hi i bought a LG V10 early last year from tmobile. a few months ago i installed an app called app detox to help me limit the amount of time i spent using twitter or instagram during the day. yesterday afternoon i tried opening twitter. app detox kicked in as its supposed to telling me not to use the app as it closed it. then for some reason the app opened anyway. so of course i used it. but that lasted only a few seconds before the screen froze. holding the power button on the back did nothing so i pulled the battery. it would not start up after that. panicked i tried plugging it in to two chargers to no avail. then an odd thing happened: i pulled the battery out and left it out for about 30m. when i put it back and pressed the power button it vibrated and i saw the LG logo come up. i breathed a sigh of relief and put the phone down. when i picked up a couple of minutes later to check messages, black screen again. it was dead. i went to tmo and tried using my spare battery. its still dead. so dead in fact that because tmo couldnt get me a replacement for 1-2 days that i jumped ship and went to verizon and bought a V20. questions:

is app detox the murderer?

is there any way to possibly revive this phone?

additionally, i left the batt out over night. i just put it in and still no sign of life.

thank you!!

Hi there.

The V10 is one of the devices susceptible to the LG bootlooping issue, which mainly affected the G4 but the V10 is also affected due to its similar hardware.

I suspect that your V10 fell victim to it.

looked up bootlooping...don't think that's it.

is there a way to revive it??

has anyone sent a phone to LG for repair or recovery?

thank you!

they did yes. but i could not imagine having no phone for at least 1-2 days. i have no land line so it would have meant potentially missing future work calls ($$$) not to mention no nav, no 911 in case of emergency. maybe i over reacted but the only solution i could find was going to another carrier and getting another phone. i spoke to tmo about getting a new phone there but BC my phone was DOA there weren't many options. verizon said if i get the phone to work they will buy out my remaining payments with tmo. that and the ability to wipe all the info are why i am here trying to revive it.

thank you!

Well, call me stupid, but put it in a freezer and see if it works after an hour.

It's temporary, though. Once it bootloops, it's pretty much a goner.

freezer didn't work. i dropped it at a mobile phone repair shop on melrose this afternoon will update if he revives it. thank you!

UPDATE

phone repairman says motherboard is fried. i'm sending it to LG for repair so i wont have to pay tmo the remaining 180$!

Glad you have an answer and hopefully you won't be out a phone for to long

thank you. i bounced that day from tmobile to verizon so i wouldnt be without a phone for two days. in my line of work that isnt an option. i have the V20 now!

I don't think by the OPs account that it was a bootloop but I guess putting it in the freezer is worth a shot regardless of what the problem is.

tried freezer. wasnt a bootloop. the repairman at the local phone repair shop said the motherboard was fried. if there's a way to prevent that from happening in future phones, please let me know. but i wont be installing appdetox on the new phone. sent old one to LG yesterday for repair....if they fix it verizon covers the $180 i owe tmo!

I truly doubt the app fried the board

So how are you liking the V20. Looks like a nice phone.

it is! i chose the V10 primarily for it's camera and the V20 seems just as good. also this phone is definitely fast. pages load in an instant. it's only a week old so i'm getting sporadic app crashes but i assume that will settle with enough use and restarts. my only complaint so far would be sound volume...it seems low to me.

Hi,i bought my v10 from a individual and less than 2 weeks it did the boot loop freeze. I finally emailed LG support and they helped me do the repair ticket even tho I had no receipt I sent it off last Wednesday and I received it today, exactly one week later. They replaced the board and did not charge me a penny. Phone is like a brand new one, just hope it stays this way!!!!

mine was also repaired by LG free of charge (17 mos old but they said still in warranty). i already bought the V20 but at least now verizon will take care of the $200 i owe tmobile!
