LG V20 Battery Drain after Android – Nougat Upgrade

I had the same problem. when you did the reset, did you backup your apps and reinstall them that way? if so, install fresh apps. that helped mine

I have had my LG V20 for one year with wonderful battery life, but ever since I've upgraded to the latest Nougat, I have been experiencing unbelievable drainage on my battery. I've wipe the cache partition, removed games I use to play got rid of the Launcher I was using and went to the phones default. Yes I get on Facebook, dating apps and message, but I did this before the update. I have purchased a LG V20 battery thinking that was the problem. Nope it hasn't. I know other people experiencing the same problem on their type of phone. Today at 7:30am I unplugged the phone, went to work. I got on FB/POF did some messaging and one phone call. At 1pm my phone reached 15% battery life. Is there any solution to this problem, I don't want to live by a electrical socket till the next release of a new phone with great battery life.

1. Turn OFF "OK GOOGLE" detection. This was the culprit of why my battery was weaker than usual. Go to Google Voice assistant settings and turn that off.

2: Try installing Greenify and hibernate apps you don't use. Apps will run in the background 24/7 trying to push updates. Greenify will shut them down until you open it again. Do not use "auto" hibernation, only manually.

3. Clear your cache in smart cleaning settings.

4. Wait at least a month before the Android system can recognize your usage habits. For some reason, my battery life always improves after a month after I do a factory reset or set up a new phone, seems like Android optimizes everything.

5. If you want to go the extra mile, install the ForceDoze app. It greatly improves standby time by enabling doze mode immediately instead of after 30 minutes.

My V20 gets on average 4 hours SOT or pretty much all day usage, sometimes 5.5 hours SOT.

Experiencing the exact same battery drain issue, 9-11 hours prior to the upgrade, now I'm very lucky to get 5 hours. yes, the caches have been cleared and the phone has had time to settle.

Same here. Charging takes forever also.

My v20 with everything enabled gives an SOT OF 4.3 Hrs!
That's a lot of option disabling you are talking about.

i received a system update last week from verizon. my battery lasts half as long now. should i panic?

Nougat is a little weird. From my experience from using the V20, every time I factory reset my phone or update the OS, the battery drains fast the first few weeks. After one month, the battery becomes more efficient and lasts a long time. Possibly Nougat is learning your habits and adjusts later on. Maybe give it one month. Also try installing Greenify and ForceDoze. My V20 has the most reliable battery I've ever owned for a smartphone.

Well, now I'm in this fix. Battery is draining remarkably fast. Even when I'm not using the phone, I lose an unusual amount just from background services.

In looking at the battery monitor built into Settings, AVG is always using the most, but I'm not sure a differential of 7% to 4% for the next is such a big deal. I also have Malware bytes installed, btw, but there seems to be no conflict.

I can't find any objective evidence as to why there is a fast drain, but nonetheless, the last couple of weeks I only seem to get about half as much time. I don't want to use a battery power saver--they tend to turn off things i want like weather widgets, gps, etc.

Any thoughts?

I advise people not to use LG version phone as it is fake phone the battery life is just only for a maximum of 5 month , then the battery start to drain even if your phone is idel , i wonder how i tried to unistall all the app , but this is very poor mechanizem the factory used to indirectly insist people to upgrade their phone but rather they will change to use other brand , And it is shame on them atleast not to wait for two year

Load Accubattery and see what's going on with your battery's capacity. The claimed capacity is 3200mah, but the "real" nominal capacity is actually 3050ish and it's usually off a bit on the low side. So if it comes up with 2800-2900, you're ok on the battery ITSELF.

You'll discover via this process that LG severely throttles charge rate if the screen is on or if the phone gets warm (over 90F or thereabouts.) This is actually a good thing for battery life, although it'll surprise if you're not expecting it. If you want fast charging turn the screen off.

Then the question becomes what is killing you, and for that you need to find the apps that are holding wakelocks. I've not had trouble but I don't use Facesucker (which is known to often have this problem) nor dating apps (ditto.) Be aware that a fair number of apps will do evil things like hit high-res position on a frequent basis (which will kill your battery life as it turns on the GPS, which is a power-hungry thing) and other similar nasties -- and it can get fun to figure out which app it is.
