LG G4 TMobile USA Marshmallow update

Did a factory reset and downloaded the update again this time it worked.

I flashed the 20i build on TWRP... Stoked that LG uses the stock bootloader stuff now (fastboot, etc). No need to use those whacky tools anymore.

I did the install yesterday.
I hadn't done a hard reset yet because I was busy yesterday and need to have a working phone while I was out and about. (Yes, I understand that can cause "issues", Not my first Rodeo)
So, everything seemed really nice with just an "upgrade" UNTIL I wanted to play some music from my phone via Amazon Music and it won't read from my SD card. Not just the Amazon Prime stuff, but also the other music I copied to the SD card. I am doing a reset this morning to see if that fixes.
I'm not seeing in settings any changes showing the cool Marshmallow things like low power dream mode or other such things.

Anyone else use Amazon Prime music and an SD card?

I don't use Amazon, but I use Poweramp. I had to manually redirect the SD card in Poweramp's settings

I am getting my value out of the 99 bucks a year membership :)
I am going through the factory reset process now... Let's see if that fixes it.

I got the update over the air last week. Since then I have apps that won't open and I have updates to download, but when I try to update them, Google Playstore crashes. I am not even sure if I got the complete download (can't find Doze).

Received the update for my G4 on T-Mobile a few days ago. Experiences so far are quite good. Couple of comments for those still waiting:

  • Have to keep the phone on from 11p-4a to download Marshmallow. I usually turn off my phone at night, and this prevents the download.
  • When the update completed, I had a repetitive, annoying error message about every 3 seconds: android.process.media has stopped (I believe this was it). Searched for fixes, nothing worked. That was ok, because...
  • Before the update ran, I used LG Bridge to backup everything but contacts and calendar (I use DejaOffice and CompanionLink for Outlook for these). I expected little. My experience with Samsung's Kies was spotty at best, and a complete failure most times. I was SHOCKED that it actually worked! Restored my texts, my folders, all my apps, screens, everything! The only thing Bridge did not do was restore all of my email accounts and settings, a fairly easy fix. Kudos to LG Bridge!
  • Because of the error, I did a hard reset. Having gone through several updates with a few different phones, I highly recommend that you hard reset each update, at least with an LG.
  • It's a little early to be definitive, but I think the Doze and App Standby are working well. I keep my phone on my desk most days, and usually lose about 8% an hour. Today, I fully charged my phone and, after about 6 hours, it's at 86%. Had a few calls and used the browser a bit as well. I also went into App Standby and added lots of apps to the inactive list.
  • FYI, don't try using LG Bridge to get the update. Mine didn't work and based on search results, it apparently is a universal issue.
  • Now On Tap is interesting, but not something I believe will be particularly useful on a frequent basis.

Overall, Marshmallow seems modest in its changes, but if the battery management is as impactful as it seems to be, this update is a winner.

I saw some cautionary posts recommending that one remove their microSD cards before upgrading. I did that and it seems to have avoided issues. Just insert afterwards and make sure your music, camera, etc settings are restored to the card if that's where an app's data is stored.

Yes, working fine so far. As for the "power dream mode" - by which I assume you mean Doze and App Standby, they are basically automatic. Doze is always on, though I understand there are some devices that let you exclude certain apps. App Standby can be customized to include or exclude certain apps. On the G4, enter the developer mode (About Phone - Software - click Build option 7 times, then go into the Developer Options menu and scroll to the bottom. Select Inactive Apps, then select the apps you want to include/exclude from App Standby).

This site had a nice article on Doze, see this link.
As I posted elsewhere, I think the power saving is amazing so far. Increasing my usage about 40-50% over the past few days.
