LG G6 Reviews & Comparisons

Last One, For Fun. - S8+ LGG6 Pixel XL

This comparison is for fun.. I think it can go either way.. some of the reasoning is more subjective but hey.. haha why not?

I'm just very content knowing this is one of the best, even if most people will automatically place this as the underdog in any given fight.

That was a nice comparison video and she is honest about her personal preference in a couple of the shots. These phones are nice. Manual mode changes the game for the S8 and G6 though.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

The S6 has one of the best, if not the best, camera in any samsung phone. It's a beast.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

It seems like it would be nice to be able to turn off the noise reduction for certain situations like still shots. Maybe there's a way to do it or maybe the noise filter isn't as aggressive in some capture modes.

But I can live with a little bit of barely noticeable digital fuzziness in exchange for the superior low light performance.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

S7 camera is better than the S6, primarily in low light or with manual settings. I say that from experience, S8 looks like a downgrade for sure.

I wonder if any of these were shot in RAW? I know the average person doesn't do that but I do.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

My S7 takes sharper pictures than ANY of the photos I looked at on this forum, in the S8 photos thread. Don't know if the photos posted here lost something "in the translation" when uploaded to the forum, but they all are "softer" than when I look at my photos on the same computer screen, using google photos which isn't even set to save the original quality photos from my phone. I'd be pissed if I bought a replacement for my S7 and took a downgrade on the camera. Just got back from a trip to Arches and Monument Valley and have reviewed hundreds of photos taken with 2 S7's and a Nikon 5300 and another camera and the S7's photos are unbelievably colorful, focused, and SHARP.

The photos from the S7's were so good, that I only used my Nikon with the 70-300 mm lens. I saw no upside to switching out lenses for wider shots. I relied on our two S7's instead and am happy with the results.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

I haven't even watched the video but I'm willing to bet the s6 was the best? I've had every Galaxy S from the s2 onward and found the s6 the best by far. Maybe not as fast as the s7/s8 but picture quality were definitley the best. The megapixel drop after that definitely led to a loss of detail

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

Wow those are some serious issues. Looks like the night photos are where it excels though

for general full day light photos, there seems to only be minor changes is quality and clarity but as soon as we move into dark rooms, that's when the S8 and S7 pull alway and you definitely notice some differences. That was a really cool video to watch! Thanks for posting Jeremia :)

The 'over smoothing' I÷ something I haven't heard about yet. Will see if other report the same thing.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

Yeah kind of weird. I held my s8 close up to a plants leaf that had a lot of detail and I took a picture and it captured all of the detail and none of the sharpening like what the article showed with the plant. No blurriness and all fine detail was shown. weird....

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

Yeah I'm not sure what y'all are talking about. In terms of detail, vibrancy and features, this is the best smartphone camera I've ever used.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

Perhaps, but everything is relative and unless you have seen other phones photos you won't really know which one is best

I found equal number of Youtube test videos that all come to a different conclusion. There is no way you can take one of them and make it the standard. That's silly.

For instance, take a look at these taken by Alex Dobie and tell me the S8 doesn't take stunning photos.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

The photos uploaded on the S8/S8+ photo thread appear to be compressed. The photos I've attached do not appear to be as clear and detailed as the actual photo, so there looks to be some compression involved. I don't think those pics could be used as a judgement of actual photo quality unless someone linked it from another place that did not compress the photo, which some did.

Re: S8 vs S7 vs S6 vs S5 - Camera (surprising)

The video isn't really talking bad about the camera, it's talking bad about the post processing and the noise reduction it uses. Best way it's to compare the Galaxy S6 to the Galaxy S8. The Galaxy S8 may take even better pictures, but if a lot of noise reduction is applied in post processing, it would remove a lot of the details. It removes noise, but it also removes details.

Best way, take a regular and RAW image and compare the differences. The RAW images won't have any of the Samsung post processing and you can see how the GS8 camera does. Maybe some slight adjustments needs to be made to the RAW file.

I would do it, but I have a Note 4
