LG G6 a flop? Low sales?

LG wanted to copy Samsung but didn't copy the big advertising budget piece of things. G6 is a very good phone, but if you don't advertise and don't do a better job with quality control, they're going to need the V30 and the G7 to really be solid to restore confidence in the eyes of some consumers.

I wish people stop saying LG is copying Samsung. LG G6 came out several weeks BEFORE the Samsung S8 and was the first phone with "bezel less display" if you would.

However I do agree with you. Samsung nailed it with their advertisement. LG can't match Samsung's marketing budget and brand awareness. Which is a shame.

Who did LG copy? Haha

Re: What a shocker.

It's got good Desiree's, bit design wise and feature wise, it can't match the Galaxy S8 And the upcoming pixel phone.

But its also alot cheaper and probably one of the most comfortable phones to hold on the market.

design is SOOO subjective. I know many people, not millions or even thousands.. haha but I personally know many people that prefer what LG did over what Samsung did, design wise.

I'm not talking about designs here.

Samsung copied parts of the Apple style philosophy of building mindshare with consumers (especially with the old ad campaigns) and actually backed it up with some very good devices, starting with the Galaxy S2. If that phone didn't sell as well as it did, Samsung couldn't have had the chops especially in the US market to go to the carriers and cut out the variant system they did with the Galaxy S and S2...the S3 was the first model that had 1 inconic (consistent) design and one targeted focus. Added on top of that the success of the Note line and Sammy was off to the races.

So what mindshare does LG have with consumers? Ask the right people and they'll tell you bootloops and QC issues that hit the G3, G4, V10, G5, V20 and the G6 to some degree.

I got tired of hearing people market the G6 as the best alternative to the S8 this year. At time of launch, maybe. If this was in 2010, maybe that could work. But in 2017? Hell no. Outside of the wide angle lens (and there is no marketing to push that as a killer feature), Joe average has no reason to buy a G6. They're giving away the G6 and people have no reason to try it.

They didn't market the V20 and they didn't market the G6. Who is LG's target market? This is coming from a former G4 and current V20 owner and someone who likes the G6.

Actually, it doesn't sound like you like the G6. But I digress. No reason to buy the G6? How is that? I can't stand the FPS location on the S8 and I can't stand a curved screen. I use tempered glass protectors and they go EASY on this beast. And I love the feel of the G6 in my hand. I love the toughness of the G6 (IP68 and military grade testing). And yes, the wide angle lenses (front and rear) are peerless. The metal/glass build of the G6 is beautiful too. SD 821 is plenty fast. And ever since my G2, I love the double knock on/off. It's second nature to me. Price being equal I still take the G6.

Me not liking the LG's marketing strategy is separate from me liking the phone. In fact, I can actually point you to a thread on Windows Central where I post more frequently where I was debating purchasing a G6 for a few weeks (got a V20 for a killer price). In fact, having used the V20, I'm salivating to see the updates sensors in the G6 and V30 in person, but I digress...

See, the stuff you talked about isn't in an ad. Those are personal reasons I'm sure others could relate to. Look at the old Apple and Samsung ads that highlighted how you can use a phones flagship features on a daily basis. I cannot tell you how many times I drop jaws with the wide angle lens on the V20. This is a killer and unique feature as only LG has gone the wide angle route in the dual camera game.

People don't buy phones unless they have good reasons why... practical and useful reasons to them. LG has some of the best audio and camera chops in Android that the average consumer doesn't know about. Why aren't they highlighting these things?

The thread essentially asked why the phone is a flop sales wise...phone itself it a very good product. It hasn't been marketed well as one of the big reasons for sagging sales, IMO.

1. st everyone copies everyone not just in mobile industry and who cares about that.

2. You actually put the G6 in 2010 ? Srsly ?

3. You need commercial to buy phone ? Thats for me like saying you need church to find or connect with god. Pure bull**** all you see on stupid commercials most of the time at least is the design of the phones so no1 cares about that.

