LG G5 ain't so bad you know

I used to be quite against the G5; but now I do not mind it as much. However, even though I dislike the device, I never shun someone for buying it - it's their money, right? - and the phone obviously has merit.

People need to relax about the phones "they don't like." You dislike the G5? Great. It's your right dislike it if you want to; but you don't need to be broadcasting your hatred for it and blasting those who do like it and buy it.

Out of curiosity, why were you "against" the G5?
After blackberry, I used mostly Sammy's. GS2, GS3, GS4, Note 4......loved them all. Balked at the Note 5 because of non removable battery/SD card. Got impatient for something different & picked up a V10 cheap & loved it. Wanted something smaller so I got the G5. I seriously can't think of one thing I dislike. A couple things took a little getting used to, and the fact a class shield can't cover the entire front of the device, this thing kicks azz!
But..... I'll be taking a hard look at the Note 6 when it drops.

I saw it on a post on another forum. It wasn't here.

I think scratching your screen protector is something normal and shouldn't worry about it so much. But actually scratching the screen terrifies me! Lol. Or even the back. I always love having a pristine device.

Thanks for your input!

I haven't used screen protectors in years. The newer gorilla glass is very difficult to scratch.

Hi! Well, I guess I was initially against it - or not quite enthused - because of my own selfish reasons. I LOVE the back button placement on my G3, so I was really disappointed when the G5 did not sport that feature (I get that not a lot of people may agree here, but this was just something I had grown to love about the G3, and the G4 has this as well; so I had been really hoping that the G5 would keep that trend that was quite unique to the G series - at least, its recent "relatives"). Also, I preferred the V10 to the G5, as I thought the screen size coupled with the double display were just sick. I was also a bit disappointed that it seemed to be a smaller display, as I really think the 5.5" of my G3/the G4 was perfect for Netflix viewing, etc. But I just looked it up and the display of the G5 is apparently 5.3", so that's not a dealbreaker. For some reason, I thought it was smaller than that.

I also wasn't sure how I felt about the modules - but again, that's just my preference. But yeah, I've done some extra looking at the G5 and now I really can't say I'm "against' it anymore. It's just different and it's arguably the most interesting phone of 2016 (I saw an article that coined the G5 as such, and I agree): there is so much "controversy" around it; and the reviews and comments about it state that for sure.

I dunno, I can't say I'd buy it of yet without doing more research; but the phone itself certainly has merit and LG is known for making a unique and stand-out mobile brand, so we'll see! I hope the company and the phone itself does well, as LG, in my opinion, does an excellent job with their products and it helps that they are original in their design, hardware, etc.

Yeah, I recently got to review the models and:
-the gold and the pink models are flawless
-silver model isn't available in my country (probably due to Gapgate)
-issues with the bottom chin of Titan model(can solve it with the cover)
Other wise
The camera and software UI is awesome!

There are no color specific issues that I'm aware of

I'm really liking mine.

- Feels great in the hand. Don't understand some of the reviewers saying it doesn't "Feel premium".
- The lack of antenna bands gives a really clean seamless look. Once you've got used to the camera hump (Which only sticks out 1mm anyway), it looks lovely
- Lovely screen. Really clear, nice and bright, no issues with at all - and no light bleed even in a dark room.
- The size for me is pretty much perfect. Its big, but not unwieldy.
- Stupidly fast and smooth. I'm sure a lot of that is down to the SD820, but still. Yet to experience any lag or stutter in anything.
- LG UI - its alright you know! I was worried coming from stock (Nexus 5), but the LG UI isnt too different, and most of the extras they've put on are useful. I do miss the stock speed dial favourites in the phone app, and the fact you can't choose None as a default notification tone was silly (I had to download a 1-second of silence tone), but I've found more things i'm glad of, than dislike. Pleasant surprise.
- IR blaster and FM radio more useful than I expected
- Removable battery and SD card are obviously both great
- Fingerprint sensor is lightning fast, and very useful
- Call quality is several notches up from the Nexus 5 - really clear. I think it must be the ear speaker
- Also, the bottom firing speaker is really clear, and again, a significant upgrade for me. Not that I use the speaker much
- The battery charges insanely fast. if you are low, plug in for 20 mins, and you dont need to worry anymore

The one downside is the battery. I don't know how these people that claim to get 5 or 6 hours of SoT are doing it. For me, its about 2.5 hours. I do have bluetooth permanently on connected to my Huawei Watch, so maybe that doesnt help? Standby time is really good, but if you use a game, it drains fast. If anyone who has fantastic battery life wants to download Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, and play that for an hour, let me know what it does to your battery. Web browsing, facebook, and simple games its fine, but anything that taxes the graphics of the phone, in my experience, canes the battery. But then, in real world use its not a huge issue given you can replace the battery with a fresh one instantly, or it charges very quickly as I said before.

