LG G4 - Your thoughts?

Why can't there be a perfect phone?

Because the market has decided it wants thin phones. I really wish that a manufacturer went all-out with a phone twice as thick as the phones coming out now with a monster 7000+ mAh battery and all the hardware bells and whistles that could be packed in. The Saygus V2 is almost this, but not quite, also it's halfway to vaporware with their delays. If they could make another top-of-the-line hardware keyboard phone, I'd get it in a second, but that's not going to happen either.

Wouldn't the curved shape help prevent issues with the speaker?
Could be but the curved back has caused rocking when typing with the phone on the desk on my g2. Not sure if it will be a problem on the g4.

Thanks. That all makes sense. Frankly, I'd probably have an S6 right now if they hadn't gimped the battery. Going from 18 to 20 hours on my Z3 to 9 hours on an S6 is tough, even with the quick charge and wireless charging. Ugh. Why can't there be a perfect phone?
Depends on how you use your phone. My s6 can do 20 hours with about 5 hours SOT normally.

I'm really excited about the G4. To be honest, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the leaks, but after the reveal, I'm really liking what I'm seeing.

Looks to have a great screen and camera, nice sized battery, from every hands on video I've seen the phone looks super snappy and fast all throughout the UI. Nothing I can really point to and say 'oh I wish it had...'. Just looks like a really solid phone overall.

Here's hoping the battery life is good in real-world usage. If I read that the battery life is pretty good, then I'll I'll sell my Galaxy S6 and jump on it.

It's really impressed me.

Though this is a promo (so of course it's going to look great), I really liked this video of the G4 flying around on a drone over Sydney:

Looks pretty good to me!

What don't you like about the s6 that would make you drop basically a brand new phone which is supposedly better than the G4 in terms of ram, CPU,GPU,battery and screen?

Hmm few things:

- Battery life isn't good enough for me. I've tried various 'tweaks' and can't get it to a good spot.
- Inconsistent lag/stutter throughout the UI every now and then.
- Annoying Touchwiz bugs that my firmware has such as no auto-rotate in gallery app, can't disable/delete a bunch of apps, no alphabetical order for app drawer.

On paper the S6 is a spectacular phone, but using it I don't find it as great as it should be. Hoping I enjoy the G4 more.

I'm not sure what the deal is with yours.

Mine is the edge 64GB version with Sprint.

I can do alphabetical order for the app drawer if I want, the option is there.

My gallery does auto rotate with no issues.

There are many apps that can be disabled or removed.

Almost 3 weeks and so far no stutter or lag.

Battery is been surprisingly good, coming from the GS5 I thought this was going to be bad.
I'm happy to say that so far, it isn't.

But the LG G4 looks like a great phone, so go on.
Don't forget to let us know about it. Pros and cons, love and hate, that sort of stuff.

It's a great time to be an Android enthusiast!

I loved my G2 but only like my G3 so I am so sure that the G4 will offer enough of an improvement for me to pick one up. I've been looking seriously at the Nexus 6 so I'd love to see one of those quick comparisons that AC has been doing for other flagship devices.

I have I Nexus 6 great phone. But Verizon screwed up something on my account. So I have an upgrade ready to go so good chance will be upgrading

No option to sort alphabetically. Also notice how I'm on the first tab of the app drawer and there's a big gap with no icons? Touchwiz expects me to manually move the icons to the pages so I dont have giant glaring gaps... Pretty ridiculous.

See how there's a "rotate" button? In the image where it is faded out, I'm holding the phone in portrait. In the image where the rotate button is lit up, I'm holding the phone in landscape. So in order for the image to actually rotate, I have to hold the phone in landscape, let the rotate button light up then press that button on the screen, otherwise the image won't do anything. This is particularly annoying because the Samsung gallery app is the only app that the camera can go to when you press that little icon. You can't set another 3rd party gallery app as the default app for the camera to go to.

And before you say it, yes I have auto rotate on.

There are many apps that can be disabled or removed.

Mine can't. S Planner, Smart Manager, Samsung's calendar app, Samsung's "Internet" app, Samsung's music app etc can't be disabled or uninstalled on mine. They're there permanently.

Almost 3 weeks and so far no stutter or lag.

I can't say the same. 90% of the time there's no issues. It's fast, pretty smooth, flawless experience. But then every now and then, the notification shade will stutter, the keyboard will take a second or two to load up, the multitasker will take a second or two to load up, the camera app will definitely take longer than 0.7s to load up, the phone dialer takes an extra second to load up etc. Again, not all the time but here and there.

