LG G4 Stuck on boot, how can I get it out of it?

My phone bricked about a month ago and in the first two weeks would turn on for a short time like an hour or so without me using the freezer method, it actually stayed on once for 3 hours even after the boot loop problem occurred without sticking it in the freezer.

After that I tried the freezer trick and the phone would turn on in the freezer for about 5 mins during the first week. Now it seems like no matter what I do, the G4 just won't seem to get past the boot screen. I've left the phone with the battery inside of it in the freezer for as short as 10 mins and as long as 2 hours to no avail. Should I keep trying or is the phone just too far gone?

Make sure you call first + (800) 243-0000 (you do not want to send your phone in only to be told in a week that it is not under warranty) . Explain the problem as the bootloop problem. They will ask for the serial number and will tell you if it is still under warranty or not. If it is not, you can ask for an estimated amount for fixing it.

Please post results of your conversation with LG, many others will want to K of if serial number 505s are still considered under warranty.

Yeah, sorry but that phone is done. Whether you go through your carrier for a referb or send it to LG for repairs, you're gonna have to get your device serviced. Or upgrade.

Do you know why it may have been working early on when I got the bootloop issue, and now just not turning on at all?

I know there's an overheating element on the motherboard, can't remember the specifics. Some are worse than others. Using the freezer trick, some have been able to save data. Others, their device is to far gone and the freezer trick has no effect.

If it is out of warranty and if they want to charge you for it, do not accept that response. Escalate to supervisor. Always be polite but firm. If you have other LG gear - TV, clothes washer, etc mention that. It is a manufacturing defect and there's no way you should be charged for their manufacturing error if out of warranty. But I bet if it's a 505 they'll just repair it no charge.

grr.. just spent 30 minutes writing this reply and accidentally clicked away. So writing this for the second time.

I just joined the bootloop party today. I had to register and join to add my experience. My G4 is s/n 505. I bought the phone on 6/7/2015 and today is 6/22/2016 so lucky me I am just passed the one year LG warranty. However (non sarcastic) lucky me, I happen to have verizon total equipment coverage. It is just by chance I have it since it is normally just on my wife's line, but last time we traded upgrades and in the process we ended up with TEC on both lines. I was planning to cancel it on my line but never got around to it (Woohoo laziness!)

Since I am passed the 1 year warranty I decided to try verizon first for the replacement. Below is my chat transcript with personal info redacted. You can see I asked about the replacement having the same issue but did not push it too hard. I will try to remember to post the replacement s/n number when I receive it.

Thank you for contacting the Verizon Wireless Chat Team. One of our skilled Chat Representatives will be with you in a moment.

Me: I do not see any signs of water damage and the indicator is unactived as pictured in that link

Me: there is no damage beyond what I would call normal wear as consistent with the pictures

xxxxx: Absolutely, the email I sent has all the info on it.
xxxxx: What questions?
Me: This issue appears to be a known manufacturing defect, is there a chance the replacement device may also have the same issue?
Me: here is a link describing the same issue
LG admits G4 bootloop problem is a hardware fault, will repair affected devices | Android Authority
xxxxx: Yes, there was an issue reported by LG with some of the serial numbers. It does not mean that every device will do the same thing.
xxxxx: The devices that are sent out have been tested for issues and those were removed.
xxxxx: Even if you had the certain ones, it definitely did not mean it was going to happen.
xxxxx: Also, LG sends out software updates to correct the issues.
Me: ok thank you, as long as I can rest assured I won't encounter the same issue after I am out of the warranty period
xxxxx: I can understand you being worried about that, the good news, no matter what happens you have coverage because you have total equipment coverage.
xxxxx: Lost/stolen and damaged devices are covered with deductible and malfunctions with no damage is not additional charge.
Me: but at some point I may decide not to continue with that coverage
xxxxx: Right now, you are out of the one year warranty, it was over on June 7th
xxxxx: Due to you have the insurance with extended warranty you are able to get a replacement right now.
Me:so if I did not total equipement coverage I would be out of luck for this issue?
xxxxx: I do not like saying it like that, but it would not be coverage. You could check into other options like directly with the manufacture but that is not 100%. I always keep this insurance on until it is time to get a new device. Then I just use the the device until I want a new one or it breaks down.
xxxxx: Some keep the same device for a long time and keep getting replacements if needed.
xxxxx: I need to process the order now.
xxxxx: I will come back if you have questions.
Me: well, either way as long as the replacement device has either been tested against this known issue or it is not within the effected serial numbers I will be happy with the replacement
Me: beyond coverage I also prefer not to worry about losing personal data due to this issue
xxxxx: I understand for sure
xxxxx: Do you use Verizon Cloud?
xxxxx: May I have your shipping address and email?
Me: and xxxxx I understand this is not a verizon issue, but an LG issue, so I appreciate your help
Me: my shipping address is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxx: Awww, you are sweet, you are more than welcome. I am happy to help all I can. :)
Me: my email is xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxx: Once I get this processed, FedEx will deliver the device tomorrow. Someone needs to be there.
Me: ok, someone will be home
xxxxx: Awesome, just a moment while processing.
xxxxx:xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxx: There is the order information, you will receive an email with tracking information and email with directions how to send back the defective one and more details on replacement.
xxxxx: I have completed the order and you are all set on my end. My goal was to resolve your concerns and provide the best customer service today, have I done that for you today? Or is there anything else I can do to make that happen?