4. Ever saw a commercial of lamborghini ? Probably not u know why ? Cuz CEO of lamborghini said that people who can afford lambo don't sit at home watching TV.

5. You want great commercial of G6 youtube -> lg g6 godlberg ( and enjoy the masterpiece and p.s. yeah any time )

6. Samsung i hate curved screen it's the biggest pointless **** i ever saw in mobile industry like woow it blinks when you have a call, message and ****. But who the f*** puts his phone placed on screen and why, i hate their touchwiz, i hate their crappy screens that crack when you put only a finger on them, s8/+ looks terrible live, and i can tell you million things i don't like on their phones but hey, everyone buys what they like i love samsung as company al my TVs in house are samsungs, butni would never buy their phone, just don't like them.

7. You won't know how good is G6 until you buy it, it's probably their best phone they made ever since the G2 and thats why i bought it..

8. Sp821 not good enough ? do you buy new idk ford mustang and next year buy new model, same with pc, and sh*it like that. Most of people don't even use 40% of the things phone can do.

9. P.s. idk phone does not overheat like at all, it has fast charge, beautiful camera, ip68, fingerprint, lg uix is beautiful, beautiful huge screen, sot up to 7h, tons of features and so far no problems at all.. And design even if its ugly who cares i bought the phone to serve me, not to look good to me.

See, my argument is not based on me as an individual consumer. I've been using mobile phones since 2003, with my first phone being a Siemens C45 and my first high end phone being a Nokia 7210. I know what I want when I buy a phone.

LG isn't selling phones just to me or to you for that matter. They need to improve their marketshare and mindshare to sell to a ton of people. This is what Samsung did. I was using phones when Samsung was hit and miss in the market (D500 and D600 - I owned and loved this one - were awesome feature phones and the Omnia series was a very good smartphone).

My point is still the same - LG lacks a clear market strategy. And yes, I put the G6 in 2010 because gone are the days where you can sell a flagship phone merely on the merit of a great package only. That worked in those days, but things are different. In a time where everyone can produce damn good hardware, OEMs need a clear reason to for the average consumer to buy their phone over Apple's and other Android makers. Only Samsung has an easy to discern strategy in the Android space. After them, maybe Google with the Pixel line and Huawei and Xiaomi and OnePlus.

I don't see LG as copying Samsung at all but nor do I see Samsung's advantage as being primarily due to budget and brand awareness - the S8 offers a faster processor, twice as much storage (at least in the UK and crucially that attention grabbing AMOLED with minimal bezels which makes it stand out in the shop all for a similar price to the G6.

When LG announced a slightly better specced 'plus' model I thought that made a lot of sense, with a slight bump in the specs and a drop in price it would likely compete better with the S8. The most interest I've seen in the LG G6 in the UK is on the higher specced grey import models which can be had in some cases for almost half the UK price. I'm well familiar with the current range of handsets and wouldn't consider a local G6 however would certainly have done so if it was the better specced variant with more memory and the Quad DAC at a reasonable price.

Actually, I don't disagree with you. I was the 2nd post to this thread and I gave the reason of needing more/better advertising. So we probably agree in principle.

I think the Samsung revolution started with S2. It's not all marketing.

Honestly the last model of samsung that i actually liked was the s3, and that was dope phone, from lg it was the g2, but lg is finding their way back slowly... Look up the htc everyone i know who has the htc are super satisfied with it. But they financial stats aren't fine aswell. And the huawei damn i remember back in the days when i saw the y520 that was like the biggest smartphone crap i ever saw. And nowdays they put the companies like lg, sony, htc in the shadow. I mean i used to laugh at their phones but today idk brother has the honor 8 and the phone is amazing. If i didn't bought g6, since iphone 7 was too expensive, i would definetly go for the p10 or maybe the honor 9.

Both Samsung and LG had problems. Samsung with the Note 7 fiasco and LG with the bootloop fiasco. It's just that Samsung handled the problem better. Samsung took a big hit and just recalled the Note 7 while LG users had problems claiming warranty.