Also due to the phone's aggressive ram management, when I'm multitasking and going through a bunch of apps, the phone kills off apps I had just been using a few seconds before and it has to load the app up from the beginning again. Very annoying for when it kills off something like Chrome and it has to reload the webpage. Just means I have to wait for the phone to catch up and adds to the experience feeling slower than it should be. Hand on my heart, I feel my previous HTC One M8 was the faster phone around the UI. Navigating through the UI, opening apps, multitasking etc.

Battery is been surprisingly good, coming from the GS5 I thought this was going to be bad.
I'm happy to say that so far, it isn't.

This is the one that I'm struggling with most. Every day I take my phone off charge at 6am at 100% battery and by around 5pm I'm down to <10% and need to put it on charge or even earlier if I used it more during the day. I could almost excuse all the other issues I'm having with the phone if the battery life was decent for me, but it's not and I just can't put up with it. Fast charging and wireless charging is nice, but I'd rather a phone that lasts longer over having it charge faster.

I'm not trying to trash the phone. The S6 is one of the best phones I've ever used with an amazing screen and camera, but these issues (most notably the battery) just dont work well with me and I'd rather go to a different phone - hopefully one that doesn't have these issues.

But the LG G4 looks like a great phone, so go on.

Yeah absolutely a great time to be an android user. Lots of truly great options. Especially when it comes to phones with great screens and cameras.

I'll definitely post my opinions of the G4. What I like, what I dont like. I'm really quite pedantic about phones and I feel like I notice 'flaws' with phones more so than others. Who knows, I may end up not liking the G4 and may stick with the S6. Won't know till I try it.

What we have here between hero and stargate is a classic reminder that there can be drastically different phones depending on region. In fact, here in the US, the S6 is at best 4 completely different phones with slightly different software and some carriers also have added software for stuff like VoLTE and wifi calling. As a result, battery life can be wildly different and features can be missing or altered.

While in the past reviews were great at battery life tests as on your carrier or provider will only be at worst 5 or 10 percent different than what was tested. But today with all that has changed with just the US carriers alone, you can get drastically different results. Only this time the difference can be extreme. An S6 default out of the box on T-Mobile will only get half the SoT and only 2/3 the standby as on AT&T.

The same is going on with the m9 as well. So if you are on a carrier that you must use VoLTE like Sprint and Verizon, you'll lose about a good hour of SoT as compared to AT&T. Use wifi calling too on T-Mobile or Sprint? That's another loss of an hour of SoT.

Then have the bloggers talk about the S6 as if everybody is going to have the same results and it is no wonder people get confused. Again, this is also happening with the m9 and will happen with the G4 (at least in the US).

My best advice is to do what hero is doing and just try the phone you want. If it works great for you then keep it. But if like in hero's case a phone doesn't work out for you then try another.

I'd be surprised if the battery life difference among same phone - different carrier is so dramatic - but whatever. With the G4 it's safe to assume the phone CAN be rooted eventually, and with root - even when keeping the stock rom- the battery life can be extended significantly once all the useless bloatware and processes are removed. With the S6 you can't do this. And using custom roms that are optimized for extending battery life is another option, but that's certainly not for everyone. I plan on getting the international version and rooting as soon as available. I'll likely just stay with the stock rom.

On a lg g2 right now. Unfortunate that phones are so large now. But I like what the g4 has to offer. I'll have to see at the store whether the size is going to bother me. Camera is great. Battery capacity looks good. In years past everyone said android cameras were subpar. Now the s6 and g4 have great cameras. This year the emphasis is on big industrial design changes. No one is giving lg credit for pushing the curved design element. Lg decided to focus on the little things, I'm impressed they resisted making the g4 "super thin." it's getting ridiculous. If Samsung had made the s6 thicker the camera would not bulge as much and there would have been all day battery life. With the g4 quick charge 2.0 would have been nice but I guess I'll forego that for the awesome camera. I hope we in the US can get a wireless charging back without the flip case. I'm pretty excited about getting a g4.

I still use my G2 on weekends. It's still my favorite phone. Still. It's a solid little guy with a perfect size to carry around all day and the battery runs fine for the size. I carried the G3 on and off since launch (I recently sold it to help offset the cost of the iPhone 6+) and currently carry the iPhone 6+ during the week, but keep coming back to the G2 on weekends.

I hope the antenna has improved. I tried 2 G3s but couldnt get signal at home when my note 2 does.

The radio in my g3 is great re signal strength. It was 2-3 dBm lower than my g2 and 5-8 lower than my wife's iPhone. Will test against her new 6.