Cheers,
Kevin.

So no one has had any physical issues after the fact? Like chipping of the paint or scuffing because you have a case on it or something like that? That is my biggest concern. I have had many many devices over the years and I always kept them in 100% condition because of a case and screen protector - seeing how easily this device scratched worried me. I even saw a person scratch it with a fingernail :'(
Nope :) still as happy as day one...maybe happier

Yeah, I'm averaging about 4 hours SOT. Web browsing, music/podcast and lots of push notifications mostly. More times than not I'm on wifi. And yes, Bluetooth doesn't help. My G4 was much better than my old Nexus 5 with Bluetooth though, regarding battery. I haven't spent any time with Bluetooth on my G5.

Don't feel bad. My galaxy S7E got about 5 hours for SOT total. For having almost a third more battery!

I support this statement as I use Bluetooth with my Sony MDR-1ABT's daily and lose an extra 2-3% more on my daily commute to and from work. G4 is fantastic with BT!!

I know the G5 is new, but I'm surprised how great the battery life is on the G5. What with the smaller battery and a 2K display. I expected it to be like the G4. Turns out it's better.

I just got my second G5, and I'm going to discharge it completely today if I can! And have it charge over night to get the full charge and test it ... I really am having a hard time deciding which I like more.. G5 or S7E... They're both awesome... Very very awesome. I just did a benchmark and my G5 outdid my S7E with the exynos processor! I thought exynos was supposed to be faster? Hmm... I guess not.... If anyone is interested I can post both results

The 820 is a beast, no doubt. I haven't read any comparisons to the Exynos. How about that. Makes me sad most people don't know how great this phone is. The reviews make me sad too, but LG needs to do a better job getting retail units in the hands of the people that shape opinions and write reviews.

Well I can tell you that my first unit wasn't the greatest. It had some light bleed and the ends didn't align and there was a big lip and the worst thing of all was the horrible tray for the sim card. It was totally uneven and it left a huge groove in the device when I held it. Damn thing. Returned it in less than 6 hours and just got another one today, nearly two weeks later. This device has 0 of the issues before... So that's good. Now I can test it as God intended! Lol. Right now I have both cameras open on the G5 and the S7E and I'm having so much fun comparing the two shots!

I'm glad the Gods smiled on you this time. ;) Also, I'm so happy with my G5, every so often I forget that LG has quality control issues. Glad you gotta good unit!

Yeah. But still, it doesn't feel as premium in the hand as the S7E... And the screen is smaller... God! Why! Why God why! The G5 is such an awesome awesome camera! It's literally the only thing that's swaying me towards it! I've always been a fan of bigger phones.... Either way, I'm going to try and enjoy my g5 until I make a final decision

If you want a snapdragon 820 and a removable battery with support of a major carrier (at least in the USA)... you have ONLY ONE CHOICE, the LG-G5. Thankfully its a good choice and the G5 does a LOT of things right along the way. I have a V10 but I probably would be just as happy with a G5.

Props to LG for going out on a limb, going against the grain and giving the end user the choice of a removable battery.

Was at Verizon today....spent some time with the 10 display. Build quality is nice, however it didn't feel any more metal like than the LG G5. Not that I have a problem that on either phone but a big fuss has been made over that on the G5. I found the screens similar and the slightly smaller screen of the 10 was not a noticeable difference. I felt that the G5 UI was a little snappier. I didn't get to check out the sound but I'm sure the 10 is better based on the the way it's configured. I like the camera features better on the G5. It is nice that 10 ten lets you manage the memory. Overall I like the 10 but I still like the G5 better. Of course the G5 also had the removable battery edge. I was thinking of getting the 10 as a second phone but I'm still on the fence. Truthfully the phone I would really like to have that I tried out for a week was the Nexus 6P. It was a little too big and didn't support some of the Verizon features. I also would prefer that it had expandable memory.

I've been mostly a Sammy guy. S2, S3, S4, Note 4. I skipped the Note 5 due to the lack of removal media & battery. Got bored with the N4 and picked up a V10 cheap. Awesome device. Incredibly quick & responsive. Hated the volume rocker above & below the power button. Wasn't wild about how small the 2nd screen is, no LED notifications & marshmallow nowhere in sight. Ended up with the G5 and I love it. Moving the volume rocker to the side was huge, IMHO. The G5 has everything the V10 has & then some. Definitely the best flagship device on the market, again IMHO.
I'll be taking a good hard look at the G-Note 6 when it drops though, that's for sure.
