LG Nexus 4 or wait for the Asus Padfone 2?

According to Engadget... The Padphone2 will have LTE, but I agree with everyone else... if the phone is not picked up by a US carrier. It wont be useful. Plus it definitly wont have LTE in the unlocked version. and they made it sound like it was only a package deal with the phone and tablet. But Wow... it looked very nice and fast... But i guarantee the LG Nexus 4 will be just as nice with easier accesibility. Plus you know you will always get the updates.

Agreed; I would love a Nexus Padfone. But didn't they say in the demo for the original Padfone that it's compatible with the Transformer keyboard docks and such? I wonder if that's still applicable with the Padfone 2.

Unfortunately doesn't look like it. If you scour the reviews and photo galleries, you'll find a few pics of the bottom edge of the tablet portion of the padfone 2 and the only connector looks to be an hdmi out port. No Asus proprietary connector, and no keyboard dock latches like on the original padfone and transformer series.

LG to me is garbage... Their hardware has never impressed me and I have seen a lot of broken LG products.
Now giving them the benefit of the doubt that Google is standing by a Nexus device that means that it should be solid hardware. (should be)

Asus on the other had has always been top of the line hardware. In building computers if you want quality parts that you don't have to RMA
you just get the right working parts time after time then Asus has always been the way to go. They have also proved themselves in the
Android market with tablets. Google recognized this by giving them the Nexus 7 to produce and they did a great job on this.
Asus also has a history of unlocking their tablets, their UI is close to stock, and you will always find support for ROMs if there is demand for the device.

Now if you consider the phones they are almost the same phone in the specs and both of their batteries are not removable.
But on a good not the ASUS Pad has a 5000 mAh battery to backup the phones battery. Other than that they pretty much are
the same as the GS3, LG Optimus G, and HTC One X+.

As far as availability in the US we know that both will be available as GSM which means you can use it on AT&T and T-Mobile.
If you are looking for it on VZW or Sprint then you are in for modification to hardware for the CDMA. The the only good thing
about Sprint is they will bend over backwards to get a high profile phone, so any nexus is almost guaranteed to be on Sprint.
VZW is going to want to lock the Nexus down again and Google might have an issue with it this time that will still be up in the
air and until they announce it I wouldn't be willing to bet money either way. As far as ASUS Sprint and VZW will probably not
get this phone.

Normally if you want a Nexus it because its unlocked. If that is the case and you are not on VZW then either one is a good option.
If you are on VZW then Nexus is the only one that will be unlockable. The other option is to go with a Dev or unlocked phone and
the only two out there for VZW, Nexus and SG3 Dev.

In the end it is not a question as to which phone to get and wait for as to what phone you can use. Depending on where you are
in the world and what networks are available to you determines what phone is right for you. You just have to remember almost any
phone will be able to be rooted in the end and you don't have to load a new ROM on it to unlock all the things you think you want.
There are ways to do it without loading a new ROM.

ignore the tablet part of it, the actual phone looks very nice.

I agree, the phone is the part I like about the padphone 2. My wish would be for this phone to be a standalone nexus phone sold on the play store. I like the LG nexus but I like the looks of the Padphone 2 (stand alone phone) better. They should sell the tablet dock separately, that's the mistake they're making IMO.

Well, that's a disappointment. In fact, before the official announcement, I was also hoping the tablet could dual-boot to a desktop OS. That way the device would function as a phone, tablet, AND laptop. Oh well.

I would like primarily for Asus to make a Nexus phone based on the PadFone 2, failing that I would still consider a PadFone 2, probably without the dock (although a great forward thinking device not needed by me personally) with LTE onboard and available in the UK.

I have always liked Asus devices, I love my Nexus 7, plus generally they have been quick to update devices to the latest Android OS. So if my dream phone the Nexus PadFone by Asus does not come to fruition I may still consider this phone over the new Nexus. But that decision will have to wait until October 29th when the Nexus device(s) will hopefully be released and we can then compare real specs as opposed to speculated specs that we have currently been doing.
:p

Your a lunatic if you think the Padfone isn't a great phone. Just because it has ICS doesn't mean they won't upgrade it. Grow up..

I really like the idea of a padphone. Been tossing around the pros lately in my mind and would love to play with one of these. Hope it catches on and comes to the US
