LG Optimus S (LS670) Maintenance Release 2/7/11

Don't accept the OTA update (in a situation where it will run successfully) or you won't be able to root. Also since you won't be able to root, you won't be able to revert to stock, since that procedure depends on being root.

If you want the new update and radio, you should use the LG Update Tool.

But I don't plan to root again. I just want me phone back to default.

If your purpose is to get back to stock and have no indications you ever messed with the phone, I'd do the restore v8, apply v8->v9 update, apply v9->vc update route. Skip the appropriate step if you want to be at an earlier version than vc.

When you say Restore V8 do you mean a hard factory reset. Privacy -> Factory Data Reset? OR is this referring to a special script I can run to go back to default?

There is a thread that explains what to do
http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...45403-how-unroot-your-phone-return-stock.html

Within that thread is a nandroid dump of v8. Once you restore that, you'll have a shipping v8. Then from there you can choose which updates to apply by renaming the update files to "update.zip", placing on your SD card, booting to the recovery partition, and selecting to run the update from the recovery menu.

Follow the instructions on that thread carefully and everything should be fine.

I updated last night via lg updater on second attempt.

I am noticing that the GPS and Data are working very slow. GPS takes 10-15 seconds to get a lock and speedtest.net speeds are in the range of 0.4 -0.5 MBPS (down)

I use to get lock in few seconds and speeds were close to 1 mbps before. Is any body noticing this?

Quadrant test shows 330 :(

I am updating via LG updater. Its stuck at 36 minutes and not responding. Phone says do not disconnect. Not sure what to do.

It has 4 stages: Analysis, Download, Update and Complete.

It downloaded 94 Mbs at the download stage and is now stuck at Update stage. 94mb is to high size for an update. It having a feeling that its flashing entire rom. I just hope my data is intact.

Should I just restart the phone?

Your Quandrant score is really low. Sounds like you might have something active in the background.

GPS is always slow the first time after a reboot. If you don't reboot after that and just charge using the micro-usb cable, then it stays fast.

As to the speed, these things fluctuate often at Sprint depending on signal strength and how many people are on. In one particular location, I go from 300/100 to 1200/700 on consecutive runs. If I move to a higher point in the same building, I get consistently higher numbers, but on different days, all areas in this structure can have slow speeds.

I got this with V9 and VC.

Not saying your data speeds are unrelated to the update, but they are likely unreleated to the update.

Now since your quadrant scores are lower than expected, something might not be running right, and in that indirect way, it could be related to the update.

You might want to wipe data/cache from recovery and reinstall stuff.

I guess what I'm ultimately asking is is it necessary to go through all those steps when I'm going to hard reset anyway?

I have not rooted my phone at all, but was considering it at some point. I did accept the OTA update. Does this now mean that I will not be able to root at all using any of the methods in the Root/ROM section?

I doubt you'll be able to root until one of these coders comes up with a root for the new software update

Thanks .... but my applications are crashing as well....maps force closed...tapatalk crashed.....even browser crashed......

I am thinking its a bad flash may be?..but the phone is so sluggish that while typing this text the pressed keys remain pressed for much longer:(... it feels like i am using my wifes samsung transform

Depends what you are trying to accomplish.

A "hard reset" through ##786 and privacy->reset doesn't restore the /system partition back to original. You might for example want everything back to stock with no remnants if you were to return a phone to Sprint and you didn't want them saying you did something to your phone.

Keep in mind after you apply the VC OTA update (not recommended for others to use the OTA update), you won't be able to root again and go clean stuff up, so if that is something you want to do, make sure you do it ahead of time, and don't depend on a "hard reset" clearing everything out.

However it is up to you. If you have something that is very close to stock (or stock just rooted), you can apply the VC OTA update and have a VC that is unrootable (which you seem to be ok with) Again, personally I would use the LG Update tool, so if you change your mind later on, you still have the option to root, but I don't know your circumstances.

Yes, that is currently what it means.

The core root exploit for many root methods is the rageagainstthecage method, but since thise doesn't work, it might be a while before a new exploit is discovered. The likely faster path (in the short-term) would be if someone comes up with a way to force flash v8 (or v9) onto a VC phone.

After backing up your data with something like Titanium, I would suggest you wipe data/cache from the recovery partition/mode and allow everything to be recreated. (If you have custom recovery, do not reset from privacy->reset or ##786 or you may have troubles booting your phone)

Okay thanks. That helps. My root is stock. I guess I'll follow the instructions in the thread you pointed me to earlier to unroot. Then do a hard reset to start all over. At that point I believe I'll be as close to a virgin phone as possible.

Thanks.

I didnt back data up but I had move applications to sd card using titanuim which android "move to sd card" didnt allow me..... I reinstalled all the apps moved to sdcard..rebooted and it seems to work as expected now...

Quadrant speed is up to 462 now...

You can't re-root if you applied the OTA VC update. Also I believe you left some punctuation out of your post.
