It's either going to be modular or have a removable back. From those renders, there's no micro SD slot. I don't think LG would be stupid enough to take away both a removable battery and expandable memory.

Does it need be a separate slot or can it be integrated into the SIM tray like most modern smartphones?

From those renders I don't see a SIM tray either. Sure, it could be combined into one with a Micro SD but I don't see anywhere on the renders where that slot would be.....unless I'm missing something or those renders aren't accurate.
If the back is removable everything could be there

well it doesn't look modular to me so i guess removable back? but i can't see clearly the side buttons to check if they're attached to the front or not but if they're not i don't see how would that be a removable back that's if those renders are accurate at all anyway what do you guys think about that removable metal back? too sharp or too thick?primer or real metal? i have no idea.
Could be. But narrow side edges like those on a removable back could cause problems similar to the gaps and misalignments from the G5's friends. The silicone slab approach of the V10 would've been a lot less trouble. The red line indicates where the back would detach from the phone.

The back cannot be detachable if the FPS resides on the back. Otherwise, how do you really want the FPS to work? So with that, I've kind of ruled out detachable battery covers altogether (except its done like the G5 tbh)
Three other pieces of information given have provided us with clues about how the phone will work. The first being that the phone will include an “Extra battery and Enhanced Hand Grip” LG is known for being one of the last smartphone makers to include removable batteries, so an extra battery is no surprise here. The “Enhanced Hand Grip” is a bit curious. While recent renders of the LG V20 show it looking a lot like a LG G5, the V10 before it was known for its rubbery grippy back plate. The enhanced grip could refer to either a case, or a module attachment, assuming the V20 will take after the G5’s modularity.
The second states that the phone could include a “Memory Module Attachment”. This description gives a some validity to the speculation that the V20 will take after the G5’s attempt at modularity. The “Memory” part of the name brings up a few questions, being that memory can refer to two things on a smartphone; RAM, and Storage. The name could refer to the RAM Memory, which could add a performance boost to the phone for those who feel like they would need it, however this seems unlikely. While LG has yet to remove MicroSD expansion from any of their phones, it seems more plausible that it refers to the Storage Memory available. Finally the third tells us that T-mobile will bundle “(T-mobile exclusive) Year of Hulu + 3 Vudu rentals”.
I'm hoping that the modules are at least much better implemented this time around compared to the G5, if that turns out to be true.
What LG needs for this to be successful is third-party support.
For the G5, there's almost none. Only B&O jumped on, but as a branding partner. LG needs to bring more third-parties on board with making these modules.
That's another area where Lenovo has jumped ahead.
