LG Optimus S (LS670) Maintenance Release 2/7/11

i'm just waiting on it to incorporated to a rom, then i'll get it that way. and i'm in no hurry.

I'm guessing that probably won't happen in its entirety, since the radio portion of VC cannot be flashed via custom recovery. Like V9, that will have to be installed as an update through the stock ROM and update. The worse part, I'm guessing, is that the new ROMs/kernels will be based on VC, and will not run correctly against V9. So if you want to stay current, better follow the discussions on how to revert to stock/standard recovery, update via LG updater, re-root, and re-custom recovery.

And while it isn't completely pain free, the process is really well described in the other thread I posted to above (over in the rom section)

Edit: wait... don't let the OTA update happen... do it via the LG tool... otherwise you're out of luck at this point...

I am updating via LG updater. Its stuck at 36 minutes and not responding. Phone says do not disconnect. Not sure what to do.

It has 4 stages: Analysis, Download, Update and Complete.

It downloaded 94 Mbs at the download stage and is now stuck at Update stage. 94mb is to high size for an update. It having a feeling that its flashing entire rom. I just hope my data is intact.

Should I just restart the phone?

any way to get the "system updates' out of my notifications bar? i dont want someone to hit it and eff my phone up.

Is there any way to download the LG update to my computer, but not have it install right away to the phone? I have the LG update tool installed, and it seems the only way to get the update is to connect my phone up and let the update tool run.

Also, if I do it this way, will the request to update my phone via the OTA download disappear, or do I have to manually intervene...perhaps by deleting the zip file?

Thanks

Awesome info guys. Thank you. I just asked all these questions somewhere else :( on a similar thread.

I'm rooted and I keep getting the update reminder. Is there a way to stop the reminder from popping up all the time?

I'm actually thinkiig about unrooting and wiping my phone clean and starting over from scratch. At this point what is the best way for me to do this? I don't really have anything on my phone that needs backed up other than camera photo's. The apps I can redownload.

So you're saying that the Sprint maintenance update enables jit on the Optimus S?

If so I wonder why that isn't being talked about more around here?

Will some of you taht have updated to the new release run some benchmarking? Are your phones still scoring in the 400's? IF Jit is enabled shouldn't they be scoring signifcantly higher?

This is VCRom version 006 with JIT enabled. The extremely high scores that were reported before were due to Quadrant making assumptions about Stagefreight.

EDIT - So it also had hardware acceleration enabled, I forgot about enabling that.

Thanks but I'm kind of wondering about those that have the stock rom and have installed the most recent software push. People are saying jit is enabled in the new stock rom update. Would be interesting in seeing quadrant scores for it vs last weeks stock rom.

I have the new radio, I just decided on a new ROM as well.

I can verify that JIT is enabled in the build.prop from the stock backup for ZVC...

I'd do that for you, but am not really into benchmarking as much as just using my phone... ;)

My phone is still in the 400s with the new VC update, stock ROM. I ran the update using the LG Updater Tool.

Though I gotta say I am a bit perplexed about exactly what is different between getting the VC update from the LG Updater or OTA.

I accepted the update, it rebooted, my custom recovery (the one here) said that the files were not signed and the update failed.

The phone rebooted, nothing was installed, and now it thinks it no longer has a system update to apply.

I'd actually like to get JIT and a new baseband (if it's better). Is there a convenient way to do that, or do I have to go back to stock and unroot first?

Got my update last night. It's nice they enabled JIT, since that was all I changed when I rooted my phone once.

I believe quadrant stills scores in the 400s because of the h.264 compression and decompression pieces. They still haven't enabled stagefright.

Linpack, however, now scores 7.xx, up from 3.xx.

That worked for me as well....nothing was updated. Now it's saying I'm up to date blah blah blah, nothing is wanting ot be installed...

mine tried no option to opt-out Failed also w/ThundeRom V1.6.2-Deluxe
checked:
wifi hotspot-still works
quadrant score still 1124
shows still running @ 748 mhz.

like this phone a lot but will be glad to switch to the thunderbolt est. Feb 24th

So if I'm planning to go back to the stock rom is it okay for me to just accept the OTA update and then do a complete restore on my phone? Or can I just do a restore and don't bother with the update until after the restore?

Don't accept the OTA update (in a situation where it will run successfully) or you won't be able to root. Also since you won't be able to root, you won't be able to revert to stock, since that procedure depends on being root.

If you want the new update and radio, you should use the LG Update Tool.
