LG G4 This Phone is Garbage

I've had Sprint since before it was Sprint. I go all the way back to when I had a 2 way Nextel Phone / Service then Sprint took over.
So I can't say that I've had any issues with Nextel / Sprint in 15 years. I've had Motorola and Samsung, this is my first LG phone since being with my carrier and I still have to say that it sucks! I got a new phone and it's still terrible and I actually talked a few people out of this phone while I was at Sprint store for over an hour while they were "looking in to" my issues with the phone.

So you got a new phone and what is the problem with the new one?

I've been with Sprint for around 18 years and this is the best phone I have owned.

I just love the global response of this phone sucks. Makes me laugh. Bag phones are a part of the process sometimes. Just like bad TV's, cars or any of the millions of other items in this world that have technology built into them.

My new phone also shuts down and does an Android "App Optimizing" about 3-4 times a day then shuts down again. Sometimes it optimizes 20 apps sometimes is 18 apps other times it's 8 apps. I went back in to the Sprint store again yesterday and was told that the LG Specialist was at another location and to come back today. So I guess I got 2 duds in a row? Today my new LG is a paper weight with the LG logo frozen on the screen. It's been like this since I was able to get it to turn on this morning. I get that not every manufacturing process is quality guarantee or perfect but this is aggravating! I've never had these problems with any other device that I've had.

Did it do it when you first booted up in the store?

What is the need for the LG specialist? They should keep pulling phones out of the box until there is a good one.

They booted it up on the store so I'm assuming they thought it was okay since they let me walk out with it. I did give it another chance and should have played with it before I left. I was told yesterday that only this LG specialist can look at the new phone and that he'll have to be the one to order a new phone.

Have you seen this thread on another AC forum? http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...ooting-optimizing-apps-what-did-i-do-lol.html

EDIT: there are lots of good suggestions in that Nexus 6 thread! It sounds like quite a few N6 folks had this same issue. Please read through the thread, try out some of the suggestions, and let us know how you make out.

What apps are you installing? Are you rooting the phone? Are you trying to restore backed up apps/data?

Sounds like a dud electronics are not perfect I love the phone great piece of kit

I was a hardcore Galaxy fan but after trying both phones out, I liked the LG G4 better. I had a Galaxy S3 for almost 3 years and loved it so I was already sold on the S6 but enter the LG G4 and I had a decision to make! I mainly chose the G4 because of the camera and the slightly bigger display not to mention the leather back! But as an armature photographer and graphic designer, the camera won me over!

I certainly don't think the LG G4 is crap! Any machine can have issues but it is by no means "a crappy device!"

Have you tried hard resetting the phone yet since the issues started? Could be an app you installed that is misbehaving.

So did the LG specialist look at the phone?

So happy I found this forum/thread. Having very similar issues with my Sprint G4 as well. Worked just fine for the first 6 weeks or so....then the freezing, crashing and auto restarts started happening in clusters. Dropped calls as well. I heard it could have been some recently installed apps so I deleted a bunch which initially seemed to help, but today was the worst episode yet. Could not get it to restart after it crashed, then it went through an "app optimizing" procedure during a reboot....3 times! I read another article that said it could also be with how the smartcard feature interacts with some of the aftermarket apps and turning off that feature might actually help, but then why do I even own the phone if I can't use the features?

I was able to get it to reboot a few minutes ago, but it crashed again! So frustrating.

Forgot to mention the overheating as well. Not all the time, just sometimes, which is a little odd. Going to try and take it back to the shop where I purchased.

This is for another forum or thread, but don't get me started on Sprint. Switched from AT&T. The service is actually fine, but the way the company is doing business is a bit shady. I agreed in the store to one rate, but my first bill was nearly double! The store manager said it takes 1-2 billing cycles for negotiated credits and rates to come into effect, but this was AFTER I signed up!

I know it's a PITA. But a full backup with LG Backup, or something similar, followed by a factory reset (don't restore your backup yet) might tell a lot.

If you do a reset, and it keeps rebooting & crashing, then the odds are good there is a hardware problem of some sort. And I'd start the exchange/warranty process.

If, on the other hand, it's fine, then you've learned it's likely something with your apps. You might then start gradually reinstalling them.

Before a full reset, you could also reset the system's cache, and anything else like that you can think of. Stuff that is "non-destructive". If you have an SD card, try removing that first, just to see if anything changes for whatever reason.

Have you read through this thread (as mentioned in a previous post reply): http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...ooting-optimizing-apps-what-did-i-do-lol.html Lots of good suggestions.

Most likely, as you're getting the "app optimizing" thing (not normal behaviour) it's an issue with your phone software -- either an app (in which case doing the Safe Mode boot process should help diagnose and fix) or it's an issue with the "core" software (in which case a Factory Reset process should help.) If it's an app, then it's likely an app you've brought over from an old phone or just introduced -- if you just get another phone and do the same thing, you'll have the same problem.

As for the overheating issue, please read through the Heat Issues threads listed in the http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g4/544443-common-issues-solutions.html thread.

Won't even attempt to boot after I pull the card....see, it's my considered opinion that this is just a sign. A sign that I need to return the phone. The whole reason I got a new phone because my old one was slow (Sony TL). Now I miss it. It NEVER crashed like this. The processor was slow, but the thing was as reliable as a swiss watch.

Maybe I got a bad one, maybe not, but this phone should work great out of the box and I should not have to attempt to do all these gyrations to make it work LIKE IT'S SUPPOSE TO! lol That wasn't directed at you, just the cellphone gods. It should n't matter what or how many apps I put on it (it wasn't many, maybe 6-7. Had way more on my TL). I really thought about getting an IPhone, even though I really don't like them. Too restrictive. But my wife has had 3 and never had a problem like this.

Who am I kidding? I am an Android guy, not going to switch, but not a very good experience in my first step up to a "super" smartphone. Pretty disappointed.

I understand. It's not a perfect phone. Mine has its good days, and its less-than-good days, largely in terms of battery life.

If yours won't even boot without the SD card, then something has apparently gone horribly wrong. If you're going to return it anyhow, it may be worth trying a reset JUST to observe what happens. You're going to end up moving data around if going to a different device anyhow. And if it's still all messed up, then you can "sleep better" knowing the device was bad, and you can also tell tech support (or whoever) when they ask if you've done that.

Unfortunately, there are no perfect devices, and I know the G4's flaws better, because I own one and have spent a lot of time reading about it. Whatever alternative I'd consider (S6, upcoming Nexus, whatever) won't be perfect either, and will have its own set of drawbacks.

I'm not saying that this excuses the G4, or that another phone might not be better "overall". But it's an unfortunate reality that we have to decide what's important to us, and select a phone based on those criteria, and whether we can live with the issues that device may have :-\

If you're within your return period, and you think the G4 isn't the right pick for you, take it back. Don't get stuck with something you don't like for 2 years, or whatever! I decided to keep mine, and I'm hoping that future software developments will improve how it behaves. But there are times I miss the predictability of my old S3. Good luck!

If you exchanged it at the same Sprint store that you purchased it, it is always possible both were from the same manufacturing run, and both have the same defect or the same component that is defective.

This is what I'm hoping. I'm going to exchange mine for the second time and see what happens. Hopefully I'll get one from a different batch. None of the so called "fixes" solves the problem. None!

I haven't seen your post... What problems are you having?

I'm having the touch responsiveness issue. Also the freeze/lag from heat. All else is superb. I've been through the other forums and tried everything suggested. I love the phone otherwise but my issues are too frustrating to put up with.
