LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T hands-on (updated)

Cool. I have to say this has caught my attention and with the S4 32GB having not arrived yet I now have time to consider it. That said I don't have much experience with LG/AT&T software update history, will we see 4.2.2 or 4.3 and if so how long until we do. Sure it doesn't launch until May 10th but so what, Samsung was able to put 4.2.2 on the S4 at launch and LG should have as well.

The phone looks great to me. I'm not too concerned with LG's update history seeing as though all of the OEM's have consented to Google's request to update their devices with the newest software in a timely manner. The phones seems beastly. I really like it. I also like the fact that it will have a notification light around the home button. The screen is supposed to be killer too. Can't wait to play with one.

I felt the notification LED around the home button was novel approach and kind of cool and user changeable as well. Consenting to Googles update policy is one thing, doing so is another. The only part that bugs me is LG is making the Nexus 4 with 4.2.2 so they have access to the code and hands on experience as well, I mean are their engineers doing nothing with it in terms of look at what they should/could do?

Also they just put 4.2.1 out on the Optimus G in March (I think) and that launched in November 2012 on AT&T so that is 4 months and if LG can continue that rate its pretty good delivery. The real kick in the nuts so to speak is AT&T, they can and likely will hold things up but this is an exclusive so they may want to get 4.2.1 or 4.2.2 out the door in say September to make another push for sales, or LG may want that just to push sales again as the Note 3 will likely come along in November.

For me I may just purchase this at full retail (depending on its price point) and then use my upgrade later on if I am not as thrilled. Need to see some reviews first based on users. I have heard concerns about overheating while playing games causing the screen to go out and then I have heard reviewers say for gaming its great with no mention of overheating.

Perhaps its a software bug they need to address in a firmware update.

Definately a choice to consider .. But na gtc one or dna is what i want.

The DNA is out, but you won't see the HTC One on Verizon. Maybe an updated DNA 2 but it won't look like the HTC One and since HTC has already said the HTC One is their ONLY flagship device this year well that doesn't bode well for Verizon users.

You base this statement on what evidence?

Well I base it on 15+ years as a Verizon customer who seeks specialty versions of phones for them, which means you will see a DNA2 or something like it come along, there is rumors of a Butterfly2 already. Either Verizon or HTC (forget which) posted it was not coming but quickly took it down. Now that could be because it may be coming, it wasn't supposed to be commented on or its not and Verizon "does not discuss their future device plans" or something along those lines.

More to the point, I base it on the rumors, opinions of many on the net and ultimately that unless HTC is willing to design or accomodate Verizon in some huge way it likely won't happen. Of course pigs do fly, drive cars and talk (see Max the pig on Geico).

I guess we will see. It makes no sense to me that the One is not on Verizon but Verizon does what they want even more than the other carriers. They have the network, they know it, and they take advantage of it to the hilt.
Verizon has been around for just 15 years btw and they sucked in the beginning. I was traveling alot as a consultant then and played hell getting and receiving calls in different cities.
If there were two Android phones I would want on Verizon it's the Nexus 4 and the LG Optimus G Pro. Either would cause me to dump my Verizon Note 2. I'm even considering getting the LG on AT&T although I swore I would never use them again after going back to Verizon when they got the iPhone.

I just moved to ATT after 15 years on Verizon, while it may not be perfect I actually found (in my market anyways) that the 4G HSDPA+ is faster than Verizon's LTE by almost double the speeds here. I can't imagine what the LTE is going to be like when I test it out tomorrow at work.

I'll probably go ahead and give it a try. Never thought I would go back to AT&T at all much less for an Android phone.

LG said at the launch event that 4.2.2 is coming shortly btw.

I also switched to AT&T from Verizon and find the speeds are very fast.
So far enjoying the new LG, exchanged the S4 on Friday.

I just left AT&T and got My hands on this device.
Umm. This IS going to be my first android device.
S4 and HTC One are Great. But I like this More
Screen is amazing. Wow.

Just picked it up myself this morning. Also have the S4 and still need to sell my Optimus G. It's good to have choices.

The Android Central reviewer says he gets great AT&T service in New York City which is where I had alot of trouble with AT&T. Also San Francisco.

So I have been living with the S4 for a few days and I am still torn between the LG OG Pro and S4 so I have until the 25th to exchange it. Just not sure I did or didn't make the right choice. What I would like is CM10.1 on the OG Pro :)

I know what you mean. My S4 is sitting on the dresser. The only thing I like better is the TV app. Its a great phone also though. I think the OG Pro is smoother though. A few times I like the smaller 5 in screen but every time I open a movie or game love the 5.5
