will briefly show the white bar at the top of the screen when you get a notification (like it already does with messenger or hangouts)? Or is there another functionality? I know the other two options are already available in Lollipop as pictured in my screen grab.

Also, I noticed the lack of Quick Toggles in the screen grab with the notification shade pulled down. Do they still show by default when pulling down the notification shade, or is it a second swipe down to access now?

Yep. It's the white bar on the top. If you swipe down, it'll show all your notifications.

What's doze?

Doze is the name of a battery-saving feature in Marshmallow.

Simply put, when sensors detect that the phone is not being used for extended periods of time, like lying on a table while you're sleeping, the phone goes into deep-sleep mode. All unnecessary apps are put into their low-power state and only start back up after a few hours before shutting off again.

According to Google, this resulted in an increase in standby battery-life by several hours on a Nexus 9.

I got my LG G4 through the UK Insiders Campaign back in May.
Build Number: LMY47D
Software Version: VX10a-EUR-XX
Kernel Version: 3.10.49
Model: LG-H815

Im trying to update to Marshmallow via the LG Bridge, which has recognised my phone and recognised there is a Marshmallow update available.

However, its been stuck at "Preparing phone for update... 100%" and not moving!

Any way to get this update flashed on to my device, baring in mind I haven't rooted!

Cant believe I backed up & wiped my phone before I did this! argh.

Working now?

Same as before.

If you're expecting some of the features from the V10, you might wanna wait.

Given the marketing and how similar the G4 and V10 are to each other, I wouldn't be surprised if the G4 didn't get the added camera app features. If it did, then about the only difference between the two would be the size and the V10's secondary display. That would make it a hard sell while the G4 is still around. I could be surprised, but I'm not expecting any added features.

I'll need to try again.

But tried a couple of times the other night to no avail.

Guessing it's something to do with the firmware our "Insiders Campaign" pre-release phone came with...who knows?!

With the LG G4, there's a hidden feature called access lock which lets you turn on or off any permission for all the 3rd party apps.
Can you guys please check if it's still available in MM?

I got impatient waiting for my unlocked LG G4 in Wales, UK with a Three sim to get Marshmallow so I downloaded LG Bridge and the new software was installed start to finish in about thirty mins just now !!! So don't believe the phone when it says you have the latest OS. Go to LG site.

One thing that people might notice: in Marshmallow, the screen doesn't turn off automatically any more when you plug in the USB cable to charge the phone. I like it much better that way.

I checked LG bridge and nothing for the H815 EUR in the usa yet...

One thing on doze. Is it not supposed to come already enabled and if not, how do I enable it?

My phone is sitting on my desk for the past 20 minutes and I've just got a hangouts and whatsapp message come in on it. I thought these would be 'dozing' while I had the phone set down?

I'm pretty sure Doze does not turn on until the phone has been sleeping for 30 minutes. So it wouldn't doze after only 20 minutes.

If my phone is connected to lg bridge and I am in the process of updating and for some reason there is a connection error or an interruption. Would my phone be okay?
