LG G4 Stuck on boot, how can I get it out of it?

Joined this club a couple days ago, 505 as well. Has anyone actually been able to keep their phone on from freezing or no battery or whatever long enough to recover pictures? Tried freezing for a couple hours and still only worked for 2 minutes or so...have definitely learned the hard way to backup your junk.

Freezing worked for me. The trick is to leave it in the freezer while performing the backups (a possible pain, I know). Freezing it, then taking it out to work will allow it to warm up too much. Though, I guess it's also possible to be so damaged that any heat will expand and break the connection.

Victim of the Reboot today. Thanks to this board, I was able to back my data up. Stick the phone in the freezer for 30 to 40 mins. Turn the phone on and immediately place it on a icepack so the battery is touching it. This will keep the phone cool enough to run it for hours. You will have to plug it into a charger because the battery drains very fast. Apparently, the motherboard issue caused the phone to heat up and the reboot is the protective layer in the software to protect itself.

Hope this helps.

Well done sir. Good on ya.

Tried the freezer trick again and managed to recover all of my pictures, phone was on for about 20 minutes or so. If I can manage a full backup before Friday that'd be nice. The trick seems to be to put cold pressure on it by stacking stuff on it. It's a pain that I have to risk the whole thing by having to go to the homescreen to allow USB connection.

Just joined the club this morning. S/N: 510.

Left the phone to charge overnight, woke up to the boot screen. Wouldn't do anything else even after pulling off the battery and restarting multiple times.

Attempted a factory reset, but it still would hang after selecting the options.

Dropping by the LG service center in my area later to get it sorted. Disappointed.

Got my phone sorted at the local service center. Took 3 days to swap out the mainboard.

Apparently, its not an uncommon problem, the service stuff admitted that they get at least 1 a day.

What are the first three digits of the serial number for the replaced mainboard?

I joined this club last Sunday. 😢

I was able to perform back ups, etc. by just taking the back cover off and setting in front of a fan. After doing that took it to Best Buy where they claimed to have never heard of such an issue. Had to send it to LG to fix.

Question: when they install a new motherboard, does that change the serial number? Otherwise once it's "fixed" how would you know it's truly fixed?

Btw, mine is a 505 serial number too...

Sad to say but the bootloop has happened to me. Happened earlier today during lunch when I tried charging my phone and it restarted then bootloop. At the AT&T store as we speak hoping they will replace it. S/n 505

That is f*cked. I have had mine for about 9 months and it went on me after I installed Android 6. Have organised 'repair' with my phone carrier. I don't trust the phone now going by everyone's experience, however I REALLY do like the phone when it works.

Re: LG G4 Stuck on boot

The phone was just sitting on the table, without anything running (just idle), and I picked it up to take a picture, pressed on the power button in the back to open it up and got greeted with the "LG Life is Good" screen looping over and over again

Same exact thing just happened to mine 2nites ago. Took it in and they just shook their heads. Im so not happy. This is my 2nd phone in 8mos. First one had the display issues, eccessive heat, etc etc... Now this. The only thing you can really try is sf or dnld. Bricked. Replacement "in transit". It's a shame that LG didn't build the g4 with solid bones. It has some good features but you have to be able to use & see them, in order to enjoy them. The good definitely doesn't out way the bad. Well good luck! Sprint/Lg g4

The first one had the screen freezing issue now this one is in the "bootloop" I wasn't backed up either. I'm going to try the freezer trick and see if I can do a backup. Hopefully I'll be able to. I'm done with Lg. Thanks to everyone and android central for the comments n platform.

Please help...this has just happened to me. S/N 505...Tmobile sent me a new phone but I have over 1500 photos that are stuck on the frozen phone. I'm devastated....

Stick the phone in the freezer for half an hour or so. Then, reboot and run backup. I think most leave it in the freezer while running backup as well. Many have had success.

It may void your warranty, so proceed with caution. Also I don't think all models of the G4 are supported. You will need to do some more research on this. The link doesn't have complete info. Also see XDA.

Do I put it in the freezer while it's on? Or put the battery in once I pull the phone out of the freezer? Is condensation an issue...could it cause moisture and destroy my SD card?

You put it in the freezer, battery installed. After sitting 15-20 min, turn it on. Depending on how bad the problem is, you may be able to remove it during the backup process. Many have had to leave the phone in the freezer during the backup. I wouldn't worry a ton about condensation being a problem. There's a chance it could short something out, but I've yet to hear of it happening.

Thank you all...I was able to get all 1500+ photos. I had to stand with my phone in the freezer on a bag of meatballs...but it worked and that's all that matters. I was even able to uninstall my open apps such as FB, Snap, Email and IG. I still need to retrieve all my calendar information and can't figure out how to do it quickly. The most important was the photos...thank you all again.

When you get your phone replaced, I assume from a carrier, refuse to pay any fees and get expedited shipping. Point them to the fact that LG has admitted there's a bootloop problem. I haven't seen anyone successfully asking and receiving a replacement out of the "bad" range -but heck - give it a try. If you want to switch phones to something other than G4, contact retention's and ask for 100% trade in for the current selling price of the G4 listed by your carrier.

Glad you got your photos back! If you need help on syncing photos to Drive, Dropbox, etc. please ask.

Yeah this ticks me off, big time. My phone went through this two weeks ago, and now this morning wife's phone started. Ugh. I'm thinking this might just be my last LG phone I get for a while. 😢