Well, if your refurbished phone goes belly up send it to LG to get fixed instead of getting a refurbished phone that is a ticking time bomb. 99%chance that your refurbished phone will not have had the motherboard fixed.

Just make sure you do frequent backups so you won't lose too much if it goes to the great boot loop in the sky.

Better to skip the carrier/Asurion warranty process and deal directly with LG. Even if out of warranty. LG has a responsibility to consumers to their manufacturing erros.

Got my new phone from Verizon last night. S/N starts with 510. Interesting this is I had a blue G4 and that is what they say they sent me. However google seems to recognize it as silver. Not sure it matters but seems like my case no longer matches my phone. As a bonus it seems to have fixed a WIFI issue that I thought was my router as well.

My phone started the bootloop on Sunday night. I know that people are saying the issue was with phones made earlier on, but mine had a 511 serial number and it still bootlooped. My experience with Verizon was not as positive as yours, though I think I may be happier with the outcome of my situation. I initially called Verizon because I knew that sending my phone off to LG would take much more time. I was presented with 2 options being that my phone is less than 6 months old: Get a "like new" replacement from Verizon or send it to LG for repair. I originally chose the like new replacement, though I was a little leery about the replacement having the same issue. I voiced this concern to the rep I was speaking to and he all but assured me that it wouldn't happen (apparently he has a crystal ball). What I found interesting about this part of the conversation was that according to this rep, the bootloop issue has just started to be an problem within the last few weeks. I informed him that was not the case because a quick search of the Internet reveals that it has been a problem for some time and LG acknowledged it back in January. In any case, he tried to set me up with another phone and came back on the phone to tell me that they had no replacements with the black leather back cover, what other color would I like instead. I told him (fully intending to just switch out the backs when I got the replacement) and then he came back on the line to inform me they had no LG G4s in stock at all. I said, "Wow, all the stock is gone in just a few weeks of this being an issue!" (No, I am not sarcastic at all!) At this point, the rep told me I could switch to an S5 instead since there were no G4s to be had. I laughed at him and told him if I had wanted a Samsung, I would have purchased it in the first place. In any case, the only thing left to do was to send it off to LG for repair. I have been told that LG will repair the problem and return it to me within 7 to 10 days. According to my repair tracking, they just received it yesterday so I have a bit of a wait before I get my baby back. :(

Whatever you do, don't get it replaced by your carrier. It will most likely have the same defect. Instead, send it to LG if possible. They are finally putting in motherboards that don't have the defect. I just got my G4 back yesterday, and the whole process went smoothly. I have no complaints, and the phone is fixed.

This is good to hear! I am crossing my fingers there are no other problems with my phone once I get this repair and have my phone back in my hands.

My LG4 just died on Thurs June 23, right in the middle of a call. Tried to pull the battery and restart it, but got the endless LG boot loop, and was never able to get the phone to work again after trying everything recommended by the forums, with the exception of sticking it in the oven. I had one of the first issued phones manufactured (started with 505, manufactured in May). So I have had the phone for over a year with no problems. I tried calling LG, but since I purchased the phone through Verizon on a 2 year agreement, they told me that I needed to go under the exchange program that LG has with the big carriers specifically related to this problem for LG4's. I took the phone back to Verizon on Friday June 24, 2016, and asked them to look up the tech bulletin that LG issued. They did, and Verizon ordered me a new phone that should be at my house this evening, even though I am technically out of the standard 1 yr manufacturer warrenty. They are including a prepaid envelope for me to ship my dead phone back to them. So LG is covering the phones under a LG warrenty through the big carriers if you bought your phone from one of them. Make sure you tell them to look up a tech bulletin issued by LG on exchanging the phone under an extended LG warrenty, otherwise, the sales person will most likely tell you your phone is not covered or will make you do an exchange under any 3rd party insurance you may have purchased.

Re: LG G4 Stuck on boot, how can I get it out of if?

Verizon is now covering the LG4 phones that demonstrate the boot loop problem, even if it out of the 1 year manufacturer warrenty. Mine died on Thurs June 23 at work in the middle of a phone call, and I have had the phone 16 months. After trying everything recommended in the forums Thurs evening, I found the online petition that LG's response. I took the phone back to Verizon Sat June 25, 2016. Verizon looked up a technical bulleting issued on the LG 4's that list of serial numbers affected with the boot loop problem, confirmed that my phone's serial number was covered(serial no starts with 505 through 508), and promptly ordered me a new one to be shipped to my house this evening. I am to ship the old phone back in the return envelope. No fee's and no hassel. Make sure you tell the Verizon employee you deal with to look up a tech bulletin issued by LG on the LG 4. They need to reference that tech bulletin in order to exchange your phone.

Re: LG G4 Stuck on boot, how can I get it out of if?

Just to let everyone know, if you are experiencing this problem, the major carriers are exchanging the phones if you bought one under contract. LG issued a tech service bulletin sometime in late Jan/early Feb 2016. It list the serial numbers of the phones affected. I believe they start with 505 through 508. if your phone does experience the boot loop issue, and falls within the above number range, you can take it back to your carrier for an exchange. You will need to let them know that they will need to look up/reference a tech bulletin issued by LG in order to your phone to be replaced free of charge. I had my LG 4, serial number 505 for 16 months with no problems before it cratered on Thurs June 23. If your phone is still working, I don't know that they will exchange it even if you have one of the above serial numbers. But if it does stop working, you should be able to get it replaced for free if you purchased it through one of the big carriers.

So this just happened to me. Am I going to be able to recover anything from my phone?
